Can't wait til I pass my test, although thats a while off yet :(
I want a new mini when I pass but I doubt I can afford it or the insurance. I might settle for an older mini though.

i failed my first test got my 2nd one coming up on 23 bring it on lol
Finally got another lesson booked for today. My driving instructor had a major car crash about a month ago (the day before my sister's test) so she's had no car and she's been really ill with whiplash and brusing. I'm really excited cos she's got a really smart car with bucket seats and it's red inside!!
So how did it go this time alkalinetrio? Did you pass?
The car sounds very nice jelly belly!! :p x
I just wondered how much everyone is paying for their lessons?
The AA have quoted me £26 per hour. Which is a rip off. Red Driving School have quoted me £24 per hour, which is mental as well. Well, at least i think so.
I'm not learning, but my mates who are/have, have paid between 15-20. Closer to 20 for most of them though.
One mate, paid 500 for 20 lessons, her theory and test all in one.
I got 10 lessons for £160 or £18 per hour. It's now gone up to £170 for 10 or £20 per hour. £26 is ridiculous for one hour.
I went for a 3hr lesson on Tuesday to the test station and we did a few test routes. It was so different to driving in town because you can only do about 30mph and there's only 3 manouvers we can do. I got to drive at 80mph down a 2 mile straight which put a smile on my face :) I like going fast. Did a hill start, managed to do it on the 3rd go. I felt more confident as we were going round the route.
Some idiots decided to cut me up, I nearly crashed. There was a HGV parked on the opposite side of the road on a 2 mile straight (god knows where the driver was). I was approaching it when 3 lorries with bales on came zooming around the HGV and nearly crashed into me. Then when I started to move again the idiot in the van behind me decided to come up between me and the HGV. It really peed me off.
I've got my first lesson on Monday :D
Though its during the rush hour, which isn't good. Because there isn't anywhere around me which is quiet at that time. So we'll probably waste most the lesson finding somewhere i can drive, lmao.
I passed my theory today. 46/50 for the theory and 47/75 for the hazard. There was a really strange question on the theory part about putting chains of the wheels. I was like  where exactly would you put chains on the wheels? I took a random guess and was right.
Practical test booked for Friday 16th November. If I fail on anything it will be speeding and positioning on roundabouts. The roundabouts aren't always a problem, it's just the two big ones around my test station that I tend to cut people up on.
Six weeks and I'll be passed :cheer: :cheer: (hopefully)
ooooo I hope you pass Jelly Belly
Most of my friends are learning to drive now, I still have months and months to wait
Good luck!! I'm going to put in for my theory soon as well :)
4 weeks and I can learn to drive:cheer: :D I've got a theory CD so I'll practice on that sometime :p
I found it easier to get a theory handbook than do the CD roms because you can go back to questions that you don't understands and it gives a thorough explanation. It also includes all the questions you can ever be asked.
This one http://www.play.com/Books/Books/4-/3...7/Product.html includes the new Highway Code that came in a few days ago.
Yup, i have that handbook too. Its really handy (Though a bit thick!)
I failed :( 16 minors and 2 dangerous  My two dangers really were dangerous. I've never made those mistakes before in my lessons so I don't know what I was thinking. I deserved to fail on those two alone.
Two of my minors that I was marked down for were wrong in my opinion. I got a mark for ancillary (wipers and lights) even though it wasn't raining and I didn't need lights on  and I got a mark for car maintenance. I did everything my instructor showed me to do and say yet I got a mark for it. I switched my hazards on to show him my indicators and then walked around and said "this one is working, this one is..." and he just stood at the front of the car looking at me.
Another thing that wound me up was when I pulled back into the test station. He told me to pull into the bay next to this other lad that was doing his test so I did. I got a bit too close to the car and there wasn't enough room to open the door so I said I'd back out and pull in again. I got half way out the he said "what the hell are you doing? Put a full right lock on and go park over there." He was really nasty the way he said things when I did something wrong.
Apart from those two dangers and the silly minors, which I would have argued with, I would have passed. There was no point in arguing about the minors, I'd failed on the dangers alone.
