I don't mean to start ranting lol but here I go (not picking on anyone btw and im speaking generally, aware there are other arguments and exceptions)
It might sound extreme to some people but I think homophobic comments or what can be interpretated as homophobic behaviour is just as bad as racism.
I can understand some of various parents opinions on here - apart from that people can be 'influenced' to be gay, it can easily be argued back we're brainwashed into 'heterosexual norms and values' more easily than the other way. In that respect, some people seem to have a 'passive audience' frame of mind i.e. monkey see monkey do, children will see something on TV and copy it (in which case Eastenders viewers must all be gangsters!)
It seems odd to me that people may complain about two men kissing or something, but being subjected to viewing scenes of violence, bullying, crime etc. is 'less of a taboo'. Take corrie - there was 'more of a hoohaa' over a gay kiss than there was of richard hillman killing a number of people.
I think that when they do sex education in schools they should educate also a bit more about homosexual relationships (because they tend to focus on the emotions of hetero relationships, and girls decisions regarding pregnancy). There was some of my friends who basically thought 'well sex ed is useless to me because how does it apply to me?'. By then many people have some idea of their sexual orientation or experimenting and there are teens out there with v. little support, information etc.
I do agree with what you are saying to a degree, but some people (not necessarily on these boards, but in general) its not about being homophobic, it more down to being ignorant about relationships other than hetrosexual.Quote:

I must admit I dont see what the big deal is with a gay kiss, but in tonights Emmerdale it was slightly more, and also shown early in the evening. Alot of people have said if it was a straight couple doing the same sort of thing, they would turn it over if their children are in the room.

you can wrap it up anyway you want, bottom line is i dont want to see two grown men snogging before the water shed.you talking about it being as bad as racism, but its no where near the mark,i dont want my children being educated about it at school, fair enough if you do but imoi dont want my children being taught about it.I dont want it being shown on tv at this time of night for my child to see and go to school and discuss it or kiss his mate thinking its ok to do so.Quote:

i am not against gays at all,i just dont wish for my son to see it and as i have already said and you acknowledged id do the same if a man and women were kissing too.if my son came home when he was 20 and told me he was gay id accept it,hes my son i love him no matter what but it doesnt mean id be ecstatic over it.Quote:
