Well Italy are out
the uropean teams really havent shown up this tournament!
Japan played brilliantly this evening.
The Japan team were fantastic last night.. great match!!
The World Cup is a bit like WW2.
The French surrender, the Yanks arrive late, the Italians leave early and the English are left to fight the Germans
Ghana have won, Im quite happy that theyve won :D
Actually I would have loved to have seen the USA progress to the next round
i did and i didnt want them to progress, im pleased with Ghana going through as they are the law african nation left i think.
Big game today, should be good to watch.
What a weekend.. A german won the Grand Prix and Germany won the match... great weekend for me!! I get to watch at least one German game in Germany.. looking forward to the next match on Saturday...
Germany through and England out the better team won
I think the fact that James was by far the best England player on the pitch and he let four in sums it up really! The better side definitly got through.
Def calls for technology, now the irish and english have something in common, england fans cannot balme that for the outcome of the whole match as they were just not good enough!
I enjoyed the match as a game though, some brilliant play in parts! and i watched Galway Sligo in the GAA before which was just as exciting so a good day of sport for me!
Like you, Katy, I am not saying the outcome would have been any different if Lampard's goal had not been disallowed, but it just seems so ridiculous in this day and age that crucial decisions like that cannot be referred to a fourth or fifth official looking at a TV replay. It's not as though the technology is not there. After all, the whole world knew it was a goal apart from the referee and his assistant through watching it on television. Replays now play a crucial part in cricket and tennis for example in ensuring the right decisions are reached.
Heard a few vuvuzelas right after the game, otherwise the village I live in is quiet, much to my surprise. Guess my car will be safe from attack, hope so, anyway :)
When dealing with Englishmen, the golden rule now is: Don't mention the four!
All joking aside. It really is time that football joined the 21st century. Some of the refereeing decisions have been appalling. One of Argentinas goal was miles offside and the goal scored by Lampard was well in. There have been numerous occasions where a TV replay would have changed things. It works very well in Rugby and its now high time that it was introduced into football
Although I agree with you, I don't agree with the many thousand who said it would have been a different game had that goal been allowed.. the attitude was all wrong.. only one goal down and they would have still been in with a change (with or without that goal) if they had played as a team and got into the game. Low said that he told his guys to get another goal in the second half and told them that the back was weak to attack that.. I agree with him.. Having then seen the Mexico/Argentina match where the goal was miles offside but the way Mexico kept playing was a credit to them.. they never gave up and even 3 - 0 down they managed to keep going forward and score.. that is how you play! as a team and keep hoping.. England just lay down and gave up in the second half..
They had 45 mins to get a draw and defend against Germany, they didn't take it. After the hand ball by Henry, Ireland kept pushing forward to the end to prove they were not going to give up... England need to re think everything and work as a team.
Roll on the next match. I will be watching in Germany with one Argentina supporter (my daughter)..
Sepp Blatter has apologised to England and Mexico for the mistakes made by the referees.
Well that's all right then.

Portugal to win against Spain today on penalties hopefully
NIGERIA were last night suspended from world football – by their own president.
President Goodluck Jonathan imposed a two-year ban as punishment for the Nigerians crashing out of the World Cup at the group stage.
His special adviser Ima Niboro said: “Mr President has directed that Nigeria will withdraw from all international football competition for the next two years.”
Nigeria finished bottom of Group B with just one point