My sister said lots of people complain about him. He's failed her three times on silly things like not looking in mirrors enough.
Lol, long post...
Sorry to hear you didn't pass :( Only one person I know passed first time though! Sure you'll be fine next time :) Some test instructors are such idiots! Luck of the draw I guess :)
I'm sorry to hear you didn't pass..but I wouldn't worry about it too much - atleast you tried your best, that's the most important thing. :) And it takes quite a few people, a few times before passing their test (Well the people I know anyway. :p)
Thanks. I don't know many people who have passed first time except my dad and brothers in law. My instructor said 50% of people fail first time so at least I'm not alone.
I'm going to book my test for the end of Jan what with all the exams coming up, I can do without the added stress.
Its hard to pass your driving test. sorry to hear you didnt pass. Good luck with the next one though.
JB - the thing with checking your indicators - putting your hazards on won't allow you to check your indicators - they are wired differently to your hazards, so you would need to put each indicator on individually to ensure they were working, not your hazards. Your hazards could be working fine, but your indicators still might not. Hope that helps.
Sounds like he was a bit of one though. Good luck for next time
Had my first lesson today :D My instructor spent most of the lesson telling me where everything was, but I didn't expect to drive much anyway on the first one.
Great fun though, when I did drive a bit, changed into the wrong gears a couple of times, and did the wrong indicators but apart from that it was ok. :p There's a lot of parked cars near me so I'm afraid of crashing into them:lol:
Question:..
Does everyone get the same book/disk to learn for the theory test? If so what book/disk?
It's just that I wouldn't mind getting one after I take my GCSE's so I can take the theory and then concentrate on getting my license as soon as I can! :p Thanks in advance x
If you go to http://www.tsoshop.co.uk/bookstore.a...trackid=000177 I got my theory CD and the highway code from the DSA. It's the product list, although it's probably cheaper to get it off amazon etc. :)
I got The Official DSA Theory Test for Car Drivers. Great book and I think the new one now includes the revised highway code. [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-DSA-Theory-Test-Drivers/dp/0115528865/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1195423434&sr= 8-2"]Amazon.co.uk: The Official DSA Theory Test for Car Drivers: Valid for Theory Tests Taken from 3rd September 2007 (With New Highway Code): Valid for Theory Tests Taken from 3rd September 2007 (With New Highway Code): Books: Driving Standards Agency[/ame]
I got CD-ROMS on theory test, hazard and road signs (3 separate sets). Each set had two disks and loads of practice questions. Personally, I found them useless and pretty boring. The book worked better for me because I could take it out with me and I enjoy reading. The book also gives a clear explanation of each answer with the question.
Also, the book covers every question you can ever be asked in the theory test and you don't have to keep changing disks to look at different sections of the test.
Second lesson, stalled a few times :p Went in big circles but getting the hang of the gears and the clutch and the gas. I saw my Dad driving in the opposite direction on the way back, he looked scared
Good luck to everyone with a test over Christmas time.
Has anyone got one booked?
I have my theory a few days before Xmas. I booked it a while ago, but its really busy in all the local ones. I've had about 10 lessons now, which is good. I've only really got to do the rest of the maneuvers, and then just practice putting it all together.
I passed, with 10 minors! :D
Excellent!! Congrats.
I'm rebooking mine for the beginning of February. Hopefully this time I won't pull out on a red light at a box junction and nearly kill somebody. I can't wait until I pass.
thanks!
i was so sure i messed it right at the start with my bay park, but obviously not! I can't do reversing around the corner for the life of me, and he asked me to, my heat sank, but we couldnt do it as a van was there, he said do the next corner, my heart sank again, but there was a car there, so he told me to carry on.
I ended up doing a turn in the road five mins later which i did perfectly, someone up there was looking out for me, by making all the corners busy! :D
I can't reverse around a corner either. I had to do one on my test and the road was on a camber and an incline. I did ok I think. I didn't end up in the middle of the road like I usually do.
I think reversing around a corner is pointless.
What other manouver did you do?
congrats bry!!!!! well done :D
well done bryan! :D
Congrats! :D Was it your first attempt?
