'X Factor' faces favouritism claims over Hope
Sunday, November 25 2007, 12:02 GMT
By Daniel Kilkelly
X Factor contestants believe that girl group Hope are receiving special treatment from producers, according to a report.
The remaining finalists are unhappy that Hope have been given extra rehearsal time with choreographer Brian Friedman and the show's vocal coach.
An insider told the Daily Star Sunday: "It seemed as if their mentor Simon Cowell was pulling strings to try and keep them in.
"It could be that - because there are five of them - they need the extra rehearsal time. But the general feeling is that each act should be treated the same, regardless of the number of members. The 'favouritism' certainly ruffled a few feathers with the other contestants."
Hope were in the bottom two for the third time last night. However, Beverley Trotman was voted off when the judges' vote went to deadlock and producers reverted back to the viewer votes.
The source said: "Beverley has impressed everyone but it was still Hope who stayed. Questions will be asked. It was the opportunity to get rid of them once and for all."
X Factor's Sarah seeks girlfriend for Sean

By Kimberley Dadds
The X Factor's Sarah from sibling group Same Difference has revealed that she wants to find her brother Sean a girlfriend.
The group is mentored by judge Simon Cowell in the singing competition and is one of five acts still remaining in the contest.
Sarah said of her sibling: "He needs a girlfriend, so I’d like to launch an appeal to find someone who’s up for the job… and ha ha, believe me, it is a job!"
But she also insisted that whomever her older brother dates has to be approved by her first. She said: "I vet all his girlfriends anyway, she needs to have the Sarah nod of approval. If she’s a meanie, I’ll know, and I’ll give him That Look."
X Factor': Beverley Trotman
Monday, November 26 2007, 14:00 GMT
By Nick Levine, Entertainment Reporter
Has your jaw come up from the floor yet? After her rendition of 'Without You' was lavished with praise by all four judges, Beverley Trotman's passage into the final five seemed assured. It was surprising when she wound up in the bottom two, shocking when the judges voted 2:2 to force a 'deadlock' situation, and bury-your-head-in-the-sofa unbelievable when Dermot revealed that Hope had polled more votes than her. We hooked up with the so-called "voice of the competition" to find out how she's coping with her unexpected elimination. Clue: she's not exactly sobbing into her pillow right now.
How are you bearing up today?
"I'm absolutely fine. Last night I presented an award at the BAFTA Children's Awards, and Daniel Craig came on soon after me to do the same, so I was like 'Wooow!' It was a lovely way of getting over Saturday."
Were you surprised by Saturday's result?
"Well, there were only six people left in the competition so I couldn't be too surprised. People have often said to me that I was the voice of the competition, so I did think I might have gone another couple of weeks, if I'm honest. I definitely had another couple of weeks left in me."
You got fantastic comments from the judges again this week. Why do you think your performance didn't connect quite as much with the public?
"Well, perhaps because I was the first on, and perhaps because people thought I'd be safe and didn't need to vote for me. I don't really know, but I would really like to thank everyone who did vote for me."
The first act to perform is eliminated more often than you'd think - it's almost becoming an X Factor curse. How do the producers decide the show's running order?
"I don't know. We do our Friday soundchecks in a planned order, but then it's always liable to change. We find out on Friday evening whether it's changed or not."
When it came down to the bottom two, why do you think Sharon chose to save Hope instead of you? Was she trying to force a deadlock?
"I think so, yeah. I think she thought something else might have happened and it didn't quite work out. I think she thought that I had more votes than Hope, but I don't know. You know what, she's been behind me every week so I don't hold anything against her."
When you found out you'd been eliminated, you thanked Simon almost as much as you thanked Louis. Why was that?
"Because Simon did have a hand in a couple of my song choices, and he always supported me. He mentioned he didn't like my outfit once, but twice he gave me performance of the night and twice he said I made the song really special. He's the main man and he championed me through the show, so of course I had to thank him."
Did Simon advise you a lot through the competition?
"He just helped with a couple of my songs, but Louis was very much hands on. He was always on the phone, asking me if I was happy with the song and how my preparation was going. Then obviously he'd work with me during the rehearsals on Thursday and Friday."
Did you learn much from your X Factor experience?
