Corrie Spoilers 23rd - 27th December
Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn has teased this year's big Christmas episode, promising a strong mix of comedy and drama in the festive edition.
The Weatherfield soap will air an hour-long episode on Christmas Day, featuring tears and laughter for a number of the street's residents.
Viewers can expect the Platts to take centre stage as they try to move on from one of their most turbulent years as a family.
The Price, Cropper and McDonald clans will also be featuring in the episode.
Blackburn says: "It's brilliant - Christmas Day is fantastic. It's the funniest and one of the most dramatic episodes. I think we've got the mix right.
"There's been rumours about us killing Hayley on Christmas Day - but that's rubbish! Roy and Hayley are going to have the best Christmas Day ever, but obviously it's also extremely sad because we know it's their last one as a couple.
"Steve, Michelle and Lloyd in the pub is going to be a joy, and then we've got big drama for the Platts and the Prices on Christmas Day as they try to rebuild their families - but it's not going to quite work out as they'd planned."
Once Christmas and New Year are over, scenes airing in early 2014 will see Hayley's cancer storyline reach its tragic conclusion - leaving her husband Roy (David Neilson) devastated.
Julie Hesmondhalgh, who plays Hayley, filmed her final scenes last month.
Asked what fans can expect from Hayley's exit, Blackburn replied: "Tears. We've tried to play it as straight as we can, because this story isn't about entertainment at all. It's real, it's true and it's painful. Hayley's final episode is beautifully shot and has been done with respect, love and affection.
"It made me weep when I watched it. Even though I'd read two or three drafts of scripts beforehand and was there when the scenes were shot, it was still so upsetting to watch.
"Those two actors - Julie and David - have been magnificent. I think both of them could grace any genre and stand out. They've been brilliant, so we owe a lot to both of them."
