Emmerdale vet Rhona Goskirk faces another heartbreaking setback next week as Paddy Kirk ends their marriage.
Paddy (Dominic Brunt) realises that he can no longer trust Rhona after he finds her with some pills, which prompts her to check into rehab to get professional help for her painkiller addiction.
Here, Zoe Henry - who plays Rhona - reveals what's in store as her troubled character continues to struggle.
Next week, Rhona finds out that Paddy has been confiding in Chas about her drug addiction. How does she feel about that?
"I think she feels really hurt, although she doesn't have a leg to stand on considering what she's just lied to Paddy about, which is enormous. I think she's feeling vulnerable and insecure about everything. She's worried that Paddy has lost trust in their marriage.
"I don't know if Rhona definitely thinks something is going on, but it's an uncomfortable feeling. She doesn't like the fact he's confided in Chas, but she has no right to say that really after her recent behaviour."
Rhona feels that Paddy has broken her trust, doesn't she?
"Yeah, I think it is the breaking trust. Deep down Rhona would never imagine that anything would happen between Paddy and Chas, but she's feeling so lost and so insecure at the moment that anything that rocks the boat is not good for her. She's emotionally unstable after what she's been through."
Paddy catches Rhona with some pills again. Does she intend to take them at this point?
"I don't think she does intend to take them, I think they're a security blanket. I remember when I gave up smoking, it was a similar thing. I would panic at the thought of not having any around, so I can understand that security blanket type thing.
"I think Rhona actually says that to Paddy: 'I wasn't going to take them - it was a security blanket. I need to know they're there so I've got the strength to stay off them'. However, I wouldn't trust Rhona with them. As much as she says she wasn't going to take them, she'll take one and then she'll be taking the whole packet before you know it. I don't think she can ever be trusted again. She's a true addict."
Does Paddy believe Rhona when she says she hasn't taken any?
"I think he believes she hasn't taken any - she has the pills there and he can see evidence that they haven't been touched, but I doubt he believes that she was never going to take any. If he hadn't have caught her red handed with them, he thinks she may well have taken the odd one or two just to get herself through. That's what she was doing before when she was addicted - getting herself through and not realising she was properly addicted."
Do you think this moment is the last straw for their relationship?
"I think it's a real realisation point for Paddy. I think he realises that he just can't trust Rhona, and a massive part of any marriage is trust. Regardless of whether you're talking about people having affairs or people gambling or whatever, if you can't trust somebody, what have you got?
"They tried to do the cold turkey thing themselves which is terrifying and awful, and then they've gone to the clinic which is the best way to do it, and then she's gone and bought pills. I think Paddy just feels really, really let down and I think Rhona's let herself down. I think she probably feels quite ashamed too."
Do they get the chance to talk this through properly?
"Not really - Paddy's quite black and white about things. As a dithery guy, he's hit the nail on the head pretty much. He's done exactly what I would do which is say, 'No, this is not working anymore. I can't trust you - I've tried but I just can't' and he moves out, which is his way of dealing with it."
What is it that makes Rhona check into rehab?
"I think she realises how much is at stake here, and how much she could lose if she hasn't already lost it. That's her son, her marriage, her dignity, her friendships - all of those. She's risking those on a daily basis and I think she's taking it a bit lightly, the thought of getting over this.
"The reality is that the only way she's going to get everything back on track is if she gets completely clean. When Paddy refuses to speak about it and refuses to move back home, she realises something serious has got to change and something big has got to happen to get things back on track."
How does she feel about going to rehab?
"I think she's terrified. She's terrified of leaving her son behind, she's terrified of it not working, and she's worried about her marriage falling apart whilst she's in there if it hasn't already. I think she's frightened and like a little girl who's lost. She is trying the one last thing that she thinks might help her."
Is Vanessa there for her?
"Yeah, they've sort of patched things up but like any relationship or friendship, if you cross a line - which Rhona clearly did - you have to work to get it back. So yes they're speaking and yes they're friends, but they are in nowhere the sort of friendship state that they were before this terrible episode happened.
"Rhona has still got Vanessa, and she knows that Pearl is there for her as well. Pearl's a real mother figure to her but the reality is that she's on her own. She's got to do this on her own, she's got no choice."
Rhona doesn't see Paddy before she leaves, does she?
"She tries to. She goes and sees Chas and says, 'Look, this is what's happening. I'm going away, can you tell Paddy?' Chas is like 'Absolutely, I'll make sure Paddy comes and talks to you' and he doesn't. I think that's a real home truth for Rhona as well. It makes her realise the severity of the situation and how far she's got to go before she can get things back on track.
"She's a little bit heartbroken about that. I think she would have at least liked to say goodbye to Paddy before she went. This is an open book and she has no idea how long she'll be away for, no idea how long it's going to take her to beat this habit, and it's a scary place. She's not in a good place at the moment."
Do you think this really is the end for Rhona and Paddy?
"I hope not, personally. The actress in me hopes not because I like working with Dominic and I like those characters together - I think they work really well and I enjoy them, but I don't know. Rhona has done awful things and the one person she should have confided in is her husband, and she didn't.
"When you rock the foundations that much in any relationship, it's quite hard to come back. I think Rhona would like dearly to save the marriage - I'm just not sure Paddy will."
What kind of viewer feedback have you seen for this storyline?
"It's really positive. Viewers haven't seen Rhona heading off to rehab yet, but I think they'll be thrilled that she is. The main overriding thing, especially now they see the marriage problems, is that people want Paddy and Rhona to stay together.
"That's a really nice thing for Dom and I to hear because it means something's working that we're doing. So that's the sort of response I'm getting: 'Oh, Paddy's not going to leave her is he?' I can't really answer that question, can I?!"

