EastEnders is waving goodbye to Roxy Mitchell after almost a decade of drama, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

EastEnders is waving goodbye to Roxy Mitchell after almost a decade of drama, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.
Rita Simons will be bowing out from the role after nine years in Walford, but fans should brace themselves for some huge scenes to come as she won't be going quietly.
An EastEnders spokesperson told Digital Spy: "We can confirm that Rita Simons will be leaving EastEnders.
"Having joined the show in 2007, Rita immediately won the hearts of the audience in the role of Roxy Mitchell and between her and Samantha Womack they created one of the most iconic duos EastEnders has ever seen.
"Alongside Samantha, Rita was recently offered to take part in the same big storyline that will see the Mitchell sisters depart Walford, but we will not be releasing any further details at this time. We wish Rita all the best for the future."
It's thought that EastEnders' new executive producer Sean O'Connor has come up with an unforgettable final storyline for Roxy and Ronnie, with some big twists and turns to come over the next few months.
An EastEnders insider told Digital Spy: "Rita and Samantha created the iconic Mitchell sisters and with their undeniable chemistry, they immediately created a double act that the viewers fell in love with.
"But when they all sat down to work out where to take them, they all felt it was the right time to rest them. When you look back over nearly a decade and realise what they have been through, it seems that most avenues have been exhausted.
"So when Sean proposed his idea to them, Rita jumped at the opportunity to do the storyline. She even stated that the sisters should go out the same way they arrived - together.
"Bosses desperately wanted to keep the news of their departures a secret, but once the news about Samantha leaked out, it was only a matter of time before people worked out Rita would be going too.
"It's a shame as it would have been a great surprise for the audience but there are still lots of twists to come before they leave our screens."
Roxy first arrived in July 2007 and has featured in a number of memorable storylines over the years.
As well as the natural drama that comes with being a Mitchell, Roxy's own love life has always been a big talking point during her time on the Square.
Roxy's had relationships with Sean Slater, Alfie Moon and Aleks Shirovs over the years and also caused a stir by sleeping with two of her sister's partners - Jack Branning and Charlie Cotton.
More recently, Rita has also won praise for a sensitive portrayal of Roxy's attempted rape storyline, which saw her attacked by Dean Wicks. This story will reach its conclusion this week when Dean's verdict is revealed.

I wonder will she leave with Ronnie
I like the Mitchell sisters but agree it's time for them to go now. Their exit storyline sounds intriguing and could tempt me back to EE.
Must be getting close to Max's full return , Parkerman. In which event Ian and Jane may be wishing they had been in custody.
Could be worth starting viewing again. ( keep a spare pair of boots by the TV screen just in case ). Also you might see Winston and Carmel having a few words.:)
I am sure parkerman will start watching this again as soon as Max Branning is in the spoilers :D
now dean off innocent, he could be back for the mitchell girls exit
EastEnders used to be my favorite soap, but with all of my favorite characters getting the axe, I just can't be bothered anymore. Ronnie, Roxy, Paul.. they were all my favorites, they are all leaving or have already left. It's just really sad. And now Buster is leaving too. EastEnders is imo a character driven soap. The characters, with their characterization and character development are all more important than the storylines. The Mitchells are an important, legacy family. Now they've gotten rid of half of that family, don't even get me started on the Carter family, which will have no characters left on screen except Mick and Johnny. I just highly disagree with this new producers' priorities. What he's doing to the Mitchell family amongst other things is unforgivable.
Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell are apparently going to have an explosive end to their time on EastEnders.
The Sun reports that Ronnie (Samantha Womack) and Roxy (Rita Simons) are set to be killed off during a shocking New Year's Eve special.
"We know how much our audience hate to have any future storylines spoilt so we will not comment on speculative stories," an EastEnders spokesperson told Digital Spy.
It's said that the cast is outraged about the twist as they were not "consulted" over it. However, the EastEnders cast are never consulted over other characters' stories.
"At no point have we received any concerns from cast about any of our future storylines," a spokesperson added.
Digital Spy exclusively revealed back in August that Simons was bowing out as Roxy at the same time as her sister Ronnie. It was thought that new executive producer Sean O'Connor had come up with an unforgettable final storyline for the Mitchell siblings.
Whether it's an explosive one that closes the door on them ever returning to Walford remains to be seen, but we can't wait to find out.

