A question..
For AS levels you pick 4 subjects right..
For A levels can you pick 5?
Or does this depend on your 6th form/college?
Thanks :)
I think you can pick 5, I know you can where I am :)
Where I go we choose four AS subjects the carry 3 on to A2. We also have the option of doing a fith AS alongside the A2 but its not recommended.
Thats for almost everybody but the head of 6th will make some allowances. I did three ASs. My friend did four ASs and did badly in two of them so she's now doing two A2 and two AS. The ASs will give her the same UCAS points as an A2.
I think my school will only allow us to do 4 AS..
And it must be 3A but I got confused and thought it was the other way around.. Thanks!
Yeah, my school is 4 AS's and 3 A2's, although we are forced to take a general studies AS in our A2 year.
I think most schools only allow 4 AS's and 3 A2's, while there's a lot more freedom at college than in Sixth Form, according to my tutor.
yeh thats generally the case but it depends on the school. while most think you should do 4AS and then drop a subject for alevel, some (like my sis old school) make you carry on all 4 subjects, while others (like the school i did performing arts at) have the majority of pupils doing 3AS and then 2/3 alevel. but as i said it depends on the school. your best bet is asking your school about it cos obviously they will know exactly how it works at your school, youll prob have a sixth form information evening about it soon, when i was looking the schools in my area had them in about jan/feb time. also most schools make it compulsory to do general studies/critical thinking/key skills at least for your first year
We have to hand our applications in next week, and then have an interview in the spring time. Is there anything in your prospectus that might tell you how it works at your school Spicy, because that's where most information was that I have. The evening we had in November was to look at subjects and just general things about the AS, A2, UCAS points etc.
You can't do more A2s than AS. You pick 3/4/5 AS Levels, depending on your school policy, and then drop 1 after AS, and continue with the rest in year 13.
I did English Literature, Politics, ICT and Geography AS Levels last year. Then i cashed in Geography, and am continuing with the rest. So at the end of the year, i will have 3 A2s and 1 AS.
To be honest, you should do 4 AS levels, and 3 A Levels, in my experience. Good unis want 3 full A Levels, so doing another AS means you have the leniancy to drop one of them, if you hate it. The difference between GCSE and A Level is huge, so subjects you are good at now you might find very hard at A level, so its good to have the option of dropping one.
I think it depends on the college but where i went there was a system called a G Score which is a number got from all you GCSE grades, each greade wasth a number and the add them all up and divide by how many you took so my G Score was 5 . 8 round about a B on average. At my college this determined how many A Levels you took. I did 4 dropped one and ended up with 4 A2 and 1 AS. If you are of certain intelligence then they may wish you to take up 5 AS in the first year and then 4 A2 in the second it all depends.