Emmerdale fans will see Rhona Goskirk's marriage crumble next week as she discovers that her husband Paddy has been cheating on her.
After months in the dark over Paddy's bad behaviour, the penny will finally drop for Rhona after she becomes suspicious over his strange moods.
Paddy (Dominic Brunt) started enjoying a fling with married teaching assistant Tess Harris in the autumn, although he later called things off as he didn't want to lose Rhona and his family.
So how does Rhona finally figure things out? Zoe Henry, who plays her, revealed: "Paddy messes up by misdiagnosing a cow at James's farm. He's quite flippant about what he got wrong and he's quite rude to James about it, which is out of character for him. Rhona really senses that Paddy is under pressure, he's evasive and he's not around much.
"Rhona sits Paddy down to talk about what's going on, and it all finally starts to piece together for her. Paddy starts to tell Rhona that he's had a row with Tess, but she can't understand why Paddy would be arguing with her when she's just their child's TA.

Rhona realises that Paddy and Tess were having an affair
"In the end, she asks him the big question of whether he's the affair that Tess has spoken to her about. Paddy does admit it and he apologises. In some ways I think Paddy is enormously relieved that it's out there, but he's also terrified that he's probably just lost his wife."
While Rhona is naturally furious following Paddy's confession, her reaction may surprise many viewers as she later tells him that they have to carry on as normal.
Not wanting to jeopardise their plans to adopt a child, Rhona insists that they have to carry on living under the same roof - even though deep down she'll never be able to forgive Paddy.
Henry continued: "At first Rhona wants to know every detail. She wants to know where it happened, when, and how often! She wants to know the betrayal inside out - I guess so there are no more surprises down the line. Perhaps that is with a view to forgiving and trying to get through this.
"Rhona tells Paddy that they have to pretend everything is okay for the sake of the adoption. By focusing on that, somehow it lessens the pain of the affair for Rhona. As an outsider, that sounds insane to me! But I understand why Rhona does it, because she just doesn't want to think about anything else.
"Paddy is really treading on eggshells through all of this. One minute Rhona is yelling at him and demanding to know everything, but the next minute she's telling him that she never wants to talk about it again because she's concentrating on the adoption. I don't envy Paddy's position, but at the same time I don't really feel sorry for him because he's brought it on himself!"
With Rhona and Paddy firmly established as one of the village's much-loved couples, is there any chance they can get through this?
Henry teased: "If I were Rhona's friend, I'd tell her to have some space from Paddy. From a personal point of view, I would love to see them work through it and stay together, because I love working with Dominic so much.
"But I think it's probably a long road. If Paddy is totally honest and tells Rhona everything, there's a chance for them. I hope they work it out, because I love working with Dom and I can't bear to think that we just might be strangers in the night saying hello in the pub once a year!
"The story has been great, though. Everybody's asked if I was gutted when I found out that Paddy was going to have an affair. The answer is no, not remotely - Dom and I almost cheered! It's not because we don't want to spend any time together, but just because it's great fun to play out and we love shouting at each other - in the nicest possible way!
"It's been a really interesting journey so far with lots of twists, and I think there's probably a lot more to come. I think people have enjoyed loving to hate Paddy - and now they'll enjoy watching Rhona find out and how she deals with Paddy..."