I did wonder if they would kill one or both off. Tho as it was in the sun, ill take it with a pinch of salt.
It'll be a damp squib if anything else is what they're setting the standards by.
Matthew's father returns to take his son while Roxy kills Ronnie and then herself, I have seen some suggestions of a suicide death for one of them, of course all pure speculation at this stage
I assume the big Christmas storylines are being filmed soon
EastEnders bosses are filming multiple exits for Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell in a fierce bid to combat storyline leaks, Digital Spy can confirm.
The popular Mitchell sisters are bowing out of the show in an explosive exit plot, which is expected to air around the New Year period. But they may not be the only ones going.
Speculation over Ronnie and Roxy's exits has been building for weeks now. Last month, one tabloid report suggested that they could be killed off in a very memorable final storyline, although this wasn't confirmed by the producer's.
Now another report in The Sun has claimed that there'll be a "gruesome" ending for the pair involving watery deaths in a swimming pool. But could that just be one possibility?
An EastEnders spokesperson told Digital Spy: "We know how much our audience hate to have future storylines spoilt, so we do not comment on speculative stories.
"However, knowing there's huge excitement about the departure of the iconic Mitchell sisters, to keep this plot under wraps we are filming various different endings.
"We want this to be one of those moments that the audience only get to see when they switch on. Even the cast do not know exactly which ending will be broadcast.
An EastEnders insider also told Digital Spy: "It's a terrible shame that someone chooses to leak our storylines - it only ruins the fun for everyone. You wouldn't read the last page of a book before you start reading it, so why would you want to know the ending of a story before it begins?
"Bosses take leaks extremely seriously and anyone found to be doing it risks losing their job. They have some classic EastEnders moments coming up that they really want the audience to see for themselves without reading about it first, so they are taking extra precautions around this massive story.
"The departure of Ronnie and Roxy has so much speculation around it already that bosses are keeping everything under wraps. There are even rumours that there is so much secrecy, there could be more shock departures. It may not be just the sisters that will be leaving."
One thing's for sure - with so much speculation around Roxy and Ronnie's exits already, it's clear that there really is some high drama to come in EastEnders in the not-too-distant future.
New boss Sean O'Connor has already overseen the exits of the Cokers, Whitney Dean's miscarriage and the latest trouble in Ben and Phil's transplant plot - but it sounds like the biggest twists and turns in Walford are still to come.
Lol
so their exits is death just filming more than 1 way to die
R.I.P IN THE POOL
Ronnie and Roxy heading for a gruesome end as they’re written out of the long-running soap
The pair, played by RITA SIMONS and SAMANTHA WOMACK, have been members of the cast since 2007 when they were introduced as the cousins of Phil and Grant Mitchell.
Enders bosses have been trying to keep the way they leave a complete secret, even telling people that they are filming several endings to try and confuse whispers.
But I’m told their end is going to be “gruesome” and involve a swimming pool.
“From the minute it was revealed they were leaving, and even before, the writers have been trying to think of a brilliant way to kill them off.
“They’ve been trying to keep it a huge secret.
“The swimming pool scene they’re working on will be huge and a real talking point for EastEnders fans. It’s going to be a grizzly, gruesome end for them
An EastEnders spokeswoman said last night: "We know how much our audience hate to have future storylines spoilt, so we do not comment on speculative stories. However, knowing there's huge excitement about the departure of the iconic Mitchell sisters, to keep this plot under wraps we are filming various different endings."
The pair, popular with viewers, told bosses they were off within days of each other earlier this year.
The Sun first revealed Samantha Womack had agreed with show chiefs to walk away after being offered an exit.
Then just days later Rita also confirmed she was leaving, in what bosses described as a "big storyline".
It's believed the final swimming pool script for their deaths has already been written and that it's being plotted for New Year's Eve
Im not sure how true this is, as its from the sun. So take it as you please.
so it was show decision to get rid of sam and rita, who goes to a swimming pool on new year's day
Like I said, its from the sun. So I don't know how true it is.
Bit of a random way to go, maybe they decide to take the kids as a treat and something bad happens while they are there?
Or it could just be a fake story to put viewers off the scent? I'd be surprised if they did kill both of them off, I would have thought EE would have learnt by now that too many deaths spoiled the show. I agree that Ronnie and Roxy need to be rested, but that doesn't mean that they won't be needed down the line.
It is a very random plot. So we will have to see I guess.
