Jake woke up in a cold sweat. His heart was beating. Chrissie was gone. He just knew it. He was in a hospital room. Nana was sitting on a chair beside him sleeping. He shook her gently.
"Nana, wake up." He whispered.
"Oh Jake." She said. "We thought we'd lost you."
"What about Chrissie? She's gone isn't she?" He said quietly, shaking his head.
"No, no she's fine. If it wasn't for her you wouldn't be alive."
"And what about Den?"
"Well when Chrissie came back he found her but then Alfie came and he fought with him and Den eventually died."
"What so he's gone?" He said, not believing what he'd heard.
"Yes. They aren't going to charge Alfie because he didn't actually kill him."
"What did Chrissie do? I mean you said I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for her."
"She sat with you and talked to you and did the best she could to make sure you didn't die. And it worked."
"I could hear her. She was calling my name. I followed her voice and that's when I woke up here."
She smiled.
"That's love for you."

"I don't love her." He sighed, "Not after what she did. With him."
Nana looked at Jake.
"She never wanted you to feel like this. I can tell." She said softly.
"And what about Alfie? He knew what could happen but he still did it."
"I don't know why it happened, but I know Alfie hates himself for what he did."

Jake was soon allowed out of the hospital after that. Johnny had asked him to collect Ruby and take her to the club. He walked through the doors and saw Chrissie. He hadn't seen her since the night he'd almost died. Ruby went into Johnny's office. They both stood in silence for a while.
"I'm sorry. About both what I did and what happened to you." She said, breaking the silence.
He sighed.
"It doesn't matter how many times you say it. It doesn't change anything."
"I know, I know. I just wish there was some way I could repay you."
He swallowed.
"You can't."
"It kills me to see you like this. I just hate myself for it." She said, a few tears escaping from her eyes.
"Don't." He whispered.
"Jake, I can't help it. I hate how I've hurt you." She walked over to him. " I love you."
He fell silent. Stunned. She started to walk back to the bar but he caught her arm.
"Chrissie I-" He hesitated. "I've always loved you."

Jake stop being so bloody arrogant :rolleyes: But awww :wub: Love is in the air... every breath and *doesn't know the rest of the words* Fabbydoodlerooney! More sooney please :) x
