I guess they are trying to drag this tale out for a bit longer. If Cain had followed the van he would have found out about John.

"Hello, I'm a random stranger here to pack up Nates things".

"Yes go right ahead, I'll just wait downstairs fuming while you help yourself to whatever you fancy."

Do the writers give the viewers any credit at all?
