STACEY'S FAMILY STRIFE

GOBBY Stacey Slater once lived in such squalor that if she had been taken to a rubbish dump she'd probably have thought they were shopping for new furniture.

Alarmed by news that ‘your mum’s goin’ mental again’, she leaves the comparative luxury of the Slaters to return to disturbed mother Jean in the family home.

There she finds a rusting old car, filthy mattresses, rotting sofas and a dilapidated pram. And outside is even more of a tip…

This is a harrowing and bleak story with graphically powerful performances by Lacey Turner as distressed Stace, and Gillian Wright as the desperate Jean who has been abused, humiliated, attacked and shunned by neighbours as she sank into the dark despair of her illness. ‘I’m never gunna leave you again, mum,’ the loyal but belittled daughter vows. ‘I’m gunna make sure that no one and nuffink ever ’urts you or scares you ever again.’

For all her efforts in tenderly bathing her, making sure she takes her medication and feeding her, she would need the combined forces of social services and the Salvation Army to rescue the distraught woman.

And not even Stacey’s best-intentioned efforts can prevent Jean from attempting to kill herself, while her former friends snigger on the sidelines.



‘She’s bipolar!’ Stace shouts at one girl who makes Vicky Pollard look like a Sloane Ranger. ‘But you probably think bipolar is where you get your penguins an’ yer icebergs.’



Chilling stuff indeed.

this storyline should be good we will get to see a different side to Stacey

I think Lacey is a good actress anyway.

Is the stacey and her mum story finished?
because it just seemed to finish all of a sudden?
and are we ever going to find out about sean on the picture or not?
