If they hadn't mentioned that Bethany had sepsis, I don't think anyone would have known otherwise, as we did not really see any sign of it. Some viewers do take these scenes as being realistic, some even think characters are real people. If this means some get the idea that sepsis is not really a serious, dangerous illness it could leave them not seeking treatment for themselves or others.
