Yes it must be, turn it on. :D
I don't disagree with you reference the quality of Emmerdale, when Emmerdale get it right they are simply the best, but EastEnders under SOC has had many lighter scenes recently. I am not saying all have worked and are funny, but there is certainly a change of direction with the show, much to the annoyance of the Twitter brigade.
The lighter scenes for me work well, seem natural and not as forced like Coronation Street. I can see alot of the work SOC did on the Archers creeping into EastEnders with things like the Church services, the Christmas show, the community feel of EastEnders which is much more visible than in Emmerdale or Coronation Street.
It is a myth that EastEnders is all doom and gloom, I have never bought into that. I am enjoying the mundane in EastEnders. However many fans do not like this new style for the show. I think EastEnders is now being made for a different audience and is much nearer to the show that was created by Julia and Tony.
black cat a sign of bad luck and death so misery as usual in ee for crimbo big emphasis on phil dying when it will be his cousins who do

I want the little black cat to find a home for Christmas. Perhaps Dot (who seemed to soften slightly towards it) will adopt it and bring a little love into both their lives? http://www.city-data.com/forum/pictu...?dl=1280434485
I'll be a lot more upset if the cat dies than the other Christmas deaths that have been mooted. :(
I wish people would stop believing that, black and black/white cats are the most difficult to re-home because of that :crying: Not seen EE for a few days ... better not watch it until fate of cat has been revealed, it would definitely spoil my Christmas if it gets killed and yes, I know it would not be for real but knowing that reality is very close to how this storyline might go, it would serve as reminder :(
The animal killer Abi lives there... the kitty is doomed.
Ironically i spent the am in the eye hospital this week, they were dealing with batches of 5 people having treatment for wet maculars Dot could have come with me.
Was there enough doom and gloom for you in Thursday's downbeat episode? :p
We had Phil giving up on life and secretly planning his funeral, Lee desperately trying to throw good money after bad, and Patrick who it seems has nothing to look forward to without the play. The whole tone of the episode was rather dark despite the play shenanigans (which seemed designed more to show the group up as losers than be funny) and the surreal marketplace sing along.
I'm going away to have a cry now... :crying:
I quite like what they are doing with Mick at present. Some nice comedy touches. I wonder how they write Linda out?
I enjoyed the play tonight, so true to am dram life. Donna is becoming one of my favourite characters.

I liked the Dot and Phil scene, they should have gone to the play together
Where is Kim?
Abi was very keen to help with Mick's crotch :p
Kim's on holiday.
Why is new Michelle back now, is her son returning again?
I wonder will Max deliver a turkey to Stacey :p
.

feck.. so its not old Michelle then (Susan Tully) visuals are lost on us blindies .. for a horrible moment I thought it was her daughter back (Vicky) :crying:
This must have been filmed when Kim was expected to last more than one week on Strickly :ninja::D
Anyway this is all a filler for when space monsters invade the square Xmas day snatch a liver from a stranger and stick it in Phil to save him while returning Glen Miller and the crew of the Mary Celeaste.
Personally I will be watching the Muppet Movie on sky cinema.
Such a shame Michelle's reappearance was leaked!
Poor lonely Dot and her new friend the stray cat reminds me a little of a biographical book written by James Bowen called:
A Street Cat Named Bob and How He Saved My Life
I haven't read it, but I've heard it's extremely heartwarming. The description reads: "The moving, uplifiting true story of an unlikely friendship between a man on the streets and the ginger cat who adopts him and helps him heal his life".

I hope the cat brings Dot some happiness - and vice versa.
Spoiler:
I enjoyed the whole epsidoe. Raw emotional scenes with Denise and Phil. My heart just broke for Dot, Lovely touch with Hev.
I love it when EastEnders remember it's rich history, very moving to hear Ethel Lou and Pauline. And what a duff duff.
It would be funny if Michael French returned to EastEnders and had scenes with Jenna Russell. :)
Hearing all those voices from the past was moving, nostalgic - and just a little bit spooky!
Yes thats right.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas Day episode. :cheer:
It wasn't perfect but there was plenty of festive spirit (without descending into mawkishness), Dot with her new washing machine and her pussy (or should that be her little Willie? :D), drama, and intrigue. It ended on an uplifting note with Bring Me Sunshine, and the cliffhangers have me anticipating tomorrow's episode.
Stacey looked a bit too delighted to see Max back if you ask me... :p
I must admit I did enjoy that epiosde tonight. No stunts, nothing too dramatic, just normalish life at Christmas with Families. Dot just keeps breaking my heart. She did have the line of the episode when speaking to Ethel, "Don't go licking yourself in front of the Queen!" :D
Drunken Kathy was funny, I love her rendition of "Bring me sunshine" I am sure Eric and Ern will be looking down with a big grin on their faces. Nice touches with Skype with Linda, Sonia, Kim, Vincent and Pearl.
Daran Little's script was spot on. One of the best episodes of EastEnders I have seen in a long time. Everything just seemed so natural and it worked.
I watched all 3 soaps tonight and EastEnders was head and shoulders above the the other soaps, it really was. For those who don't watch EastEnders you really missed a treat.
Why did Lauren and Louis not go to Tanya's with Abi for Christmas?
I agree (though I only watched two soaps), EE was on top form tonight. It felt old school with pub knees up and everyone coming together to celebrate.
I was frustrated by Michelle's silence about the reason for her return, but of course that was deliberate to crank up the anticipation. :D
