It was the back of Weatherfield Precinct (audio description). My first thought when I saw Maria there. My answer, was that they could not afford an extra to play a random passer-by to find Craig, as surely would have happened in real life. But that would have denied us Maria's scenes of distress. That was a terrible fight scene. Why would Kit go to Mick alone, where were the armed police officers. Mick did not have a gun, so why did Kit not take an extendable baton, a pepper spray or a tazer, or preferably all three.

That is correct. At the very least the "family" would have had a visit from a very senior officer (not a D/S) and also assistance from their local Welfare Officer.
