Before the days of Stuart Turner and after the days of Kate Maltby there was Phil Hunter and Samantha Nixon. It was hard for Sam to be friendly with Phil again after the way he'd dropped her for Kate but he'd realised his mistake and had finished with Kate. They still had their little boy that was going to come along but he didn't want Kate. He wanted the baby but someone else had stolen his heart. And without knowing it, he'd stolen her heart too. But he'd also torn her heart up and thrown it back in her face a few times.

Sam told herself that they were just friends but with her other male friends she didn't melt at their smile. Quiver at their touch. Cry when they acted like an **** although she wouldn't admit it. She tried to ignore the sexual tension between them but even their arguments were filled with chemistry amnd hidden feelings. Sam felt like an idiot for feeling that way about Phil. He was her friend and she thought she was treating him bad by thinking about him all the time.

Phil would watch her across the room and watch every little thing she'd done. After the last time when Phil had hurt her Sam had refused to fall in love with him. She was scared of him hurting her yet again, she could only take so much even though she seemed to soak pain up like a sponge. But then again, it was always Phil who wringed her out and released her of the pain she was keeping. He would offer her support and a hug whenever she needed one and ... no, she didn't love him. She doesn't, honestly she doesn't.

At the end of shift Sam stood unlocking her car when Phil walked over.

"Look, I'm sorry about that whole Kate thing. It's just my mum was pushing me to marry her and I just wanted to do right by my family once. I know I'm usually so selfish and I thought that the right thing to do was marry Kate but then I realised I couldn't because I loved someone else." Phil couldn't help but declare his love.
"Who's that?" sam asked. "Cindy?"
"No." He said shortly, he didn't care for Cindy anymore. "It's you ..."

"Good." He pulled her closer and moved his lips towards her, she didn't resist or back away, she moved closer and they kissed. It was soft and perfect for a first kiss, perfect because it started to rain and somehow made it more romantic.
