24 hour drinking

only 6 days to go and pubs can stay open 24 hours
tesco have got there 24 hour licence
and now asda are about to get there's too
so what do you peeps have to say about this?
i think our council tax will go up because we will need more police on our streets! its a stupid idea were used to going out early and leaving a club at 3am so why change what we are used to and have done for the last god knows how many years :thumbsdow

apparently this works well in other countries.. because pub/clubs etc are open 24 hours there is less binge drinking... they space drinks out more cause they know they have the time to do it

It annoys me at the moment not being able to buy a bottle of wine if I do my grocery shopping on a Sunday morning. That said, I wouldn't liketo work in Asda at 3am in the morning when the clubs comeout and some people wont to buy more alcohol. Our asda used to be open 24 hour, but it has changed to 6am to midnight because of trouble! (And that was when they weren't allowed to sell alcohol!)

i think it is a silly idea as people will jsut drink more than there will be more people with drink promblems

i don't believe the 24 drinking will help i think it is just going to increase Binge and underage drinking and cost the NHS thousands

I think there are good sides and bad sides to this, like with anything.

It will stop hundreds of drunk people leaving different clubs at the same time and having fighting left right and centre because everyone isn't being turfed out at the same time, so possibly easier to control, but to start off with you are going to have the people who drink themselves silly, just because they can. In time, hopefully, because its not a case of how many pints can I sink in 4 hours, people will be a little bit more sensible about it.

This has worked in other countries for a while now, but it will interesting to see what will happen here, though we wont be able to truly judge it for about 6 months IMO.

I will certainly look forward to being able to buy my bottle of wine on a sunday morning to have with sunday dinner though rather than having to wait till the time is right to be able to make my purchase :D

YOu might be surprised... i know it is not the same but when smoke free was brought out over here there was uproar about costing pubs and it won't last etc but it is nearly 2 years now and nobody cares anymore

Initally i think 24 hour drink will cause problems but look at spain and other european countries with 24 hour drinking, they take there time.. if you know something was not going to run out, would you take so much to begin with????

Exactly what I am thinking Siobhan - people will be daft initially as its a novelty, but then realism and sensibility will hopefully set in. Of course there will be a minority who will spoil it, just like there is in other things, but that happens all of the time. Now people aren't going to have to sink as many pints/shots etc in as short a space of time as poss and will be able to spread them out over a much longer period of time, it shouldn't be quite so bad - what does Hazey think about this???

I think at first people well go mad, just the idea of being able to have a drink at 5 in the morning. There are certain clubs now that open around the clock with drinking till 5 so the west end won't change much I don't think.All that will happen is people will go out later. One club I work in doesn't start till midnight fri/sat and goes on none stop till 8 am Monday morning,they can drink till 5am then it stops till 11am then back till 5am again.so they have time to sober up and start again,I think, I will be throw people out for being drunk more at first so clubs will die down early. Clubbers and pub goers only have a certain amount of money to spend at the end of the day.

I dont have a strong opinion, as it won't affect me directly for a few years, but i do think its just going to make the streets even more dangerous then what they are at hte minute. Its so dangerous to go out in the evenings on your own, but if this is extended to throughout the day, just because of drunkens following you and trying to attack you and stuff, then its a stupid idea.
