Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis)

Coronation Street star Marc Baylis has praised his exit from the soap, saying he is glad his character Rob Donovan went out with a bang.

Rob was finally arrested for Tina McIntyre's murder during last night's episode (November 5) after months of trying to shift the blame.

In a dramatic twist, it was his jilted fiancée Tracy (Kate Ford) who was responsible for his arrest.

As Rob waited for Tracy, believing they were going on the run together, she betrayed him by reporting him to the police.

Speaking in a video on Coronation Street's official website, Baylis said: "I have had an absolute blast. It's been an awesome time and I am going to miss everyone a lot.

"It's a very dramatic ending. It is nice to be going out with a bang."

Baylis also said that he believes viewers have empathised with Rob despite his murder of Tina earlier this year.

He added: "The response to Tina's exit was actually a lot more positive than I thought it would be. I thought I was going to be getting abuse left, right and centre. Weirdly, it took Rob into the audience's hearts in a way.

"They empathised with him because it wasn't a planned thing. It was an event that was quick and could happen. It's been a good challenge."

It wouldn't surprise me at all. He's bound to be sentenced to more than the 15 years Peter got, so the writers will have to be very inventive to plausibly get him back for more than a couple of episodes.

Maybe he will come back as a long lost twin they did'nt know about

If we dont see any of the trial or any prison
scenes-it may be to leave it open for
some appeal against procedures/evidence
etc to be successful. As was the case when
Tracey was released- after appeal.Tho
some of trial was shown -I think.
Not showing it makes it easier to re-write
the history.
In the meantime Rob will be serving his
sentence.
Not very moral , believable or just perhaps
-but this is a soap.!

Marc Baylis has agreed to reprise his role as Rob for an exciting storyline, which will see the villain calling the shots from his prison cell.

After spending a year behind bars for the murder of Tina McIntyre, Rob will decide to start shaking up life on the Street once again by sending out visiting orders for a number of the residents.

Exactly what Rob has up his sleeve remains to be seen, but show bosses are teasing that he could hold the key to a huge Connor family secret that he may be able to use to his advantage.

Speaking of his shock Coronation Street comeback, Baylis commented: "I can't wait to play Rob again and see what he has up his sleeve. One thing is certain - prison won't stop Rob from affecting lives on the street."

Rob's reappearance will come just as his ex-partner Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) is trying to move on from their turbulent relationship.

Tracy has recently grown close to her ex-husband Robert Preston once again, but which of the two Robs really holds the key to her heart?

The big new storyline will also play out after viewers have been introduced to a new branch of the Connor family, led by former X Factor winner Shayne Ward as Michelle's distant cousin Aidan.

Baylis was last seen on Coronation Street in November last year, but show bosses had always made it clear that he could return further on down the line.

Would not surprise me if the next one is Callum after getting banged up for something or other

Keep a good story( or even just passable one)
and flog it to death!
I dont mind seeing Rob again- particularly
if upsets Tracy!
