Emmerdale's Lawrence White will be rejected by his partner Bernice Blackstock next week after he confesses to the shooting of Robert Sugden.
A major new storyline for the ITV soap will see Robert (Ryan Hawley) gunned down in the village by a mystery assailant, leaving everyone to wonder who the ruthless culprit was.

Robert collapses to the floor with a gunshot wound
Lawrence's daughter Chrissie will quickly become the prime suspect in the case thanks to a false statement that Eric Pollard has given to implicate her. In response, Lawrence jumps straight to her defence by claiming that the shooter was actually him.
Lawrence's apparent confession lands him in a prison cell and doesn't go down too well with Bernice (Samantha Giles), who hands his engagement ring back just days after agreeing to marry him.
Teasing the drama ahead, John Bowe - who plays Lawrence - commented: "Lawrence is devastated when Bernice hands the ring back. She's the one good thing to come into his life through his resettlement in the village and all of the angst and horror that's happened to the family throughout the year.
"Lawrence has met someone who reminds him of his wife and gives him the same feelings. Bernice is a great companion and great fun to be with. She makes him laugh and makes him feel good inside. Now that's being ruined."

Bernice and Chrissie visit Lawrence
Expressing hope that the pair can work it out, Bowe continued: "Samantha is the best person to work with. If there's a possibility where you're going to be thrust into working closely with someone - possibly for some years ahead - I couldn't have wished for it to be anybody other than Samantha.
"I have total respect for her ability as an actress and her skill in comedy. What's great about this coupling is that Sam's going to get the opportunity to play tragedy, and I'm going to get the opportunity to play more comedy. There's some stuff that's in the can already that I think the viewers are going to love."
While it seems that Lawrence is only confessing to the shooting to save Chrissie, he remains on the suspect list and could still be the real culprit.
Asked whether he thinks Lawrence is really capable of attempted murder, Bowe replied: "Yes I do - absolutely. Especially after what he went through in his early life, way back in the 60s, which is shortly to be revealed on screen. People will find out soon that he has a very thin skin and it won't take much to pierce it. He could lose it completely.
"He also definitely thinks that Robert had it coming. I love Ryan Hawley dearly - we joined the show roughly at the same time. I think he's a damned fine actor too.
"But I do worry about how he can ever possibly be redeemed for some of the horrors that he has performed, both on my family and the village! He deserves the shooting just for the stuff that he's done to Lawrence! Let's hope the writers can find a redeeming quality, otherwise Ryan's in a cul-de-sac at the moment!"

Is the show giving too much away? I agree with John Bowe how can the writers redeem Robert?
Lawrence should be the one to shoot Robert, says Emmerdale actor John Bowe
"Now it's time for the latent fury of Lawrence to awaken and deal with the weasel that is Robert"

Emmerdale star John Bowe says that he hopes his character Lawrence White will be the one to wreak revenge on Robert Sugden by shooting him.
"Lawrence's decency and ability to forgive has made him look gullible at times over the past year or so," says the actor. "Now it's time for the latent fury of Lawrence to awaken and deal with the weasel that is Robert - to protect his beloved daughter Chrissie, his whole family, his business and his honour."
Businessman Lawrence has become increasingly infuriated by Robert, ever since it was revealed that he'd been having an illicit affair with Aaron.
But the final straw comes when Robert admits to having set Lawrence up with rent boy Connor. Will this be enough to make Lawrence want to pull the trigger?
"Lawrence wants to shoot Robert because he has ruined his daughter's life, interfered in his grandson's life and tormented him for too long. For over a year in fact. Since the family moved to Emmerdale.
"For many years Lawerence had accelerated Robert’s advance within his company, partly because he regarded him as the son he never had and partly because he reminded him of his younger self, which stimulated his affection for him.
"But then he started trampling all over his family and gorging himself on his perverted needs. Robert is a manipulator. He's power mad, selfish - a taker not a giver!"
And is Bowe looking forward to finding out the identity of the mystery assailant? "Bring on the reveal. Whoever has done the deed gets my support and congratulations. Maybe that's me!"

Only those actors involved in the crucial scenes usually have any knowledge about the setting and action on Emmerdale. The other actors are usually kept in the dark on a 'no need to know' basis. So, this interview from John Bowe suggests that Lawrence's script doesn't include content about the revealing of the 'mystery assailant'. However, maybe he gave the gun and bracelet from Home Farm safe to someone to carry out the shooting for him later?
Lawrence is gay he and Bernice have not had sex. I find this bizarre they went to Australia no sex they get engaged still no sex. Lawrence is gay I do not believe he is bisexual.
I am confused by this whole Lawrence thing. Is he gay and using Bernice as a cover? He won't even kiss her. Has all the stuff that has happened recently maybe reignited his feelings for men, rather than trying to hide them?
I know it's not real, but it is sad to think in real life, there will be people his age who are gay but can't be themselves due to growing up in a time were it was despised.
It was despised and an imprisonable offence.
If story does nothing else -I hope it makes
people who have never talked to men of
Lawrences age **-realise what it was like to be gay
with no real freedom to.say so.And the threat
of prison in the background.
Re Lawrence -He was gay as a young man
and I think thats his strongest drive and why
he became involved with Ednas husband.
He did marry and have a family but I think
that was for "respectability".Some gay men
did that . Generally there was less sex before
marriage in those days -so it was less likely
that the bride would realise the grooms
true sexuality til later. If they picked a naive
girl or a woman to whom such a relationship
was accepttable.
When people get older -feelings theyve hidden
for years may surface.
**p.s.- homosexuality was "legalised " in England
in 1967 but not in Scotland & NI til 1980s.
There are a lot of gay men aged mid 60s and
above.who lived through those times who are
still living. My info/impressions has been gained
a couple of decades later from older male
colleagues who would somtimes say how it was
and how if felt before legalisation.
