It was played 100% for humor! as he said it in a completely jokingly tone. If you think it was anything else, or a stab at Chris's character, then you need to stop taking this show so seriously...

has nate ever shown a fun humorous side before don't think so
Thanks for the advice. I'll take it under consideration since it wasn't at all patronising... http://www.picgifs.com/smileys/smile...ses-738604.gif
For your information, as a UK pace viewer I haven't actually seen the scene in question and can only judge it from what Pantherboy (a forum member I have a lot of time for) wrote.

Thanks for that Dazzle. I will be interested to read UK members views on this scene after it goes to air over there. Having watched it again, I still hold the view that Nate's comment was unnecessary (IMO all he had to say was something like "don't listen to Chris , he was just mucking around", rather than what he did say). If he meant it to be just a joke, I don't know if the others at the table saw it that way, given the awkward sniggers by Kat & Ricky - & I am sure that Kat's friend Pete (who the others had just met for the first time) wouldn't have known he was joking! If Chris had overheard him, he certainly wouldn't have taken it as a joke. That is how I saw it (sorry if I am being too serious guys!)
Having said all that, I agree that such a comment is usually out of character for Nate, & I think that having him say this could be part of their gradual "undermining" of Chris & Hannah to allow her to get back with Andy, (See my post earlier in this thread).
I trust your judgement Pantherboy, and from the way you describe it Nate's comment wasn't nice. Some people in real life like to make horrible comments then pretend it was just a joke, but it doesn't take the sting out of it for the victim of the "joke". It's passive aggressive. It's not in character for Nate to behave that way, although he has been guilty of not taking Chris seriously (when it was appropriate to) in the past.
As for taking the soap too seriously, that's a ludicrous accusation from someone who reads and contributes to a soap forum! We're all guilty to some extent of taking them more seriously than the average viewer or we wouldn't be here, but Nate's comment to Chris (or any other soap scene/storyline) certainly won't keep me up at night! :D
