Sometimes when you love someone who doesn't love you back, it makes you want them more. I've been in his situation and it sucks.

My favourite thing about Gilly is the need she has to pick out any spelling or grammar mistakes (despite hers being far from perfect) and when she deletes anyones comments who dare challenge her...

Kate is dead and their relationship was never anything spectacular from his perspective..we mostly saw it from hers. It doesn't make a lot of sense that he would not feel cofident in a relationship...
