How Was Your Day? VII

Second day of work tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to it. Its only for two weeks though and I need the money so I have to go. But I'll be counting down the days until next Friday when I finish.

I've had a lazy weekend which I've enjoyed. I caught up on some programs, I read the newspaper and the magazine cover to cover (which I rarely get time for) and I did some baking.

This week has been rather busy. I went to visit a medical school on Thursday, which I'll write more about tomorrow. Right now its time for a book and some sleep :)

ive bin in my job a month, got three weeks left, and im counting the days to Abigail.

The boards seem distant again lately :( we all pop in when we can :p I do love this place.

I have another job at Wetherspoonsss (seems as though I'm always at the place) I start sometime next week, and the manager was really lovely and showed me around, introduced me to people (ost I already know.. aswell as one guy that I actually worked with at Brantano) and she has said she will work their hours around my Brantano hours so I can get used to working there before I decide what I want to do, I'd like to keep both, because I like to work and all that jazz, I just hope it doesn't run me down too much. I'll still go to work a shift at the Commodore too if I'm ever off from the other 2 jobs. My friends say I'm weird because I liek working... but it's just in my nature, the thought of going back to College in September actually makes my tummy turnover. I hate the thought of being stuck in a classroom, stressing over deadlines for another whole year, can't I just work and work my way up? I'm much better at that :(

Anyways, I hope everyone is good, miss you all like crazy xxx

Kirsty.. think with everyone working or on holidays not many come on here.. I am lucky that I have internet access at work and they don't mind me been on here as long as my work is done...

Yeahh, we all work too hard :p haha, and all the lucky ones jetting off to nice sunny hot places, feel free to cram me in your suitcase anyone ;) have you had anymore problems with this idea stealing guy Siobhan? Punch him in the nose :)

don't even get me started on him.. i had another run in with him yesterday, not over idea stealing. We have same manager but different teams and I said I would help out his team on a new application we are going to be using soon. he came over yesterday and start telling me what to do.. I was helping him out, and I do not expect to be treated like this.. I said it to him, this is a favour and don't treat me that way.. he never even said thank you or nothing.. he is an ass, thinks he is the manager of everyone and it is very annoying to be around him

Ughhh, is there no-one you can write a letter of complaint to or anything? Personally... I'd just ignore him, the next time he asks for any help I would tell him to go elsewhere if he thinks it's okay to speak to poeple the way that he does becauese at the end of the day, you treat people how you want to be treated. People with a lack of respect and manners really really wind me up, you deserve a medal for not clouting him yet, I think I would've snapped.

nobody I can go too. he is golden boy for "his" great ideas and getting work done... the funny part is that our manager is really nice and was telling me how much she appreciates me taking time out to help her and the team.. I am working on an audit and taken over a new role... I have had to put up with this guy for nearly 8 years now but he still tends to get to me

Hey guys. I haven't been on as I'm staying with my dad's cousin and she doesn't have the Internet. Found free wifi in a pub so I thought I'd come on and say hi.

I think its safe to say Im back for the summer :)

I know that while I was at uni I started to spend less and less time on here to the point where I would only pop on once every fews weeks
But Ive got about 5 weeks of being at home before off on holiday for a week and then I'll be going back down to exeter :)
Ive been trying to post more :) catching up on loads of stuff and well this place is keeping me busy

Bloody hell Kirsty, you're a workaholic! :p

Not everybody is cut out for formal qualifications and its not easy to figure out what you want to do with life. Do you still want to be a speech therapist? Perhaps it would be a good idea to think seriously about what you want out of life and why you are doing your course at the moment. You seemed so happy when you started it. Dropping out of college is a difficult decision but if you're already dreading going back then maybe it's not the right path for you. Could you make a full time job out of one or both jobs that you have now? Would you be happy to do one or both for the foreseeable future or would you get bored eventually? If you finished the course, would the qualification give you a better chance of getting a good job?

I've been in my job since Friday now. Today was the first day I actually enjoyed it. I talked to my boss quite a bit today and he's actually a decent guy. The majority of the female clerical staff seem to look down their noses at me and don't say anything, its as if I'm just the lowly cleaner. The male managers and the fitters are always friendly though and will say hi and pass the time of day. One of the sales managers actually had a ten minute conversation with me, asking what I was doing and what I wanted to do after uni. He then got the number for the hospital mortuary manager from his previous company so I can get some work experience! This is a guy who I've never met and only knows what I told him about myself in those ten minutes. I was touched that a stranger could see my passion and go out of his way to do something to help. He text me last night to say good luck and he hopes he helped because I deserve it.