"Absolutely! I learned a lot about myself, about my singing and about how strong I can be. My confidence grew so much and I really hope this is the start of a new chapter in the life of Beverley Trotman."
Do you wish you'd done anything differently?
"No. Hindsight's a great thing, but what is the point? I'm happy with the decisions I made at the time."
Was there any song you really didn't want to sing?
"I really wasn't sure about 'You're Beautiful', the James Blunt song, but everyone's told me that I did a really good job with it. James Blunt sent me a signed CD afterwards so it wasn't all bad!"
What's your plan now? Are you going to return to teaching?
"Well, I'm taking a year or two out now, so I'm really looking towards theatre, children's TV, choirs and just anything that might come my way. I'm really open-minded about it all - I'm so excited by whatever the next challenge might be!"
So The X Factor really has changed your life?
"I think so. I passed by KFC yesterday - don't tell anybody - and as soon as I walked in everybody rushed up to me and said 'We love you! You were robbed!' It really made me smile and realise it was all worth it."
Who are you backing to win now?
"It's a difficult one, because I never knew how competitive Simon is. When he's judging someone else's contestant, he always puts a negative comment in there however positive he feels about the performance. He just has to do it! There's actually a possibility that Hope might be in the final now. I'd love for Niki to win, but I don't think she will, because I think Rhydian and Leon have the edge at the moment."
does anyone know what next week's theme is yet?
hmmm well this will be an interesting week.......
Kylie: 'Simon and Dannii have chemistry'
Tuesday, November 27 2007, 13:40 GMT
By Kimberley Dadds
Kylie Minogue has claimed that there is definitely some chemistry between her sister Dannii and her fellow X Factor judge Simon Cowell.
Ever since the Australian singer took up the role of judge on this year's X Factor series there has been speculation about the relationship between Minogue and Cowell.
Last week Simon was photographed holding Dannii's hand and now her sister Kylie has speculated about a possible romance, saying: "Why wouldn’t Simon fancy Dannii?
"If I’m not mistaken there is definitely a little fizzle there."
'X Factor' champion to record Mariah song

This year's X Factor champion will bid for the Christmas number one spot with 'When You Believe', a song made famous by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.
Songwriter Stephen Schwartz has tweaked the song's lyrics especially for the winner of the ITV1 talent show.
Carey and Houston recorded 'When You Believe' as the theme song for The Prince of Egypt in 1998. It went on to reach number four in the UK singles chart.
The X Factor champion will release 'When You Believe' on December 17.
I am in shock that Beverly left the competition my jaw fell to floor when i watched the sunday repeat.
I saw Hope performance and i did not think it was anything special, i do not really listen to Christina Aquerilla but one thing is for sure is that girl can sing and i actually really like the song `Hurt`i think the lyrics are very sad and powerful.
I am disappointed that Simon Cowell choose a song like this for the group for one i think its a one person ballad not a 5 piece? i also think by giving this type of song to a group of 5 eliminates the other 4 with them being stuck with doing harmonies and not being able to show off there talents as a group.
While i think Phoebe has a okay voice i thought that song was to big for.
Oh okay thanks Abi did not know that hopefully this week the girls will take Simon advice. :)
This week's songs!
Week 15 Live show 7 - two songs each!
UNION JACK TRACKS
The final five take on tunes that made Britain great... that's two tracks per artist for the audience - not the judges - to cast their vote on!
HOPE WE WILL ROCK YOU
HOPE 2 BECOME 1
LEON THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD
LEON CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE
NIKI TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART
NIKI FIELDS OF GOLD
RHYDIAN SOMEBODY TO LOVE
RHYDIAN I VOW TO THEE MY COUNTRY/WORLD IN UNION
SAME DIFFERENCE WAKE ME UP BEFORE YOU GO GO
SAME DIFFERENCE ANY DREAM WILL DO
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
so what do we think?
i think both of Hope's are atrocious and this will hopefully be the final nail in the Hope coffin.
Leon will be really good at The Long And Winding Road but i'm a bit wary at Crazy Little Thing- why are they trying to turn him into Ray anyway?!
