Katherine Kelly has revealed that her new short hairstyle will fit in with her Coronation Street character's forthcoming adoption storyline.
The actress, who plays Weatherfield hellraiser Becky McDonald, got rid of her long locks last month and recently showed off her new look at the Royal Television Society awards.
Speaking to Holy Soap about her image change, Kelly explained: "It was kind of a decision that was forced upon us. My hair is naturally almost black - I'm typical Irish colouring, with green eyes, almost black hair and pale skin.
"I was blonde for a job for two years before I got Corrie and have been here for four years so that's six years of bleaching my hair.
"It was slowly getting thinner and thinner so we packed it out with extensions to keep it thick, but my hairdresser said I couldn't keep putting in extensions indefinitely."
To explain the change, viewers will soon see Becky visiting Audrey's salon as part of an image overhaul she plots after deciding that she wants to adopt a child.
Kelly confirmed: "With the adoption storyline, she borrows Claire Peacock's clothes for a while because she wants to look good for the social worker coming round. We thought it was a good opportunity for her to have a slight image change.
"I love Becky with long hair and if it could have been possible I'd have kept her with long blonde hair forever but sometimes nature and practicalities take over!"

Coronation Street star Vicky Entwistle has revealed that she would like Janice Battersby to rediscover some of her troublesome old ways.
The actress admitted that she relished scenes which depicted her character as a "nightmare" to be around when the Battersby clan first joined Weatherfield in 1997.
She told Inside Soap: "We assaulted other characters during our first week on set - it was fabulous. I'd love to be the nightmare neighbour again."
Entwistle added that she would also love to see the return of Les (Bruce Jones) and Toyah (Georgia Taylor) Battersby if screen daughter Leanne marries Peter Barlow as reported last month.
She explained: "If rumours in the press about a possible wedding for Peter and Leanne are to be believed, I'd love Bruce to come back so Les can give her away.
"Georgia's doing so well in Casualty, so I'm not sure she'd be able to commit to Corrie long-term. But it would be great for the Battersbys to be reunited for one episode."
-
Georgia would be mad to turn her back on casualty to save Janices bacon. Bruce (Les) on the other hand would jump at the chance to return as Les Battersby but the public don't want him.
-
I would not mind Les Battersby to come back :)

FURIOUS Corrie stars demanded a meeting with bosses over rumours that Jordan's hubby Alex Reid was to join the cast.
An internet article saying the cage-fighter would soon be on the cobbles was pinned to a notice board at the ITV studios.
Senior actors were horrified, saying he would devalue the soap's tradition. But they calmed down when they were told it was just a prank. An insider said: "They all went potty, but everyone saw the funny side in the end."

Coronation Street cleared over arson plot
Alex Diaz - Manchester Evening News
APRIL 14, 2010
Coronation Street has been cleared of inciting crime after an arson plot sparked a flurry of complaints.
Television watchdog Ofcom found the ITV soap not in breach of broadcasting regulations after an episode depicted loan shark Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) setting fire to Tina MacIntyre's flat.
The contentious episode featured bad boy Neelan attacking Tina (Michelle Keegan) and then-boyfriend Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) over an outstanding debt.
In the on-screen drama, Rick set fire to a newspaper and put it through Tina's letterbox.
Ofcom received 32 complaints after the episode was broadcast.
Of these, 31 claimed that Corrie had incited and encouraged crime, while one complained about its portrayal of dangerous behaviour.
By finding the programme not in breach of regulations, Ofcom deemed that the episode was 'not likely to encourage or incite the commission of crime or lead to disorder'.
It is not the first time that the long-running soap has faced complaints over violent scenes in recent years.
In September 2008 some fans were upset by a scene showing girl-on-girl gang violence, involving undercover police officers Mel Morton (Emma Edmondson) and Abi Sharpe (Rachael Elizabeth).
Ofcom also rejected 77 complaints about a debate on GMTV about breastfeeding older children, aired on January 28.
How Pathetic!
-
FGS, Tina and Jason did not come to any harm and a loan shark would use those tactics to get his money, that is not inticing anybody, surely  And police officers do sometimes get hurt in fights, also true to life, the same as is breast feeding

as one guy commented under the article, if these people dont like seeing violence then they mustnt watch the news. thats exactly what i thought, when i read the headline i culdnt think to what storyline it was referring to.

Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent has exchanged phone numbers with Manchester City footballer Adam Johnson, according to a report.
The actress, who plays Weatherfield teen Sophie Webster, was apparently impressed by Johnson when she met him at Fashion Kicks 2010 on Tuesday night.
Johnson and a group of his team-mates modelled clothes at the Manchester charity event, while Vincent watched on from the audience.
A source told The Sun: "Brooke was impressed with the midfielder's cheeky stint on the catwalk."
The insider added: "Brooke got chatting with Adam afterwards and they swapped numbers. He charmed the pants off her. There are definitely legs in this."
Vincent's Weatherfield co-stars Sacha Parkinson (Sian Powers), Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor) and Craig Gazey (Graeme Proctor) were also in attendance at the show.
