EXT: Red Rum Pub
Patrick’s cab pulls up outside the Red Rum pub. He opens the door, goes to the boot and pulls out his suitcase. He then goes back to the door.
Patrick: Now are you sure that you’ll be ok going home alone?
Blonde: Course I will, babe.
Patrick: (to the driver) now make sure she gets home safely. Wouldn’t want anything to happen to my angel, would I?…. thanks for a fantastic weekend, gorgeous. Hope we can do it again soon.
Blonde: Sure will.
Patrick leans into the cab, gives the blonde girl a kiss, then leaves and shuts the door. The cab pulls away, and the blonde girl is clearly visible blowing Patrick a kiss. Patrick smiles, and turns to walk to the pub.
Val: Well look who it is. Nice golf trip?
Patrick: Ah, Val. Golf trip? What golf trip?
Val: The golf trip you just got back from. Amy told me all about it, after we went to the doctors. Poor thing, she was in bits. Surely you remember?
Patrick: Erm, yeah it was…great. Very relaxing. Did I hear you right? You went with Amy?
Val: Sure did. As I said, she was desperate for a shoulder to cry on. Bless her; I dunno if she’ll ever get over it.
Patrick: Well I’m sure it wont take her that long to get over going to the doctors!
Val: You have no heart, do you? She won’t get over not being able to have any children! But you didn’t even remember that that was the reason she went, did ya? You’re too busy thinking of ya blonde, to care about what she’s going through!
Patrick: (Shocked)….no children?? You mean, she’s….
Val: Infertile. Yeah, got it in one. The one thing she thought she could give ya, and she can’t. Anyway, I’m sure she’ll be thankful for your compassion.
Patrick: Val, I never said I didn’t care about it, or her. It just slipped my mind, so I’m sorry if I’m not perfect but…
Val: (mockingly) slipped ya mind? (Shouting) slipped ya mind? How the hell could something like that “Slip ya mind”? Patrick. You don’t deserve her, not a hair on her head. And if you think that your going to keep her, then you’ve got another thing coming. Get your act together, Patrick, before someone else gets in there before you. She needs you right now, Patrick. Just do us all a favour, and be there for her, or get out of her life.
Val turns and goes to walk off, when Patrick grabs her on the shoulder
Patrick: I don’t need any of your advice, Val. She’s my wife, and I know what’s good her. So get your nose out of my business, and my marriage.
Val looks horrified, so turns once again, and walks off
Patrick: (Shouts) and do us all a favour and get some dress sense!!
