Breakdancing Britain's Got Talent pensioner Fred Bowers is facing a benefits fraud probe after it emerged that he has been claiming disability payments for his leg.
The 73-year-old, who made it through to the semi-final on Saturday with his energetic routine, has been receiving £70 per week and a free car after telling medical staff that he had a "gammy left leg", according to The Sun.
A spokesperson from the Department for Work and Pensions confirmed that they were already investigating the case after being alerted by local benefits staff. "Although the Department of Work and Pensions does not comment on individual cases we do investigate and take seriously all accusations of fraudulent benefit claims," they said in a statement.
Bowers claimed that his disability doesn't affect his ability to perform and revealed that he would cease claiming the Disability Living Allowance as well as hand back his Motability car once he earned money from his dancing.
"My left leg is out of order but it doesn't stop me dancing. I mostly stand still during the dancing and I don’t chase around the stage," he told the newspaper.
"It's mostly my back, neck and head that I move so I don't see what the problem is because it is my leg that's bad. I'm not earning a penny through my dancing yet so I don't see the problem until I start earning.
"I'm likely to make a lot of money through my dancing and when I do I’ll get in touch with Motability and the payments will stop. Somebody is jealous, that’s all - and I suppose I'm going to get a few more critics. But surely I'm allowed to dance. People on Motability play sport and football and everything."
Bowers won support from all three judges after performing his act on Saturday night. Simon Cowell later exclaimed: "This is why I love doing this show - because of people like you, Fred."
I know he got through to the semi finals but realistically speaking, he is not going to go any further, he was rubbish really, it is only because of his age that he got through. I don't think he will make a lot of money but he might have to pay back his benefits and give back his car.
I think Susan Boyle is playing up more the cameras now but she did deserve her final place as she was best last night by far.
Natalie Okri was terrible last night i'm glad Diversity got through.
Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has said that she doesn't think contestant Susan Boyle will last.
The Scottish singer is currently the odds-on favourite to win the talent series, however Holden has dismissed suggestions that the final is already decided.
"She'll be an instant international superstar - but I don't think she'll have longevity...She could nail it or kill it on the night. She might not be as good as she was on that first night and people put that performance on a pedestal," she told the News Of The World.
"I think it can go either way. We've built her up and the public could go, 'She's too big for her boots, she's too cocky'. She isn't. But we don't like too much success. It's a shame."
Holden also criticised pizza delivery man Jamie Pugh for feigning emotion at his first audition.
"He got on my t*ts. I didn't think he was genuine. I didn't believe his emotion and I hated his voice. He sounded like a car starting," she said.
 That was not the impression I had on the night :nono:
Stavros Flately  have been my fav act by far this year and would love to see them win but by reading Perdita's spoiler it wont happen :(
I dont think Susan needs to win at all but she will
I do worry about the pressure on Susan Boyle.
This is a vulnerable woman, she is educationally subnormal - a bit simple if you like - and she could really be exploited by this show.
I hope that they have people who are looking out for Susan's interests and not just for the interests of the TV company - but I doubt it.
I was really sad to see that wee lassie who was third last night having to wonder off the stage herself in tears - does this show really care less about the contestants?
I would like to think that she had somebody look after her once she got off stage
PIERS Morgan said he felt awful when he saw BGT schoolgirl Natalie Okri cry on stage after being given the axe - but was much relieved when he saw her being hugged by her mum.
The judge, who has three sons, said he felt better when he saw the 10-year-old being comforted backstage by her mum after losing out in the sing-off to dancing troupe Diversity.
Piers said on his blog: "I'd just like to say a special word about poor young Natalie, who was distraught at missing out on her final place.
"I was watching as she walked off the stage at the end crying, and thinking, like everyone, 'I hope her mum's here somewhere.'
"Well, she was, waiting at the bottom of the stage steps, to take her into her arms and console her. And by the time she studio lights went up after the show ended, Natalie was smiling."

I hope that Susan Boyle doesn't win BGT because I don't think she's the most talented act, and I am tired of all the hype around her. IMO she was not the most talented act last night - Diversity was. IMO her voice was shaky to begin with, but got better towards the end of the song. Why on earth did the judges put Nick Hell through to the live shows? They could have put through that little boy on the drums :searchme: I felt sorry for Natalie, IMO her song was okay, it was the backing singers that killed it!
Apparently Susan Boyle does have learning difficulties. I thought she was nervous last night, which is perfectly understandable. The world expects so much from her, but I genuinely think she doesn't have the faintest clue how much of an effect and buzz she has created all over Britain and all over the world.
I'm really glad she got through though. Diversity were also fantastic and I'm glad they got to the final instead of Natalie. I felt sorry for Natalie, but I didn't think she was as good as she was in her audition and Diversity performed better than her.
