I feel he is gay/bi, married to 'do the right thing' and now has been alone so long he is reluctant and unsure of how to behave with a partner?
I had a gay friend who said her greatest regret was not finding a husband and having 2.4 kids? As to be 'normal' would have been so much easier and accepted
This was in the 90's where even in London, shouting at , spitting at and a bit of roughing up of gay women was the norm from men? let alone what it must have been like for gay men?

Or he might be- but not by the standard method??
I keep wondering when Chrissies sister will
turn up. Was mentioned in the familys
introductory publicity and it said she would
appear later....
It would give more background to the family
and she might be quite bright.?
Unless Ive missed it - we dont know if
Lawrence is widowed/divorced or whether
his marriage was for a few years or much
longer??
Perhaps theyve not decided yet ?

did lawerence tell edna his wife had passed away

I know it's not real, but it is sad to think in real life, there will be people his age who are gay but can't be themselves due to growing up in a time were it was despised.
He seems conflicted about his sexuality simply bizarre that Bernice will be with a guy who does not want to have sex with her. Sex is an important part of a relationship. Lawrence seems so upset about being attracted to men he clearly is sexually attracted to Aaron, Robert, and Connor. I think the show should make Aaron and Lawrence sleep together.

"make Aaron?!!!" doesnt he get any say?
Laurence is 70+ at least -or he would be too
young to have gone to prison for homosexual
acts-(which he did - to.protect Ednas husband)
Edna herself is mid 70s -so.her husband same
age??
I dont think.I know any/many 20+ year olds who
would find someone 70+ sexually attractive?
whatever their sexuality?
If Lawrence is attracted to much younger
people (men)-which I agree it looks like
he is.-then surely he is as free as a straight
person would be- not to act on those
feelings?
The people who.fought to have homosexuality
legalised** - wanted the freedom to be gay-
without the threat of prison! Not for it to
be compulsory! And to have.Equality!
**as Ive mentioned on another post -
some were work.colleagues who
spoke about those days- many years
after the events.

I think Serena means because these are fictional characters. None of them get any say.
I agree, Bernice and Lawrence is an odd enough pair, even taking out the fact that he is gay. Chrissie must be about the same age as Bernice and Aaron is even younger.
That would only work if Aaron was in it for money - I don't think he'd ever be that desperate.

I agree that they wouldnt get a say and the SWs
do make strange pairings in all the soaps -**
regardless of sexuality but Lawrence and Aaron
did seem very strange even by those standards!
Did think of money angle -which is often( but
not always( a factor in relationships with a
big age difference!
Per wiki - Aaron was born 1992 -so 23
Bernice born Dec 1968 so nearly 47.
To have gone to prison before Homosexuality
was legalised Lawrence would have to be
at least 70-ish.
I think they should give more details of
Lawrences back story - how old when
married and how long marriage lasted.
It would be interesting and perhaps
explain if the marriage was for conventional
respectability or if there was more to it.
Also cast light on his current attitudes perhaps!
**usually depends on who is unattached at
the time rather than compatability!

Lawrence White, character summary up to about July 2015
>
Name: Lawrence White
Born: About 1945
Spouse: Unknown Woman (Until 2011)
Children: Chrissie White, Rebecca White
Occupation: Farm Machinery Dealer (Owner at Lawrence White Farming Machinery)
Acted by: John Bowe (65yo, DOB: 01/02/50)
Lawrence White was born in about 1945 in Beckindale. He knew the Verney family who owned Home Farm when he was a child. He was once chased away by the gamekeeper for stealing fish on the estate. In his late teens in about 1962/1963 he was good friends with Harold Birch and soon established a relationship. Harold's wife Edna Birch reported Lawrence to the police and he was sent to prison as homosexuality was a crime in those days. Lawrence was tortured in prison for being gay, and even was given electric shock treatment to change him. When he was released in about 1964, Lawrence and Harold then pretended that Lawrence had died.
Lawrence later married a woman and had a daughter Chrissie White in about 1979. He had another daughter Rebecca White, after Chrissie. Lawrence's wife died in 2011.
In September 2014, Sandy Thomas did some research into Lawrence and found a Lawrence White who ran an agricultural business a few miles away. Lawrence was believed to have died 50 years ago. Sandy, Paddy Kirk and Aaron Livesy visited Lawrence and when they asked the receptionist to see him, Lawrence overheard them mentioning Harold Birch.
In October 2014, Lawrence bought Home Farm. He is very disapproving of his future son in law Robert Sugden. Lawrence mentioned how he knew the Verney family as a boy.
In July 2015, Lawrence went on a blind date with Bernice Blackstock.

Chrissie White's ongoing mission to prove whether Lawrence is her biological father reached a heartbreaking conclusion in Emmerdale last night as her worst fears were confirmed.
Chrissie (Louise Marwood) was left doubting her true paternity earlier this year after Lawrence opened up over his complicated past.
Lawrence had an open relationship with Chrissie's mother - much like he now has with Bernice - leaving Chrissie to ponder if he was the man who actually fathered her.
Chrissie has been determined to get answers ever since and has even been pursuing a DNA test. However, after chasing him for a sample, Lawrence was forced to come clean and confess that she didn't need one as he already knew the truth.
Lawrence then explained to a devastated Chrissie that it was impossible for him to be her biological father and he has always known he wasn't, but insisted that he loved her like his own regardless.
The bombshell will undoubtedly leave Chrissie with more mountains to climb, but where does it leave her relationship with Lawrence?

