I think this storyline has been superbly done. It's had a long build up because Corrie go for realism, not a situation that is done and dusted in 25 minutes.
The character of Shelley is a strong,independant, confident woman and the impact of a dominator such as Charlie would certainly have the effect that has been portrayed.
Working in an environment that deals with the issue of DV and mental illenss on a day to day basis, I would say this storyline deserves awards for it gritty realism and the fact that it's not afraid to show an abusive relationship for what it is, right down to the bare bones.

I think the problem with this storyline is the fact that its so accurate to certain situations in real life. Its so accurate that its too much like real life situations and bores people.
Believe me in life there are plenty of people like Shelly.I've seen it in my family for a start. Hopefully even though its not particularly interestuing at the mo it'll give women out there in a similar prodicerment the strength to fight back and get help.
Well I think the boring side will be tossed to one side when we see Shelly finally fight and stand up for herself :D
