Oh I missed my 6th birthday by a week, can I still have the bubbly, cake, choc, sweeties, etc????
Well the sun's out. So it paint the kitchen, or do some gardening. I think the latter.
Anyone got any hints/tips on dealing with stress.. my levels have gone through the roof.. Found out that I am due to have another audit starting mid may and going into July. Also during this time I have to training 2 new people (2 of my team going on maternity leave) and pack my house up for moving to Germany by end of July... while still trying to do my regular job.
I know this is happening mid May but I currently have the most laziest person on my team.. doesn't ask question about how to do anything so when it come to the deadline she then said she can't do it and take sick days.. she has had about 12 since January... This leaves me covering her work.. The other guys on the team don't mind helping but they too are getting sick of having to do her work for her... She is one of the girls who is leaving so I just keep getting told "oh she is leaving soon" but that doesn't help me now.. I am still pretty new to this job (only here 6 months) and have so much work to do it is unreal. (yes I know I am on here but this is my escape. .if I didn't come on here I think I would totally crack up)..
So there you have it.. tough job, home to kids who are typical brother and sister and can't be in the same room together for more than 2 mins before they start fighting.. so any hints/tips (that doesn't involve much effort  ) is very much appreciated
You could try breathing exercises. The best one I have been recommended (by a life coach) is to breathe in for a count of 7 and then out for a count of 12. You really expel all the air from your lungs and can feel yourself deflating. You are supposed to repeat this about 5 -10 times, and I find it best to be in a room alone.
I have tried transcendental meditation, but it didn't do anything for me at all, was blooming expensive too. Yoga, is okay but it isn't always easy to get to classes. Pilates - I just wobble too much, but it works for some people. A walk at lunch-time is also good - sunlight and getting away from the root cause of the stress.
Personally, one that I wish I had done a long time ago (before it was too late, which it is now for me) is to train your kids to help in the house, i.e. not to leave everything at their backside, to keep their room tidy, put their dishes in the dishwasher etc etc.
Shiv your really getting it from all ends aren't you babes. Both work and stress at home need to be sorted out sepratley. We'll start with work. If the staff you have working for you have been in the office longer than you then they should know the Audit process and should know what needs to get dbe doone unless they're are trying to be awkward. Make a list of what has to be done before May and alocate jobs to your team don't try and do everything yourself. DELEGATE!!!! Firstly start with Miss Lazy Ar$e, if she is hopeless give her the crappy office junior jobs nothng to complicated, but don't give her them all at once, give her little piles of work to do at a time. When she is finished one job praise her and say nicely can I ask to do this wee job for me now. With the capable members of your team if you can give them more responsibilites to free your time to train new staff or ask them to help with the training while you organise the Audit.
As for home (Ignore this piece of advice) Lock kids in room let them knock 10 bells out of each other. They'll stop when they get hurt. Joking :D Trin is right try and get them involved with attempting to tidy their mess. If you tell them how work is making you really tired and it would be a big help if they could help you by trying to play nice and not fight all the time. because you hate yelling at them all the time. Good lick.
Now does someone want to come a sort out my stress I'm great at giving advice but rubbish at taking it.
You have both been great... Trinity, yeah I think I left it too late with the kids too.. I am forever telling them to clean up, tidy their room.. Kath, locking them in a room might be a good thing (joking)... Like you.. I am probably better at given advise than taking it.
As for work.. Thankfully that girl is leaving before we even start the audit so one less headache to worry about. I will be getting the new guys training in on the audit so the rest of the others will be doing normal job.. Those guys are great and will do anything I ask... For now I just have to put up with that lazy ass cow.. Ok, she is pregnant and I have made allowances for her at the start until I saw a pattern develop.. she was only "sick" when I took a vacation (only 2 days this year) or just before a deadline was due.. for past 3 weeks I have only given her 1 thing to do.. just 1 thing, nothing too hard and she still hasn't finished it.. I had to extent the target date on her project.. surely, even when pregnant you can manage 1 thing???? It is not like I have involved her in any of the other work that can't have extension.. The other girl who is pregnant has been helping me there and she manages it fine... Actually, the lazy cow tried to get her to do the 1 thing I asked.. now that is bloody lazy...
I think I just need a rant, a scream and a kick in the **** to get me back motivated.. I do love my job and every day I come in with a smile on my face and a positive attitude.. by end of the day I just want to crawl under a rock.. I have told the kids that I may have a big rant and rave but it due to work and not them so if they can help anyway they can it would help.. fingers crossed for all this kicking off...
Well, I am on strike today, second strike in two weeks...
I voted against the strike, but in favour of action up to but not including strike action.
I really hate the way the media portray the strike action, this is not about pay it is about pensions. University academic and academic related staff pay into the USS pension fund, this fund is fully funded and currently in surplus. We have agreed to increasing the pension age of women to 65 and to increasing contributions to 7.5% (from 6.35%). This should be enough to ensure that the pension fund stays in surplus.
The thing I personally am unhappy about is the linking of the pension age to the government old age pension age - this means that as things stand I will not get a pension until I am 66, but the gov website tells us that they intend to increase the old age pension age to 68.
My kids generation are going to find all the good jobs blocked by folk in their late 60s who would prefer to be retired or at least work part-time. Their Career Average Pensions will therefore be even lower than the ones the government are trying to force people to accept now.
This issue affects everyone.
Don't believe the 'gold plated public pensions crap'.
Local government and education staff pay into pension schemes that are fully funded.
Police and firemen etc pay high rates (over 11% of their salary) which the government takes -AND DOESN"T INVEST. this means that every policeman's pension is paid from general taxation -even though they have paid through the nose for it. This is hardly the policeman's fault.
Civil servants pay nothing, or for newish staff very little (3%) for their pension - they should pay the same as everyone else and the media should stop lumping all 'public service' pensions under one umbrella.
/end rant!
When is Mr Parkerman back from his holidays? i have a gripe. He needs to sack his PR team. I went onto the Waterstone's website to print out the title of his book as I wanted to buy it. It says on the website that his book can be found in the History/Transport section. So off I took myself into town to buy the book. Afterwards wandering around both the history and transport sections for 20 minutes I gave up couldn't find the book. So I went to the till to ask a very nice young Geordie girl. She checked on the system to see if it was in stock. And do you know what???? Waterstone's in Scotland are not stocking Mr Parkerman's book. What is all that about. They had to order me a copy personally I will get it next week. Why your book not selling north of the border Lord Parkerman. Anyway to console myself I bought a copy of Game of Thrones while I was there.