Niki should be able to cary Total Eclipse
Rydian will rock Somebody To Love right out of the park, can't wait! i don't know the other one alas, or maybe i do but just don't know the name
Same Difference, Any Dream Will Do feels like a mistake, but Wake Me Up Before You Go Go should be great- i hope they do that one second!
And once again Nicki does a ballad, she is turning into a one trick pony and I am getting slightly fed up now.
Hope have to go this week they should have gone along time ago
Ben Mills did "somebody to love" last year.. it was fantastic..
'X Factor' group hit by conflict
Friday, November 30 2007, 12:47 GMT
By Nick Levine, Entertainment Reporter
Brother/sister duo Same Difference have been plagued by tension as they prepare for their seventh X Factor live show.
Sean Smith became annoyed when his sister Sarah went out for dinner on Sunday night, the day before they were due to record the X Factor winner's single, their version of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston's 'When You Believe'.
He was particularly concerned that his sister had failed to perfect the group's harmonies for the song.
Sean also became frustrated when Sarah refused to tidy her room in the X Factor house, insisting that her messy surroundings will "clutter her mind".
However, Sarah remained defiant in the face of her brother's badgering, saying: "My mind's not cluttered and why should I tidy [my room]? It's my room! And if I didn't spend all my time cooking, cleaning and washing for you, I would have time to!"
Looking forward to Rhydian doing them songs :cheer:. Hope, doing Spice Girls? Oh dear. Niki should be good at Total Eclipse of the Heart.
Yeah, those are good choices for Rhydian - he is a natural showman, so should carry off the Queen/Freddie number with ease.
Oh dear, I dont think much of Hopes choices....especially doing a cover of another girl band's song. I HOPE they go out this week!!!
Sometimes I don't know where the judges get their comments from.
I don't know how Dannii thought Niki's performance last week was out of tune the whole way because I've listened to it a few times and although there was a few off notes, on the whole it was fantastic.
Loved Louis' comment about Dannii's songs being out of tune.
Poor poor performance from Hope :nono:
I apologise to No Difference (Sorry) Same Difference fans but to both performances tonight....
Hope - What did they wear at the first performance? Looked like dressed up potato sacks to me, sorry again to people who liked it.
The rest were brilliant!
Really good show tonight, loved the judges being at each other's throats and most of the performances.
Leon really is the dark horse of the competition I think, his performances have improved so much and I loved his second performance especially, I hope he is back next week. Niki was also brilliant as usual and she deserves to be back next week, Same Difference did a fantastic performance of Any Dream Will Do but their 2nd performance was way too cheesy for my liking. Rhydian was exceptional as he always is and Hope (Well i'm sure you all know what I'm going to say about them. :D ) but i think they should go tonight, not only because I thought their performances were poor, but also because I want Simon Cowell to lose one of his acts. :)
Hope will go tonight I reckon.
I thought Rhydian was really good tonight. He did better on his second song. I thought that was awesome.
Hope actually sucked. Both times.
Nikki was alright. Loved her doing Fields of Gold.
Same Difference were awesome. They are so cheesy but I love them.
Leon I can't remember much about so can't have been that great for me.
Anyway, who went???????????? Please say Hope.
Hope went, Simon was not a happy bunny :p
YAAAAY! So pleased with that result :p.
But poor Simey. I'll make him happy :p.
who were they up against?
Were they up against anyone? I didn't see the results, but it was not a judges vote so I assumed they just wittled it down till it got to the one who went???
The last two acts were Hope and Same Difference, with Same Difference winning a place in next week semi-finals
As much as I love Same Difference I don't think they deserve to win. But I do want them to do well in the future. I would buy and album by them and I'm not even joking . Rhydian and Same Difference are actually the only ones left I would buy an album by.
I think the bottom two next week will be between Same difference and Leon with Same difference winning a place in the final alongside Rhydian and Nicky. My predictions for this years competition are:
1st Rhydian
2nd Nicky
3rd Same difference
4th Leon
I shall not miss them. :nono:
Same Difference will go next week.
Leon - 3rd Place
Niki - 2nd Place
Rhydian - Winner.
So glad Hopeless have gone, the tuning in that first song hurt my ears, and it actually showed how good the spice girls actually are.
Louis Walsh comments about Dannii were funny, it was twice wasnt it, have you ever had a hit single and you cant talk about tuning.
