i said the most realistic soap, i mean at new year 2 of the english soaps had people falling through broken ice and in one a dead body was found, in RC a drunk guy stumbled out onto the road and was killled by hit and run now that is believable. as for the body being rolled into a carpet i dont know im not in the habit of killing people!!

River City, the long-running Scottish soap, has been cancelled by the BBC after 23 years on the small screen.

The show has been telling the stories from the fictional district of Shieldinch in Glasgow?s West End ever since 2002, but the BBC has today announced that the show has been cancelled after over two decades of broadcasting.

The soap, which was created by Stephen Greenhorn, will come to an end in the autumn of 2026, with its cancellation paving the way for three new shows set across Scotland. These will be legal drama Counsels, comedy thriller Grams and coming-of-age book adaptation The Young Team.

?River City has been a wonderful adventure and of course we?ll all be sad to see it go,? said Hayley Valentine, Director of BBC Scotland, in a statement. ?The team have done a brilliant job and I know they have some big plans for the finale next year.

?But as viewing patterns change and competition intensifies, this is the right time to invest in the next generation of high-impact drama series from across Scotland showcasing storytelling across the UK.

?Our goal is to grow Scotland further on the global drama map ? with a slate of world-class productions that set the standard not just here but internationally too,? Valentine continued.

Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning at BBC Scotland, commented on how the soap has been grassroots training for many people aspiring to work in TV in Scotland, as well as an important home-country show for fans.

"The show leaves a tremendous legacy behind,? she concluded.