Emmerdale love cheat Paddy Kirk will slip up badly next week when he decides to secretly attend Tess Harris's funeral.
The vet is suffering from a major guilty conscience following his affair with Tess and is determined to pay his last respects... but he makes a huge error when he tries to keep his wife Rhona in the dark.
It's Rhona who initially suggests that she and Paddy (Dominic Brunt) should both be there for Tess's send-off following her shock death. Paddy rejects the idea, so Rhona becomes confused and suspicious when she later realises that he went behind her back.
Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona, revealed: "Rhona suggests going to the funeral and Paddy says 'absolutely not'. Rhona listens to him, but then he goes without her. Megan also goes and spies Paddy.
"Megan later tells Rhona, but she still doesn't suspect anything untoward is going on. She leaves it and doesn't even ask him outright - she waits for him to tell her he has been.
"When he doesn't tell her after two days, she does start to think something is going on but still doesn't assume that it was an affair. She later asks him what's going on and tells him that she knows he went to the funeral, but then her world just crumbles around her.
"I've had people tweeting me saying, 'How stupid is Rhona?', but this is the thing - Paddy is so honest and dependable. There are a million things Paddy could do before he could have an affair in Rhona's mind! It's the furthest thought from her head, until it's right there in front of her and she can't avoid it."
As we've previously reported, Paddy reluctantly confesses all to Rhona but is left stunned when she becomes determined to carry on as normal - adamant that nothing should threaten their adoption plans.
Henry added: "The adoption is the only thing that Rhona has left to hang on to. She becomes a bit crazed about it. As a result of Rhona not wanting anyone to know anything is wrong, they are a bit mean to Pearl. She is the first casualty, as we ask her to move out! It's a terrible mess."

Emmerdale actress Zoe Henry has revealed Rhona Kirk will share a charged moment with her ex Marlon Dingle in the fallout of her marriage troubles.
The village vet is left devastated when she discovers husband Paddy has been having an affair with Tess Harris. And she will turn to her former flame Marlon for a shoulder to cry on, and for a moment they almost kiss!
Zoe explained: “What we are still filming now is a rollercoaster of emotions, she’s shocked and angry, all of these things.
“Through this journey she looks back at the crossroads in her life and thinks, ‘If I hadn’t of left Marlon this would never have hurt me’, so she questions that and it freaks Marlon out a bit!
“She tries to kiss him, well it depends how you look at it! She says some very lovely things and emotional things to him.
“He thinks she’s going to kiss him and she realises that it would be adding fire to fire and not resolving anything, but they are close anyway, they have a son together and a history so he’s actually an enormous support for her.”
Meanwhile Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy, says there is even more to come from this storyline.
He said: “It’s been really tough. I’m used to playing lighter stories or being involved in other people’s heavier stuff, like when Aaron came out, so it’s been lovely to be trusted with something like this.
“I’m used to being liked and now I am playing a baddie! There is more to come with this so keep watching!”

Spoilers suggest that Rhona kisses Marlon just the once but nothing happens beyond this except for Marlon to be Rhona's new best friend for a while? Of course, Rhona might just randomly fall in soapland love with Pierce in a while later...?
Rhona Goskirk will be thrown when she comes face-to-face with newcomer Pierce Harris again.
Upcoming episodes will see the penny finally drop for Rhona as she realises that her husband Paddy was having an affair with Tess prior to her shock death.
Although a heartbroken Rhona (Zoe Henry) insists that they should carry on as normal, she soon becomes riddled with doubts over her marriage and will eventually decide to visit Tess's grave.