My body is in a really bad way though :( I'm laid in bed in pain from standing and walking around since 8am. To add to the pain, I can't sleep at the moment. I don't know if its because subconsciously I'm worried about oversleeping and being late for work or if I'm having another phase of insomnia.

Anywho, back to uni next weekend :D I won't have internet in the house for a few weeks so it'll be trips to the library, which luckily is only two minutes' walk. Final year, it's gone so quick. I don't want it to end.

I now have out 43 items on ebay lol :p I put some on monday night, some yesterday and now some tonight
Ive put quite a lot of ty beanie babies on there, I know it wont all sell, I just hope some of it does, especially some of the beanie babies!

I do love ebay, the only thing I dont like is waiting till the evenings to put stuff on there

I've been brought up around my whole family working for what we have, and working hard, so it's just rubbed off, whereas I know some of my friends grow up around education being the most important thng, to get a degree to get a good job. I guess it just works differently for everyone. They think I'm mad that I would happily work so much, and I think they're mad for sticking out Uni.. haha.

I couldn't be a speech therapist, I'm really not bright enough.
The only reason I was so happy with my course was all because of Adam, it was all for him. As soon as that "relationship" went downhill, everything at College did too because everything there is a constant reminder of him because the restaurant gets brought up a lot.
I want my own pub, so the possibility of working my way up with Wetherpoons is really appealing to me. It's definately possible if I put my mind to it, a guy I worked with at Brantano (who got me the job in Spoons) has been there 3 months and has already been promoted to a shift leader, when 3 months ago he hadn;t even pulled a pint, and all because he worked hard.

You need rest Abigail, don't wear your body out, or you'll never enojy your job, which makes the whole process more tedious xxx

Kristy.. I admire your attitude.. My dad was the same as you, start at the bottom and work up.. I am similar although I really enjoyed my college life too... every job I have done I have started at bottom and within month have been promoted in one way or the other.. For me uni was a lovely learning experience.. I love learning.. if you are not cut out for college life, then do what you are happy doing

Kirsty you should be very proud of yourself that you are hardworking, and not sitting around on their lazy backside all day. Education wasn't for me I left school at 16 because I didn't wan't ito go to college or uni as I didn't know what I wanted to be. I spent 18 years working in a number of jobs before I decided to return to education to get a degree. I've never left a job on bad terms infact a couple of months ago I met an old boss who is in charge of this venue which hold concerts and other events. He is one of the directors. He asked me what I was doing I told him and he said if I needed a job I could have one anytime at his venue. Just because you don't want to be a speech theripst at the moment Kirsty you may change your mind in a couple of years, don't listen to what others say when they say your mad for working it will be a different story when they have no money and you do.

Kathy.. I was same as you.. I didn't go to Uni til I was 26.. at 16 I was way to young to decide what I wanted to be or do so I just did loads of jobs until I found one I liked

I've been through every job there is... physio, speech therapist, primary school teacher, restaurant manager. I just don't know... getting us to make our subject choices at 15/16 was really hard, expecially for the ones who didn';t know what they wanted to do, just seems so rushed. I would happily get up at 6 am for work and not get in until stupid o clock at night, to get up and do the same the next day. I feel so lost with all this career stuff lately.

On another note... I am soooooooo peeved off!!! I went to the bank just now to see if I could get a £100 overdraft just to tie me over until money starts coming in in 2 weeks from my 2nd job. Their reply: well you're not good enough for a £100 overdraft..... but we will happily give you a £1000 personal loan... Uhhhhh no thanks. Is that because they would pocket a ton of interest from me?

Yeah!! that is exactly it.. I have a permanent 500 euro overdraft and keep getting offered 10 grand loans (same day approved) from my bank.. sometimes it is so tempting but I know I will probably pay back twice as much and it will take years

It was so tempting, £1000 there and then, but I said to the bank worked, i don't need £1000 i would just waste it being a teenage girl, get myself into trouble and ruin my credit rating... which I do not see the point in doing. They wanted £52 something a month for 2 years. No thankyou.... if I'd have had that grand... it would've been gone well before then so I just saw it as completely pointless, all I needed was the money to pay a £70 bill haha x

I joined the gym today and swam a mile, so now I feel really good :)

Im so tired though and Im dancing in the morning
Its really werid how it just doesnt feel like the summer hols anymore, I think its cos Ive been back so long and the fact that I went away earlier this year but at the same time im enjoying it a bit more cos im busier now and even when im not, with this gym membership I can go to the gym when I feel and swim so I can keep busy

I'm back to work on Monday after two weeks off. Not done much as the wheather was rubbish. I could have sworn I asked my sb buddies to send me some sunshine? Awaiting the arrival of baby Skye she is due tomorrow but looks like she will be staying put for a few more days.

