Not a very good fire investigator. - Even in a very fierce fire there would evidence of the timer, the plastic would melt but the metal pins of the plug would still be in place in the wall socket. I find it hard to believe they could not determine how it started, if there was no accelerant used, only gas could have cause such a large explosion.