Spain V Portugal was a very dull game bar David Vila's goal (he is very hot) Ronaldo played crap
Thats a bit steep for the old nigerians, they werent that bad, France were a lot worse!
I agree the spain match was pretty awful!
David Beckham gives Yahoo! the inside track on England's disappointing World Cup campaign and tells us which players have impressed him in South Africa.
What was your assessment of England at the World Cup?
We didn’t play at the level we knew that we were capable of. Over the four matches we weren’t good enough and regardless of the goal that never was, Germany played better than we did over the 90 minutes and deserved to go through. Having seen the lads in training, the spirit was good, everyone trained at a really high level, it was just disappointing we couldn’t transfer that onto the pitch. As a team, we have to learn from everything that’s happened, come back stronger and play to our potential.
What was the experience of watching from the bench like?
It was different and at times I wanted to get out onto the pitch and play! It was frustrating at times, but purely because I know what the players out on the pitch are capable of. I have to say the fans were unbelievable, like they always are. It must have been really tough, having spent the time and money they did and the team were so desperate to give them the success their support deserved.
Have your experiences in South Africa and the success of Diego Maradona given you the urge to take up coaching?
While I am flattered to be talked about as a coach and am always available for my country, whenever I am needed, I still see myself as a player and remain supportive of the manager. Diego has done a great job so far though and I wish him well.
Who do you think is in with a shout of winning the World Cup?
It’s a tough one, there are a few teams who are very closely matched and will be there or thereabouts. Argentina looked strong in qualifying from their group with three wins from three and are a potent attacking force with the likes of Messi, Tevez and Higuain. The Germans have such pedigree at World Cups and seem to get better as each tournament progresses. Brazil are Brazil, so you’d expect them to do well and maybe go on to the final. I love watching them play football, all the players are so relaxed and comfortable on the ball. I was lucky enough to play with a few in my career and they are without doubt some of the most skillful athletes.
My other two picks would be Netherlands and Spain. The Dutch have pace throughout their side and with Van Persie, Sneijder and Robben, they have potential match-winners. Spain, despite their shock defeat at the hands of Switzerland, are unbelievably strong all over the pitch. Villa is on red-hot form at the moment and if Torres starts scoring, they are going to be a handful for anyone. That’s before you consider Xavi, Iniesta, Silva, Alonso, Fabregas, need I go on?
Which players have impressed you at the tournament so far?
With all the pressure on Messi, prior to the tournament, he’s been a star-performer so far for me. He’s been brilliant on the ball and an important link man for Argentina and instrumental in their four wins so far. Sneijder has been in fine form for the Dutch and scored some vital goals. I’ve also been impressed with Chile as a team and Sanchez, bags of pace and trickery. Diego Forlan for Uruguay has scored goals but also worked hard for the team, the same can be said for Ozil for Germany. I’d heard a bit about him before the tournament and he hasn’t disappointed, at the centre of many German attacks. David Villa has been Spain’s standout performer. He has scored goals, created chances and worked his socks off for his team and looks a good bet to be the top scorer at the World Cup.
How will the performance of Team USA affect the development of football in the US?
It can only be positive. I thought USA played well in the tournament and it will stand them in good stead for future tournaments. I know TV viewing figures were considerably more in the US compared to the World Cup four years ago. The MLS is getting stronger all the time and the increase in the number of youth leagues will all help in the development of football in the US.
Capello will keep his job as England manager
im glad he has kept his job, hopefully he will create a new team with the youngsters coming through and prove that it was those overpaid wasters that were to blame, a manager can only be blamed for so much in my opinion.
Come on Ghana this evening!
I hope he does, cause he was kept on because he was too expensive to let go, not the best criteria. But I also think that too many changes of the manager does the team no good, so hopefully he can achieve it with more time. Gutted that Brazil are out :crying: might as well support Germany now lol
he officially staying it was decided this afternoon

im following Ghana and Argentina, because i love Tevez and Ghana are the african contingent, ive just loved watching all the football, there have been some appauling mathces but some great ones as well!
What a fantastic match on at the moment. Ghana v Uruguay. TheGhanians are playing their socks off. It would be great to see the last African Team in the finals
Yes, I agree, they are brilliant tonight
What a game it was last night, i was gutted for them. How he missed that pen in the last minute and fair play to him for stepping up first, that was so brave but not enough sadly.
Another team given a thumping by Germany. They have to be favourites to win it now.
Holland are winning :D Which is good, cos we have them to win in a sweep
A holland German final looks set to be on the cards! unless spain cause an upset but i cant see that happening. Should be interesting.
I think Spain stand a good chance?? Might be wrong but I think they will win.
I think It would be good if spain win cos it will be more interesting than the obvious winning
Spain won so it will be an very interesting final between Holland and Spain....Spain to win for me, as it is my adopted country :D
Darn it. I wanted Germany to win.