I shall be sending some sun over from Spain in a week!!! lol

Well that's not much use is it. The schools are back next week. Holiday time will be over for Scotland.

Its the weekend! i have had such a rubbish week at work im realy looking forward to it!

Going to watch my beloved Manchester City on Sky in a bit and then this evening head to my mates and stop over there for a bit.Maybe watch a film and have a catch up looking forward to it.

I'm in a pickle :( Spoons have offered me 25+ hours, and wondered how I would feel about handing my notice in Brantano... I'm for it if I'm honest, I feel liek I will get alot more out of Spoons, and it's weekly pay, and it's still the Hospitality Industry. BUT.... I don't think 25+ hours would work around College... but I don't even want to go back, but then I don't think my Nan woudl want me to ditch my college course and I don't think she would be too happy, which is rubbish because I want my family to be proud of me, but I don't want to be unhappy in doing so.... i feel liek I can't win haha and I need to talk to my Nan maybe?

You should talk to your nan kirsty, what are you doing at college kirsty?

My advice would be stick with college till the course is finish even if your not going to use the course in the near future, the only reason I say this Is I have a friend whos gone to a proper performing arts school near london and at college she did a business BTEC so if her west end dream doesnt happen she has something to fall back on, even though its really different, my other friend dropped out of her performing arts school and has nothing to fall back on apart from her GCSEs

Abbie, although I agree that college course is something to fall back on, I can also see Kirsty's point of view in this, why should she go back to do something that doesn't interest her, it will be a waste of her time and money. Kirsty, i am sure you Nan would be proud of you no matter what you do.. it is a tough choice you have to make but it is your choice. At the end of the day, your nan is not going to work for you so you should do something you like. It is probably just me and the way I am but I rather work for a pittance doing something I love then try do something I hate no matter how much money is involved

It's a Hospitality and Hotel Management course Abbie, so it's about what goes on in the environment I'll be working in, but I absolutely hate my course, not so much my course, but the tutor, who messes us all around and I don't want to put up with another year of that. Though I do see your point of having something to back me up. I'm not sure if I'll even get back in because I got behind and lost track big time last year. So I'm thinking, at the moment, to take pieces of everyones advice. Go to enrolment, and if they let me back in, stick it out, it's only one more year, and if they don't let me back in then I have no problem with going out to work and figuring out some way to work my way up because I love to do that anyways. I did briefly mention it to my Nan earlier, but I had literally opened my eyes haha, she didn't seem very happy, but told me to speak to her later... when i was actually awake haha

Nan are like that.. my mum wasn't at all happy when my niece dropped out but my niece said she wasn't learning anything, her tutor messed her around and it wasn't something she enjoyed doing..

Exactly, it makes it worse that I live with my Nan too, she feels like she is responsible for making me as close to perfect as she can to please my Mum and Dad, but my Mum and Dad don't mind, they're always telling me to just do what makes me happy.

I agree with your parents Kirsty, you have to do what makes you happy. I can see both sides of it, on the one hand you've only got one year left (less than a year as you'll finish around May/June) but if you're really not enjoying it, you're going to have a bloody hard year getting motivated to do the work. It's a tough decision, maybe you do need to enrol and see if things improve before you make a firm decision to leave college. You've got about four week of the holidays left so I'd take the job on the proviso that you can work your hours around college in September and perhaps drop a few if you do decide to stay. That does depend on if you feel up to doing a full time college course, working 25hrs, doing college work and still seeing friends.

Anyone in Portsmouth next week? I am heading over there for work but I am sure the evenings will be mine to do as I please.. will be there from Monday to Friday (well Sunday night)

The results were low across the board and didn't make sense with the previous units. My units were AAAD and I find that very hard to believe. It's my strongest subject and that bought it down to a B. Also got a B in General Studies and A's in Business and Economics.

Its best that you make sure your mark is correct now rather than think later on that you should have had a remark.
