Simon Cowell is even closer to signing a deal to take The X Factor to America, according to sources in the US.
The X Factor creator is said to be in talks with TV network Fox over a deal worth £30million a year.
Simon, who is open about his stateside ambitions, may not feature on the judging panel, instead choosing to produce the series from behind the cameras.
The 49-year-old reportedly wants Cheryl Cole on the US panel, along with former American Idol judge Paula Abdul and boy band extraordinaire Louis Walsh.
The negotiations with Fox are also said to include Simon signing on for two more series as a judge on American Idol.
I don't understand how Simon can do X Factor and American Idol at the same time.
At the moment, because X Factor (UK) and AI run at the same time, he has to fly to LA during the week to film AI on a Tuesday and Wednesday then fly back on a weekend to do XF.
He apparently indicated once that he might quit X Factor UK to enable him to do both American shows but I don't know how true that is.
X Factor wouldnt be the same without Simon

Simon Cowell is taking X Factor to the US after hammering out a £65million deal with Fox TV, it was revealed last night.
Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and former American Idol judge Paula Abdul are in the running for the series which Cowell will produce but not star in.
He landed the big-money contract to export the hit ITV show as part of his latest American Idol deal, which struggling Fox has been desperate to renew for a further two years. An insider said: “Simon knew how much they needed him for Idol but there was no deal until they agreed to do X Factor.
“It’s been a long hard slog but we got there.”
Last night Cowell’s spokesman Max Clifford wanted to play down speculation. He said: “No deal has yet been done.” But it is thought Cowell will officially announce the deal to close friends at a party next Saturday for his 50th birthday, which is on October 7.
He earns at least £35million a series for American Idol and it is understood he will earn more than £30million for X Factor.
A source told the Mirror: “The deal has been virtually done for the last two weeks but there are still a couple of loose ends that need to be tied up.
“There has been lots of to-ing and fro-ing but things are pretty much there.”
Dermot O'Leary is apparently being considered to host the US version of The X Factor.
Simon Cowell has reportedly recommended the presenter to bosses at the Fox network, which is developing the show.
O'Leary told the News of the World that he would love to be in the running, although he added that he is focusing all his energy on the UK programme at the moment.
"Obviously I'd love to be considered and work with Simon in the States, but at the moment I'm concentrating on nailing the X this side of the pond. I'm absolutely loving the show and my job, I'm having a blast," he said.
An insider added: "It's a big gamble for Fox because Dermot's unknown in the States. But he comes across as very likeable and he has that common touch, which will definitely appeal to US audiences.
"If the show's a hit, which it will be, he could become a massive star."

Simon Cowell and his business partner Sir Philip Green are reportedly planning to take The X Factor to Las Vegas.
The men told GQ that an international format of the reality talent contest could be available to view on pay-per-view internet TV.
Sir Philip said: "The plan is to take it to Vegas, I'm not going to tell you with who, but the CEO of the venue is coming to see us next week.
"We'll have a permanent place, likely to be Caesar's Palace. The home of X Factor - live from Las Vegas! We'll have a store. And it'll all be online. You have 20, 30, 40 million people tuning in twice a week.
"You bring two or three hundred million viewers to a venue - off we go! It's taking it up a peg. The rest of the world is Part Two."
Cowell added: "I like the model of what Bernie Ecclestone has done [with Formula 1]. The Singapore race is as good as the French race is as good as the English race."