Spoilers suggest that Pierce is "villianous". Also that Rhona is desperate for an adopted child. So Paddy should [IMO] survive his doomed fling with Tess, as Kirin was the obvious fall guy for Tess's downfall in the end?
I think Pierce will find out about the affair in a while. I reckon Rhona is very likely to stick with Paddy though (as "star-struck lovers", "till death do us part"?).
Just why does everyone think an adopted person will be a cute innocent baby? It could be a troubled pre-teen/teenager with personal/emotional problems placed in a stable home for just a few months or so, couldn't it?
Time will tell!
Emmerdale vet Rhona Goskirk will find herself under suspicion next week, as Pearl Ladderbanks wonders whether she's back on the painkillers.
Rhona (Zoe Henry) has managed to get her life back on track after an addiction to pills nearly destroyed her in 2013, but her friend Pearl will soon start to wonder whether her old demons have returned.
Pearl (Meg Johnson) jumps to completely the wrong conclusion when she realises that Rhona's marriage to Paddy has suddenly hit the rocks.
This comes after Rhona finally figures out that Paddy was the mystery man who Tess Harris was having an affair with before she died, forcing him to make a full confession.

Although a heartbroken Rhona insists on carrying on as normal so they don't jeopardise their adoption plans, her attitude infuriates Paddy (Dominic Brunt) as he knows that she's just burying her head in the sand.
When Rhona inevitably snaps and tells Paddy that she's glad Tess is dead, he retaliates by insisting that their marriage can never recover unless they talk about things.
Taking this on board, Rhona later asks Paddy for the full story of what happened between him and Tess. At first she is prepared to listen, but it soon becomes too much and she's left feeling ashamed when she loses her temper in front of her son Leo.
Later in the week, the troubled couple also have a second blazing row in their car - but this time Pearl witnesses the whole thing.

Zoe Henry [Rhona] and Dominic Brunt [Paddy] gave a recent interview to Sarah Ellis from Inside Soap about his latest storyline involving Paddy's recent love affair with Tess Harris.
Sarah: Can we just say, we're still in shock that Tess is dead! How did you feel when you found out it was going to happen?
Dominic: We knew from the start, actually, didn't we? We asked Nicola [Stephenson, who played Tess] about it in her first week, and she said she knew she wasn't staying - she had another job to go to straight after.
Zoe: We were just thrilled that Paddy was going to have an affair!
Sarah: It sounds a bit like she's [TW: Rhona] going to let Paddy get away with it...
Zoe: Oh, don't you worry, Rhona's not particularly nice to him. You'll all be thrilled by how awful she is to him! If she is nice in any way, it's for her benefit or the benefit of their adoption plans.

Emmerdale stars Zoe Henry and Dominic Brunt have teased more fireworks in Paddy and Rhona's ongoing storyline, confirming that newcomer Pierce will be "inflammatory" to the situation.
Rhona's world came crashing down around her last week when she finally learned the truth about her husband Paddy's affair with Tess Harris.
The events followed the tense episodes earlier this month that saw Tess get killed in a hit and run at the hands of Kirin Kotecha. The teacher's death also led to the introduction of her husband Pierce and viewers will be seeing a lot more from him in the coming weeks.
Speaking on This Morning today (February 23), Henry, who plays Rhona, said: "Pierce will be fairly inflammatory to the situation.
"We don't know a great deal. Jonathan [Wrather, who plays Pierce] knows more than we do but he is here for a stretch."
Brunt, who plays Paddy, added: "There are going to be fireworks. I really want to tell you what happens but I can't. It's great though."
The aftermath of Rhona's discovery saw her make the surprise decision to stay with Paddy in a bid to pursue their adoption plans. However, the actress has suggested that her plans could start to fall apart in the near future.
Speaking about whether she agrees with her character's decision, Henry said: "Personally, no. It doesn't feel right but I understand where Rhona is coming from.
"This is the only thing that she can focus on that keeps her sane but I think it is fair to say that inevitably the wheels come off down the line."
Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk seizes her chance to take revenge next week when she flirts outrageously with her son Leo's new teaching assistant.
Rhona (Zoe Henry) was recently left devastated when she learned of Paddy's affair with Leo's last teaching assistant Tess Harris, so she decides that it's high time to get even next week.
Tess's replacement is a man called Chris, so Rhona can't resist playfully proving a point to Paddy (Dominic Brunt) by pretending to be romantically interested in the newcomer.

