Danny Dyer thinks it it makes it authentic East End, tho' when I worked in the East End I rarely heard anyone using more than a word or two of rhyming slang certainly not to the extent that he does. I think he makes a lot of it up himself. He really annoys me, with his swagger, "look at me" style of acting. I am glad he is going to be off the screen for a while.

As an Eastenders myself, I agree that Danny Dyer does overdo it. Having said that, I have to say that my dad used to use a lot of rhyming slang, though not quite as much as Dyer. I also think it is more of an older generation thing and is not used so mulch these days, certainly not to the extent Dyer does. Though, I also have to say, that I haven't heard anything he's said that isn't "real" rhyming slang, i.e., it's not made up by him.
Mind you, I haven't watched Eastenders for getting on for well over three months now. So perhaps it's got worse.
