Emmerdale bosses have revealed that there is no back-up plan in place to escape bad weather on the night of the soap's live episode.
The ITV1 serial will broadcast an hour-long live edition to tie in with its 40th anniversary celebrations next month.
As the special instalment will be shot entirely on location at the Emmerdale village, cast and crew must be prepared to cope with poor conditions on the night.
Speaking at an Emmerdale press conference, the episode's director Tony Prescott was asked whether there is a 'plan B' to keep the cast dry in the event of rain.
However, he replied: "No! It's so complicated to try and stage something of this magnitude. It's going to take us 11 days to rehearse it. We'd have to rehearse for another 11 days on top of that.
"You've got to make it so precise. There's no chance that we can move a camera on the night to another position, because there won't be a light there. Chances are, there won't be an actor there! So I think, to quote Danny Boyle, 'what is ours is going to be ours' on the night."
Meanwhile, series producer Stuart Blackburn joked: "An hour one October evening in a field on a hill in Yorkshire - what could possibly go wrong? It is thrilling and terrifying measure, I think. The village is my favourite character in the show. It's a spectacular and dramatic location."
He added: "If it does chuck it down, then Katie's wedding dress is just going to have to get sodden!"

Sarah Dingle was originally going to die of her Fanconi's but then I read it was thought too hard hitting and the script changed for her to survive
but maybe a red herring, and after all she will get worse? that would be moving and affect a number of people

It's this comment " viewers will be moved by the death" that's bugging me ,I don't know whether Cameron fits the bill, now bearing in mind I'm always wrong on these things , I wonder if Robbie gets involved with pushing drugs at the music festival, gets threatened , Declan steps in to protect him and pays with his life? Either way it'll drive me barmy till it's televised.
Or Carl and his kids are they-moving people by their response?
Emmerdale star Sammy Winward has revealed that she is worried she may burst out laughing while taking part in the soap's forthcoming live episode.
The actress's character Katie Sugden has a major role to play in the 40th anniversary special, which takes place on the day of her wedding to Home Farm boss Declan Macey (Jason Merrells).
Winward and other Emmerdale cast members have already admitted that they are nervous about the challenge ahead. Show bosses have lined up 11 days of rehearsal for the live broadcast, aware that anything could go wrong on the night.
Confessing her main concerns, Winward told The Mirror: "My biggest fear is corpsing - just starting to laugh and not being able to stop. It happens all the time when we're filming. We can be in fits of giggles for 15 minutes at a time which drives everyone mad - but I'm hoping I'll be so scared this time I won't dare.
"And, like all actors, I've got that fear of forgetting my lines. I keep having this dream where I'm on stage and I don't know what the play is we're doing. It's horrible. Oh, and I'm really clumsy too - I've already fallen over twice today, so who knows what I could do.
"So yes, the sleepless nights have started already. Put it this way, I'm going to be stocking up on Rescue Remedy and relying on my friends to help me through."
While one character will be killed off in the live episode, Winward hinted that she would like Katie to stick around for at least a few more years.
She said: "I started in the show when I was 15, so I've grown up here and the people I work with are my best friends. I only came in for eight episodes and I'm still here.
"When it was the 30th anniversary, it felt very much like I was one of the newcomers, now I'm lucky enough to be a big part of the 40th and who knows, I might be here for the 50th too."
Emmerdale celebrates its 40th anniversary next month.
With Bernice returning perhaps the dead character is connected to her
Emmerdale's Steve Halliwell has reiterated that he is "happy to stay" playing Zak Dingle on Emmerdale.
The actor, who has previously said he would like to play Zak "forever", made his debut on the show in 1994 but said he still feels like a new addition to the soap.
Speaking to PA ahead of the upcoming 40th anniversary episode, he said: "I still feel like a bit of a newcomer but when it comes up to 40 years and I realise I've been in it 18 or 19, I've been there nearly half of that. It's unbelievable how time flies.
"It's odd when young actors and actresses come on and say, 'I've been watching you since I was that height', and I think, 'Have you?'"
It has been an eventful year for Zak, after he was sectioned due to suffering a mental breakdown.
Halliwell said of the more serious storylines for Zak: "You can only do what's written, and a lot of it over the years has been the comic side of things, and our current producer Stuart [Blackburn] is very keen on making it serious drama so he gave me the chance to show other things that I can do."
He added: "I've got to an age now where I don't want to be chasing work just to show people I can do something else, I did all that in the theatre and I love playing the character, so as long as they want me, I'll stay."
The 40th anniversary live episode of Emmerdale will air next month.
^ Could be the put us off thinking he is leaving and then Zak dies :( like what happened with Lynsey in Hollyoaks
Sarah Dingle develops leukaemia soon, but that shouldnt kill her by October?!
and that doesnt answer the murder issue?
I would still go for Cameron or Carl - one or the other being murdered as a result of the 30k issue - but who would be moved by either? Debbie, but not if she knows about his afair - Jimmy?
hardly PEOPLE being moved is it...?
I personally think it's Cain. He's been quiet recently but that is exactly why I think it will be him. Carl/Cameron are too obvious and we know Cain will go mental when he finds out about the affair and probably try and kill Cameron only to be killed himself.
Debbie's baby must be due very soon, so for her to want the birth induced Sarah's condition must be very critical, so perhaps Sarah doesn't survive, and it's this that "moves people" and results in a murder, particularly if it's going to be a "who dunnit", and we know they can drag on for months with so many suspects ? By the way Sarah c what transplant is being referred to ,would a new born be able to survive such a procedure even if it's bone marrow ?
..
I hope Cain or Adam aren't leaving... I'm still leaning on Sarah. Rik is saying it's truly heartbreaking.
Emmerdale legend John Middleton has admitted that he is anxious about the soap's 40th anniversary live episode.
Middleton's character Ashley Thomas, who has recently suffered turmoil as a result of his marriage break-up, is expected to play a part in the rural serial's birthday week next month.
The actor told Inside Soap: "As you know, we're doing a live episode, and we're approaching it with trepidation!
"If anything goes wrong on set these days, people just turn round and go, 'I've got two words for you - live episode!'
"We don't know what's going to happen, but we've had various hints. It's terribly exciting."
Middleton's co-stars Sammy Winward (Katie Sugden) and Lucy Pargeter (Chas Dingle) have already expressed their fear over the live special.
Winward is particularly worried that she will burst into uncontrolled laughter during her on-screen wedding with Jason Merrells (Declan Macey).
So who has it coming - Cameron, Cain, Zak, Robbie, Carl, Ashley anyone else?Quote:
Blackburn explained that he wants the identity of the character in question to be kept as a complete surprise for fans on the night.
Blackburn commented: "It's not about being coy or wanting to play any games. As a viewer of soaps and drama, I hate it when I stumble across a spoiler and realise what's going to happen.
"With this episode, if we can have just one surprise - just once a decade - that would be fantastic. Teasers are great, spoilers I personally abhor."
Discussing the planned impact of the death, he continued: "I think it will move people. It will change our characters' lives for a long, long time and then drive the show forward with new stories for the coming months."
Meanwhile, executive producer John Whiston hinted that there could also be a sense of justice, as the doomed character "had it coming".
Alex with a bit of luck
Does anyone know if Adam Thomas is leaving the show? I noticed he hasn't had much of a storyline in months.
Not that I am aware of. All characters have more quiet stroylines before getting more involved again, I presume most characters will be seen again in this anniversary storyline and then again for Christmas
