Emmerdale star Dominic Brunt has revealed that his character Paddy Kirk's upcoming arrest could be the final nail in the coffin for his plans to move abroad.
Paddy is currently hoping to relocate to New Zealand for two years with his new wife Rhona and her young son Leo, having secured a lucrative job there.
However, next week's episodes see Paddy arrested for assaulting a police officer amid a violent clash with Leo's father Marlon over their ongoing custody battle.
While a desperate Rhona leaves for New Zealand with Leo anyway, Paddy finds himself in much bigger trouble than he expected as he remains on home soil.
Brunt told Inside Soap: "Paddy thinks that if Rhona can get Leo out of there, he'll be able to meet them later on. She needs to get away while she can - so Paddy tells his wife to just head off while no-one is looking."
Confirming that Paddy will be charged over the assault, the actor continued: "He thinks he's just going to get a caution, and doesn't realise the consequences until later.
"He doesn't take it seriously until a letter comes from the veterinary council saying he's got to go and see them, as they might have to suspend him from being a vet. He never for a moment thought this would prevent him taking up his new job abroad."
Emmerdale airs the arrest scenes on Friday, September 14 at 7pm on ITV1.
Emmerdale star Tom Lister has said that his character Carl King is still in love with ex-fiancée Chas Dingle.
A new storyline for the former couple kicks off next week as Carl learns of Chas's recent affair with Cameron Murray, before deciding to blackmail her in return for his silence.
However, Lister told Inside Soap that Carl's actions are mainly motivated by jealousy.
Lister explained: "The thing is, he's in love with Chas and always will be - and those feelings start bubbling up again. Given the fact that he and Cameron have a history of trouble, Carl's got no time for him in any way, shape or form."
The actor confirmed that Carl is "furious and devastated" when he finds out about Chas's feelings for Cameron.
Discussing the blackmail, he continued: "I love it when Carl is like this - all cruel and vindictive. But at the heart of it all, it's just because he's bonkers about this woman. He can't live with Chas, and yet he can't live without her."
Emmerdale launches the blackmail storyline on Monday (September 10).
Emmerdale's Paddy and Rhona get ready to leave the village in Friday night's (September 14) episode of the soap.
As fans have seen recently, the couple have decided that fleeing to New Zealand is the best way out of their current mess, so they bid an emotional farewell to Pearl as the taxi arrives to take them to the airport.
Well aware of what Paddy and Rhona are planning, Marlon rushes over to try to stop them from leaving with Leo. It's clear that he's not going to lose his son without a fight…
Emmerdale airs these scenes on Friday at 7pm on ITV1.
Emmerdale bad boy Carl King leaves ex-fiancée Chas Dingle horrified this evening (September 13) as he launches a ruthless attempt to blackmail her.
Carl (Tom Lister) is delighted after securing evidence of Chas's affair with Cameron, and wastes little time before showing his hand - letting the pub landlady know that he has her missing mobile phone.
When Carl refuses to give the phone back, Chas (Lucy Pargeter) knows that something is amiss. Her worst fears are then confirmed when Carl confesses that he knows what she's been up to after going through her pictures and texts.
Carl initially tells Chas that he hasn't yet decided on his next move, but ultimately issues a shocking demand - he wants the £30,000 she took from him two years ago in return for his silence. Will Chas co-operate?
Emmerdale airs tonight at 7pm and 8pm on ITV1.