I really felt sorry for Lawrence when he burst into tears in Wednesday's episode. Regardless of anything else you could say about him, he loves his family. After his terrible experience in prison, he put his past behind him to have a family and try and feel "normal" in the society he lived in, and now it's all coming crashing down. I really wish Chrissie had just left things alone.

good scenes between him and ronnie, you got to feel for lawry
-
Really emotional stuff going on at the moment. Lawrence is so screwed up. I really hope he can get counselling or something and get himself sorted out.
-
Home Farm boss Lawrence White will find an ally in Aaron Dingle in Emmerdale tonight (July 15) as he struggles to cope with everyone knowing the truth about his relationship with Ronnie Hale.
Having lashed out at his ex-lover, Lawrence will start to direct his anger at his estranged wife Bernice as he angrily shoots a picture of her.
Witnessing all the commotion, a terrified Sam Dingle calls on Aaron for help in a panicked text. When Aaron arrives, he wrestles the shotgun from a broken Lawrence, before attempting to give him some much-needed advice about what to do next.
A sensible Aaron tries to convince Lawrence that he can be happy if he accepts who he is and stops lying to himself.
Sadly, Aaron's advice falls on deaf ears as Lawrence warns him that people don't change, suggesting Robert won't either. Can anyone get through to Lawrence? Or will he continue to spiral out of control?
Emmerdale airs tonight at 7pm on ITV.

Emmerdale actor John Bowe has revealed that he is leaving the ITV soap, and that he doesn't have a say in the matter.
The actor, who plays Lawrence White, took to Twitter to share the news.
"Emotional chat with @ChrisChittell earlier. I'm still upset. What a first class decent chap he is. As with everyone I'm going to miss him," he tweeted.

Fans were confused at first, believing that Bowe was referring to Chittell (who plays Eric Pollard) stepping down from the show, but told a fan that it was the "other way round".

"I'm going to miss him and everyone," he said, before telling another fan that leaving wasn't his decision.
"Not my decision. #actorslife," he tweeted.
A spokesperson for Emmerdale told Digital Spy: "We never comment on storyline speculation or actors' contracts."
Earlier this month, rumours began to swirl that Lawrence would be murdered by his grandson Lachlan, in a storyline that would also see Emma Barton written out of the show.
The rumoured storyline was set to play out in the run-up to Christmas, and although bosses believed the murders would "change" the soap, Bowe was unhappy about being killed off, as he was in Coronation Street.
An ITV spokesperson declined to comment on the rumours at the time, and it is important to note that Bowe does not specifically mention any storyline in his tweets, but did say: "I believe the information is in the public domain."

"Sorry. Contractually I'm not allowed to discuss storylines, contracts etc. Jx", he added.

I like to think that Lachlan will end up in jail again if he does murder Lawrence ... I can imagine that Chrissie and Rebecca will leave Home Farm too then

Thinking that Lachlan will find out that Robert has got Rebecca pregnant, try to kill Robert and accidentally get Lawrence instead.

Lawrence White’s life is about to take a dramatic turn in Emmerdale as an interview on a radio show leads to a shocking allegation being raised against him. But what is he being accused of and could the claim be set to ruin his life?
Fans already know that John Bowe is set to bow out of his role as Lawrence later this year in a shocking storyline that may see him shot dead by his unstable grandson Lachlan. So could this radio interview be the catalyst for his huge downfall?
When Lawrence is obliviously chatting on local radio, a caller phones in and makes the claim and Lawrence is left reeling.
We can’t reveal what the caller says – or whether what they allege about Lawrence is true – but we can confirm that this is the start of a dramatic time for the Home Farm patriarch.
Can Ronnie Hale and his family support him through the difficult times ahead – or could they discover that they don’t really know Lawrence at all?

I've just realized back on 2nd March 2017 episode in the pub it was mentioned that Ronnie Hale {Lawrence's gay lover had a Quarter Share in Home Farm} so how is Robert going to get hold of that without Ronnie being there to sign over or transfer his shares? also how do Rebecca White & Chrissie White have shares in Home Farm when they ONLY both signed a Co-Managers Home Farm Contract back on 27th October 2016 episode of Emmerdale
-
this is how I see things playing out
1: Robert continues getting shares of home farm by late December / beginning of January
2: Tim Richards kills Lachlan White & Gerry as revenge for tying him up in the boot / kidnapping him and leaving him tied up in the barn where Chrissie and Lawrence found him with Lachlan and Gerry the following day
3: Chrissie gets framed for their murders as well as Finn's murder and gets sent to prison
4: Rebecca finds out about Robert and Lawrence being in bed together , she disowns her father and then takes off with the baby
5: Robert completes his mission by destroying Lawrence and his family, Lawrence leaves the village, Robert sells Home Farm to Tom Waterhouse and Graham Foster { the two guys Debbie Dingle has a storyline with }

is lachlan to kill both lawry and emma

Emmerdale producer Iain MacLeod has teased a "spectacular" and "intense" exit story for the White family, and to be honest, we wouldn't have expected anything less.
Speaking to TV Times, Iain teased high drama – and even death – when talking about the family's planned exit in the next few months.
"There's been speculation there could be a death as part of their exit story, but I don't want to reveal too much," he hinted.
"We are doing something spectacular in January and the Whites will be a major part of that. It'll be one of the most intense rollercoaster months we've ever had."
While it's not yet confirmed whether Chrissie or Lachlan will be leaving Home Farm along with Rebecca and Lawrence, we can bet that if they do, Robert Sugden has something to do with it.
Fortunately for Robron fans, though, Robert is expected to undergo some sort of redemption following his dark plot to take control over the Whites' estate.
Opening up about his new role as a dad to his and Rebecca's son – and the inevitable reunion with Aaron – Iain added that "a major turning point" is coming for the character.
"Being a parent changes you profoundly, Robert feels he's let down the memory of his own dad, Jack Sugden."

I've found it all rather hilarious and repulsive at the same time. Pleased that it appears to be over.
