Spice Girls cut reunion tour short
The Spice Girls have announced that they are cutting short their reunion tour.
Despite promising global gigs when they revealed their tour plans in June last year, the girls have now cancelled planned concerts in Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina. The last gig will now take place on February 26 in Toronto.
In a statement, the group explained: "Really sorry if we didn't get to see you this time round. We all have other commitments in our lives. But who knows what will happen? We've had an amazing time."
One report suggests that Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell wanted to complete the tour, but Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm said that they did not want to continue.
An insider told The Mirror: "Mel B wasn't having any of it. She misses her husband and children and said she couldn't go on. She's also been flooded with US offers after her success on Dancing with the Stars.
"Mel C agreed it was time to call it off. She was the least excited about the tour. She also feared it might jeopardise her solo career (what solo career?). The others wanted to go on, but couldn't persuade the Mels. Without them, there was no point."
Eva Mendes checks into rehab
Eva Mendes has checked into a rehabilitation clinic in Utah.
The actress, who is best known for her roles in 2 Fast 2 Furious and Hitch, has been receiving treatment at the Cirque Lodge clinic for several weeks.
A statement released by Mendes' representative explained: "Eva has been working hard for the past year and made a positive decision to take some much-needed time off to proactively attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support.
"Out of respect for Eva's privacy, we do not wish to discuss further details."
The statement was released following reports that Mendes had decided to seek help for a substance abuse problem.
Jennifer Lopez's dad confirms twins rumour
Jennifer Lopez's dad has confirmed rumours that the singer is expecting twins.
Lopez announced in November that she was pregnant with husband Marc Anthony following weeks of speculation. She was reported to be carrying twins after ordering matching baby supplies for a boy and girl.
Her father David told Latino show Escándalo TV that the rumours were true, saying: "Yes, twins. The thing is in my family, my sister also had twins, so it's a hereditary thing. I'm very proud. Jennifer has yearned to be a mother for many years."
He added that he had already bought presents for the new arrivals, saying: "In Puerto Rico it's custom to buy an azabache [black stone] bracelet for babies to protect them from the evil eye. It's part of our culture."
Beckhams 'plan to adopt African girl'
David and Victoria Beckham are rumoured to be planning to adopt an African orphan following David's recent visit to Sierra Leone.
The couple are said to have been considering the idea for a while, but the footballer has become increasingly keen after visiting the poverty-stricken country two weeks ago.
He spent time at a health clinic, witnessed a birth and joined workers vaccinating children in the community during a four-day trip in his capacity as Goodwill Ambassador for the UN’s UNICEF Children’s Charity.
He said at the time: "I was close to tears. I had to step back and take a deep breath. I'm a very emotional person and I'm even more emotional now I'm a parent."
According to Grazia, the pair have spoken to friend Tom Cruise about his experience of adopting two children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
A friend is quoted as saying: "Adoption is something David has been talking about for some time. Tom has talked to David about how adoption changed him and how he’s been able to change the lives of two amazing children.
“If there is one subject that can move him to tears, it’s the thought of being unloved, uncared for and with no hope or future.”
The source added: "It’s clear they both think adoption is great.”
However, a spokesperson for the Beckhams dismissed the claims, saying: "They both have said that they admire people who go through the adoption process, their focus is raising their own three boys."
Ledger's family prepares for funeral
Heath Ledger's family has flown back to Australia to prepare for the late actor's funeral.
Dad Kim, mum Sally and sister Kate were escorted from the plane by private security guards and police when they arrived in Perth.
It is not known where the ceremony will be held, but it is thought he will be buried alongside two of his grandparents in a family plot.
Meanwhile, the isolated city of Perth is mourning the loss of one of its greatest sources of pride.
Shannon Harvey, the film critic at the local Sunday Times newspaper, told the Associated Press: "It's probably the biggest news we've had in Perth in a long time.
"He's probably the highest-profile star who's ever come out of [here] and probably our greatest success story."
The Brokeback Mountain star died in his Manhattan apartment on January 22. The cause of death will not be determined until toxicology tests are completed later this week.
Kirstie Allsopp expecting second child
TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp is pregnant with her second child.
The 36-year-old, who hosts Channel 4's Location, Location, Location, is expecting a baby with property tycoon Ben Andersen.
She told the Daily Mail: "We're thrilled to bits. The baby is due in August - and I'll bet it's another son - which means we will have the exact gap we wanted between the two.
"The only downside is that I have been laid low by morning sickness. In fact, I'm going to devote time during my pregnancy to researching it and why I feel so dreadful - after all, it's not an illness."
The couple have been dating for four years and have 18-month-old son Bay. Anderson also has two sons from a previous marriage.
However, Allsopp insisted that there were no plans to tie the knot, saying: "Ben and I are committed to each other and I have a big sparkly ring but we are not planning to get married."