Rhona flirts with Chris
Having witnessed the whole thing, Paddy confronts Rhona over her behaviour but soon lives to regret speaking out when she fires back with a few more home truths of her own. Yikes - this one looks set to run and run.
With the troubled couple at breaking point once again, it's not long before some of their closest friends are brought into the tense situation - starting when Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) learns of Paddy's affair for the first time.

Paddy gives his side of the story to Marlon, who later listens to Rhona and comforts her when she breaks down over her strained marriage.

Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk makes a heartbreaking decision next week as she finally calls off her adoption plans.
The heartbroken vet has desperately clung onto the idea of adopting a child ever since discovering that her husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) cheated on her.
Rhona has been trying to pretend that everything is normal in her marriage in a bid to keep the adoption on track, but this finally proves impossible next week when Tess Harris's husband Pierce (Jonathan Wrather) uncovers the truth about her affair with Paddy.
Viewers will see Pierce punch Paddy in a furious showdown at The Woolpack, which turns Rhona and Paddy's marital problems into hot village gossip for the first time.

Pierce attacks Paddy
In the aftermath, Rhona's best friend Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) gets heavily involved in the situation as she urges her to see sense and call off the adoption.
Rhona initially refuses to listen to Vanessa, but the reality of the situation dawns on her when she later sits down for her latest meeting with social worker Rita.
Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona, commented: "When Rita turns up in the village, Rhona has totally forgotten that they've got a meeting planned. Of course, it's the day after Pierce confronted Paddy. Now people in the village know, because the confrontation happened in The Woolpack. Word has got round and Rhona feels mortified that she looks like a pushover.

Pierce fumes at Paddy
"Rhona is still determined to have the meeting, but Vanessa thinks it's ridiculous and they can't go through with the adoption. Rhona has a bit of a row with Vanessa and says some mean things to her.
"Afterwards Rhona goes to the meeting with Rita, who talks about how the child that they're going to bring into their lives needs a stable and happy home. That's when it all just crumbles around Rhona. She realises how insane it is and just says: 'I can't do this'. She tells her everything, and Rita is very understanding."
With the adoption off, Rhona soon lurches into the next plan to save her marriage by telling Paddy that they should move to Germany for six months and see if they can make things work.

Paddy and Rhona talk
Leo's father Marlon is quick to lay down the law by insisting that they can't take the youngster with them, but Carly suggests to Marlon that it might be a good thing if Leo ends up with three happy parents again. Could this make Marlon change his mind about the trip?

Paddy and Rhona tell Marlon about their plans to move away
Henry added: "I think Rhona really believes the trip can work. Paddy doesn't necessarily want to go, but he will do whatever it takes to make his marriage work.
"As an outsider, I don't think it would. Rhona is still not wanting to talk about what happened. There's been no talk of counselling, or any of those things that would be an obvious choice to get through something like this. Personally I don't think a change of scenery will help, but Rhona is hell-bent on it."

Is Zoe leaving?
I don't think it's fair on Marlon to take Leo away for 6 months. Perhaps it would be better for Rhona and Paddy to go away without him anyway.
her painkiller addiction is to be revisited while she recovers
Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick has teased dark times ahead in the Dales.
The actress, who plays Vanessa Woodfield in the ITV soap, has promised some exciting storylines as evil Pierce Harris is set to turn against her character.
Speaking to the Daily Star, she said: "Vanessa knows something isn't right in Rhona and Pierce's relationship. There have been so many warning signs which build up and it gets very dramatic.
"It's set to get so much darker and as a soap villain he has the potential to go all the way, not just with Rhona but with anyone in the village who gets in his way. He will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
"But if anyone has the potential to take him on, it's Vanessa."

Rhona's relationship has become a cause for concern amongst her loved ones and fans alike - but things look set to get worse when she accepts Pierce's proposal of marriage in upcoming scenes this week.
It comes after she shares a moment of passion with her ex-husband Paddy Kirk, when a drunken heart-to-heart in The Woolpack ends in a kiss.

