You lucky lucky woman....
Next time.. kidnap him.... don't care how many other women are around.. they are all having the same thoughts..
I had a fabulous day yesterday. But first a bit of background.
I have been, ever since I can remember, a devoted Gilbert & Sullivan fan. My dad was fanatic about them and right from when I was born the only records I can remember being played in the house were Gilbert & Sullivan operas. I first went to see the D'Oyly Carte performing G&S live in the theatre at the age of 4 and from then on I became as fanatic as my dad. Culminating I suppose in the early 1970s when I used to go and see as many operas as I could during the D'Oyly Carte's London season. One year, I can't quite remember which, but some time between 1971 and 1974 I went to see at least one performance of every opera they performed, that was 11 in all. Afterwards I wrote to D'Oyly Carte with a critique of each performance. Looking back on it it must have seemed a bit pretentious to the company for a 23 or 4 year old (or thereabouts) to write with a criticism of their performance. Anyway, the only thing I can now remember about my letter was that I finished it by saying something to the effect that I thought I was falling in love with Pamela Field, who was the principal soprano and stunningly attractive. By the mid-70s however my devotion took a back seat as family life got in the way though i still managed to get along occasionally until sadly the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company folded in 1982.
Anyway, fast forward to yesterday. My cousin, who is a member of the Gilbert & Sullivan Society, invited me along to one of their meetings which was supposed to be a tribute to Patricia Leonard, Sir Charles MacKerras and John Fryatt, all of whom had died in the last year or so and had been involved with G&S and the D'Oyly Carte in one way or another. What I was not expecting to see until I arrived was a number of the principal artistes from the 1960s and 70s who I had only ever seen on the stage before, 40 or 50 years ago. I won't go into who was there as the names probably won't mean much to anyone else reading this but one of the people there yesterday shone out. It was none other than Pamela Field herself. She must now be in her 60s but still looked as fabulous as ever. During the interval I spoke to her and told her my story about the letter. And she gave me a big hug.
Who would have thought, back in the 1970s, that 40 years on this object of my youthful love and admiration from afar would give me a hug...
What a day!!!
And the moral to that story is dreams can come true, even if you have to wait a while :D
Well done, parkerman :cheer:
And here she is: http://www.wix.com/pamelafield/pamelafield#!gallery:heart:
Oh that is so fabulous Parkerman. What a surprise I'm so glad you had a wonderful day.
I am loving my new job.. haven't actually done anything I was hired for yet but the days are flying and my head is so full of info I think it will explode and I have to do it all in German!!!
Driving going great too.. think I will be taken my test at end of month and my lovely instructor gave me 2 free hours driving (no idea why, think he is just a nice guy).. happy days :D
Glad your enjoying your new job. Mines going well just glad to be in work more than anything.
Not been on here in a while.Had a heavy night a few weeks back and mannaged to knock myself out so ive had concussion for two weeks. its finally shifted and im back to normal but its been horrible.

So proud of you Siobhan for doing it all in German, hope it's going well! Also glad the driving's going well :)
Awful day... awful week!!! Roll on thr bank holiday!!
Nightmare with the driving.. was suppose to do my theory test on Wednesday.. plucked up courage to ask my new boss for 2 hours off and head to the center only to realise my name is not there!!! Was then asked by my instructor if I had sent letters to the center, which i hadn't.. What he had failed to tell me is that before I can sit the theory test I had to go to my local registration office with a passport photo, first aid cert and eye test and they book it for me.. so now I have to wait another 2 - 3 weeks before I can do theory test which probably means another month before I can take driving test.. so mad!!!
Bloody red tape Shiv, poor you! How furstrating.
This sunshine has been amazing over the last few days. Hope ye have all been enjoying it.
Exams over :D Last one went pretty awfully and my excema had to choose the day before to flare up. Off to the doctors tomorrow as I nearly made it bleed yesterday.
Weather was lovely, got a bit of a tan now :D Also finished uni in the time since I last posted, so am now chilling :)
Happy Jubilee Weekend!
We had Whit Friday Marches on friday night. And my band did brilliant!! lots of first places in our section which means lots of prize money which is always good! Hard work payed off!
Man I have been so busy at work I haven't had time to come on SB. Really need to priorities my workload :D Anyway not much been happening. News from work is that the college I work for is merging with two other colleges in the city in October. There has been a voluntary severance package offered to all staff over the three college to cut staff. My college is to loose 69 members of staff before the end of August. I spent most of last Thursday in tears as I know a lot of them who are leaving. My AP (Associate Principal is leaving and I am gutted as she has been a tower of support to me. I was sending her an email on Thursday afternoon to tell her how shocked and devastated I was and I had to stop every couple of sentences so I could have a bubble. (What a Sap). Now we're all in a panic about the outbreak of legionnaires disease I live near were they think the source is coming from and it's all everyone is talking about.
Really great night.. went to a pub to watch the match and have to say the atomsphere was brilliant.. nice to be in a place where a team is winning!!
I haven't been on here for ageeee's! Hi guys, that isif you remember me? All I'm doing now is just spending time with Aarron and trying to get a job, applied for college for Feb to do Hairdressing so hoping something comes of that! I have also realised that I'll have been on here for 7 years in November, that's a scary thought cause I'm 21 In september. Hopefully around here a lot more often though! :)
I have a job! What a year I'm having
Yeah, I'm going to be training to be a teacher :) so I'll get paid whilst I train.
I've been lucky really, got the after a week and half of being back home from uni
Well done Abbie - so pleased for you.
Hey Tannie welcome back hope everything is good with you. Abbie well done on the job. Is that you finished Uni now, what happened on you wanting to be a vet or zoologist. I'm still in the same job but big changes happening over the next two years. Nothing new to tell only I'm off to Gran Canaria in three weeks.
Yep Uni finished.
Although my degree was in animal behaviour I could never be a vet, requires a different degree and a lot more study. I do have interest in Zoos but more and more as I looked at things I was becoming more interest in positions of education officers in zoos or conservation and my job is for 2 years and the PGCE may give me more options
I had a fabulous (note the 60s word!) night at the West Cliff Theatre, Clacton, last night with Herman's Hermits. Good house, excellent atmosphere and a great show. Got us old rockers going that's for sure! Even better, they're coming back on 3 March next year when they will be on the same bill as The Tremeloes, The Ivy League and Union Gap. Should be a great night.

Sorry, my posting of pardon was meant to be a joke because your post was duplicated, so I was going to quote your first post and say, Pardon? and then quote the duplicate and say, "Ah, that's better", but, for some reason, my Pardon comment also got duplicated so I gave up......
OK, I'll just get my coat....
