Coronation Street star Terence Maynard has said that viewers will see more of his character's ruthless side in the aftermath of Tyrone Dobbs's upcoming accident.

The actor's alter ego Tony Stewart will be horrified next week when he hears that Tyrone has fallen through the floor in his new loft conversion due to Todd Grimshaw's dangerous cost-cutting.

Knowing that his son Jason's building business could go under if this situation isn't handled properly, Tony decides to offer Tyrone a compensation payment of £1,000.

Unsurprisingly, Tony fails to mention that the accident was due to the sub-standard materials used, so it remains to be seen whether Tyrone and his partner Fiz Stape will be fooled by him.

Speaking of the upcoming story, Maynard explained: "It's not Tony who has endangered Tyrone, but the company is responsible. Tony didn't instigate it, but what he tries to do is cover it up and smooth things over. That's where Tony comes in with some manipulation!

"The reason for Tyrone being injured is Todd's cutbacks. Tony does like the way Todd operates, but this time he's gone too far. Todd hasn't even discussed what he's doing with Tony.

"Tony has trained Todd to overexaggerate estimates, which he's been doing quite well, but he hasn't told him to cut corners or to ignore building regulations. Tyrone's fall is due to the flooring not being thick enough."

He continued: "Tony knows that he's got to shush this whole thing up, so he comes in as the fixer! It's not as easy to fix as he first anticipated, so it gets drawn out and then you start seeing a little bit more of what Tony will do in this kind of situation. He'll do pretty much anything to sort things out!

"Tyrone is injured and he can't work, so he needs compensation as he's in a bad way. It's Jason's business that Tony is trying to protect here. The reality is that they could get into a lot of trouble for this. The business could be shut down, so Tony tries to buy his way out of it!"

Coronation Street airs Tyrone's accident on Monday, August 25 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

Coronation Street bosses announced Justin Moorhouse's brief stint in the part of Dean earlier this year.

Speaking about the role at the time, Moorhouse said: "I'm delighted to be treading the cobbles. It's always been a dream of mine to appear in the Rovers Return, even though as Dean, landlord of the Flying Horse, I feel like I'm a spy!"