Rhona Goskirk has been through a terrible ordeal at the hands of her new husband Pierce Harris after he subjected her to a horrific rape in Emmerdale. But now, a shattered Rhona has seen the monster for what he is – and prepares to bravely report what happened to the police.
After the violent attack, Pierce tries to play down what happened, even implying that Rhona wanted it and was asking for it. Rhona is horrified and knows that she needs to get away from Pierce, while he sets about getting ready to return to their wedding party as if nothing has happened.
In emotional scenes that will air tonight, Rhona makes the courageous move to attend the police station and report her ordeal. But as officers pledge their help to a deeply shaken Rhona, will she reveal the perpetrator of her attack or will her fear of what Pierce might do lead her to leave his name out of it?
It remains to be seen what both Rhona and Pierce choose to do next but you can expect some deeply moving performances from Zoe Henry as a broken Rhona contemplates her wedding day turning into the worst and most traumatising ordeal she has ever faced.

I hope she reports him, it would be good to see a rape crime reported asap and investigation and charges brought
She does but I think she drops the charges as she goes on honeymoon with him .. this storyline is going for a while longer ... Zoe Henry was on This Morning today and said the story needs to be told entirely, it would not do to stop now after one incident as in reality they rarely do
Two incidents of rape , four or five physical violence incidents, hardly a one off. In her situation surely a mother's prime concern would be the welfare of her son Leo. Never seems to enter into the equation. If she reports the matter and background to the police they would have an absolute obligation to notify social services and indeed take action themselves concerning the wellbeing of Leo.
Emmerdale aired the devastating aftermath of Rhona Goskirk's rape on Tuesday night (April 25) as she decided not to name Pierce Harris as her attacker.
Rhona was brutally attacked by her new husband just hours after their wedding in last night's episode, sparking a debate among viewers about whether the intense storyline was suitable for the show's 7pm timeslot.
The ITV soap's latest episode saw Rhona left traumatised in the wake of Pierce's attack, especially when he showed no remorse and even tried to justify his behaviour.
Although Rhona tried to play along with Pierce's point of view, she soon managed to trick him by escaping from their house and taking a taxi to the police station – still in her wedding dress.
Rhona told the officers that she'd been raped, but when she heard that her attacker would have to be arrested if she named him, she got cold feet and decided not to take it further for now.
Instead, Rhona agreed to visit a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), where trained professionals gave her a medical examination and gathered together evidence.
As this evidence will be stored, this could prove crucial if Rhona does change her mind and decide to report Pierce.
Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona, had previously warned that Tuesday's episode would feature even more upsetting scenes than Monday's.
Speaking live on This Morning, she explained: "Tonight, in the playing, was harder than what we shot last night in a way, because of how Pierce reacts. You expect an apology or a 'I can't believe I did that', but that doesn't come.
"Rhona feels not that she deserves this, but that she's brought this about. She's seen signs and she's ignored them and she's defended him, and she's pushed her friends away. Here she is on her own and where does she go from here? That's the question, isn't it?"

There must be evidence from Rhona and her clothes of the attack even if she won't name Pierce, can the police still prosecute if Rhona drops the case?
Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk has left the village for a short break in the aftermath of her devastating rape ordeal.
After days of emotional turmoil, Rhona (Zoe Henry) made the big decision in Thursday night's second episode – realising that she needed time away to clear her head.
Rhona was raped by her new husband Pierce Harris on her wedding day earlier this week, but Emmerdale fans have been left fearing that he won't face justice as she's largely been suffering in silence ever since.
Although Rhona did briefly speak to the police and also visited a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), she felt unable to proceed with a full interview or pressing charges against Pierce.
Tonight's emotional double bill saw Pierce continue his appalling behaviour as he tried his best to manipulate Rhona even further.
Pierce warned Rhona that she wouldn't be successful if she pressed charges against him and even threatened to use their sex tape against her if she took it any further.
Only time will tell whether Rhona is scared off by Pierce's threats in the long-run, but for the time being, she's headed off on her honeymoon to get some much-needed distance from her evil husband.
Continuing to cover for Pierce by pretending everything was normal, she told Marlon Dingle that he'd be joining her later on after something unexpected cropped up with work.
Emmerdale fans don't need to worry about losing Rhona for long, as she'll be back in the village early next month as the Pierce storyline continues.

Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk WILL name Pierce Harris to the police as her rape storyline continues
Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk will follow through with reporting Pierce Harris to the police when she returns to the village next month.
Rhona was raped by Pierce on their wedding day earlier this week, but she ultimately felt unable to go through with pressing charges against him in emotional scenes.
Although Rhona did visit the police station and a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) – where crucial evidence was gathered – she later returned home to the village without seeing the process through.
Since then, Rhona has headed off away from Emmerdale for a short break, desperate for an escape from Pierce and his evil attempts to torment her further.
Speaking at an Emmerdale press day, show producer Iain MacLeod told Digital Spy and other media where the dark storyline goes from here.
"Ultimately abusers don't stop being abusers because they get caught," he explained. "The result will be that Rhona will ultimately see through the course of action she started this week and we will follow the story through the legal process.
"Within all that, Pierce is a controlling man and the tragic reality of the situation is that those men don't really stop. Therefore we felt a responsibility that we had to show Pierce's behaviour continuing, albeit in a slightly different form.
"We'll be playing it out through and over the summer."
MacLeod added that he ultimately wants the storyline to encourage survivors of rape and sexual abuse to come forward.
He confirmed: "We want this story to get Rhona to a point, and viewers at home who have been through similar to a point, where they feel it's been a positive story to tell rather than a negative one.
"The worst thing we can do as dramatists would be to dissuade people at home who may have experienced this from coming forward and speaking about it.
"We'd hope the opposite is true – that more people come forward and report their experience. We want that outcome for Rhona and the viewer.
"It's a big story for us and comes back in various chapters, with a big story peak in late summer."
Emmerdale star Zoe Henry has revealed new details of Rhona Goskirk's return next week, explaining how she's "absolutely terrified" when she arrives back in the village.
Rhona has decided to take some time away with her young son Leo after the trauma of being raped by her new husband Pierce Harris on their wedding day.
As soon as Rhona arrives back, she lets Paddy Kirk know that her marriage to Pierce is over already – but how long it'll take for her to start confiding in her loved ones with the full story remains to be seen.
Revealing the drama to come, Zoe explained: "Rhona has been in a state of panic after what happened. She's been to Cornwall, not Scotland as planned. She's genuinely terrified about what she's coming back to, and her state of mind is fragile and alone.
"Rhona is absolutely terrified that Pierce might come back. She doesn't know where he is and that's part of the terror: is he going to be in her house? Is he going to have told everybody what happened? Is he going to have made up a pack of lies? She's really unsure of what to expect and that really frightens her.
"It's very difficult for Rhona to step into the house, let alone the lounge where it happened. She makes herself go in with Leo, but she makes sure everything is locked up – the doors are bolted and the windows are locked. She's a woman on the edge, but stepping into that lounge is the hardest thing she's ever done."
As we revealed yesterday, Rhona's best friend Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) comes to see her after Paddy tells her about the split from Pierce. Upon her arrival, she's stunned to see that Rhona has trashed the house and all of the wedding presents.
Zoe continued: "Rhona has kept it all together for Leo's sake, but coming back to the house opens that can of worms again. When she gets to the lounge, she decides to deal with the wedding presents, but there's a gift there from Pierce.
"When Rhona sees that, she snaps and she loses it. She sees that he bought her a wedding night gift, so the wheels come off and she loses it big time.
"Rhona would love to share all of this with someone, namely Vanessa, but their relationship has broken down because of Pierce – to the point where Rhona feels almost responsible.
"It's not that the attack was Rhona's fault, but she feels somehow she brought it on and she could have stopped it. There's a lot of guilt involved with how she's treated Vanessa and she feels very alone.
"I think this is the beginning of Rhona's nightmare. As much as this was an awful ordeal, in some ways it's going to be awful to re-live it – if other people find out, if she tells the police, or if she goes to court. I wonder if Rhona might put it all back into a box and forget about it."

Just hope Rhona's guilt feeling doesn't lead to allowing Pierce back into her life. Should tell Vanessa what happened, I'd bet she'd give Rhona a lot of support. Needs someone to move in with her , get the locks changed and carry a panic alarm. A pressurised can of hair spray at hand might also provide some protection.
I hope she don't fall back to drugs to cope and stays strong and fights Pierce
