2631: Sarah ends her relationship with Lydia
Airs on Monday, August 24 2009 at 18:30 BST on Channel 4
Ste receives little support after nearly letting Daniel and Abi take Lucas away. Mike and Sarah insist that he's not welcome at their home and that Lucas will stay with them.
When Abi tries to explain herself, Ste's hostile. She claims that she only ever acted out of love for Lucas and that the three of them can still be a family. Mike dismisses any possibility of letting Lucas live with Ste, so Ste pleads with Mike to give him a few final hours with Lucas to say goodbye. Mike reluctantly relents.
Seizing his only chance, Ste plans to take Abi up on her offer to leave the village as a family. Daniel shows up, though, having been released by the police. Ste's furious, prompting Abi to run off with Lucas.
Ste later finds them safe and ready to leave, but begins to have second thoughts about Abi. As she becomes increasingly clingy, Ste realises that Abi's unstable in her obsession with having a baby and doesn't truly care for him - he's merely a means to an end.
Ste takes Lucas back and tells Abi to stay away from him. Frustrated by his shortcomings as a father, Ste reluctantly hands Lucas back to Mike, while Abi turns to Daniel with renewed determination to have the baby she so desperately craves…
Meanwhile, Lydia's finding her relationship with Sarah increasingly hard work. Sarah's preoccupied with babysitting Leah and gives Lydia the cold shoulder when she offers to help out. After speaking to Josh, Lydia resolves to take control of things with Sarah.
Lydia suggests that they could spend more time together by getting a flat of their own, but Sarah's caught off guard. She insists that she can't leave her dad in the lurch with Leah, especially after recent events with Lucas. Trying to assert herself, Lydia declares her love. The revelation proves too much for Sarah and Lydia's shocked by her response.
Elsewhere, Darren and Cindy connive to undermine business at The Dog. Having been tasked with finding a new chef by Neville, Darren finds too many well-suited candidates. However, he plans to hire someone who will be bad for business in the hope of opening the door for him to take over.
Cindy puts the idea to Dom and manages to persuade him to go for the job. Darren sulks, believing Dom will be far too competent for what he has in mind, while Cindy's delighted that she can get closer to Tony with Dom out of the way.

Darren attempts to sabotage Dom's new position as chef at The Dog. Darren begins by sewing seeds of doubt with Hannah while Dom tries to impress Neville with his menu. Tony shows up to have lunch with Cindy and support Dom in the process.
Seeing their arrival, Darren sets out to ensure that they have a thoroughly unhappy dining experience. First he deliberately spills Cindy's course all over Hannah. When customers start feeling nauseous, Neville has no choice but to fire Dom and offer refunds to all the customers in an attempt to limit the potential damage to the business.
Cindy soon realises that Darren was responsible and points out that by undermining Dom's reputation, the value of Il Gnosh could sink just as low as The Dog - ultimately, Darren's scheme is self-defeating.
Darren and Cindy argue over their plans and their twisted relationship becomes strained. Feeling for Tony and Dom, Cindy decides to keep things between her and Darren strictly business from now on, leaving Darren crestfallen.
Meanwhile, Lydia and Sarah struggle with their feelings in the wake of their break up. Sarah tells Hannah that she thinks she did the right in finishing with Lydia and that she can't see them reconciling. Meanwhile, Lydia tries to downplay her unhappiness in front of Charlotte. Sarah confides in Zoe while she works on her TV project, while Lydia joins Nancy and Archie's impromptu protest against its exploitation of women.
After exchanging harsh words with Sarah, Lydia admits to Charlotte that she may have liked Sarah more than she thought she did. Charlotte attempts to comfort Lydia, but she misreads the signals and tries to kiss Charlotte who pulls away. They argue over the misunderstanding and Lydia blames Charlotte for leading her on. When Sarah sees them together, Lydia creates a storm that leaves Sarah angry and Charlotte confused.
Elsewhere, Zoe secures a job on reality TV show Buff TV. Kris points out the tawdry reputation of the channel but encourages her to seize the opportunity regardless. Zoe quits her job at the call centre in spectacular fashion but later begins to doubt herself.

Cindy begins to face up to the reality of her relationship with Tony. Her regular superficial stride is thrown when Holly questions what Tony sees in her. Beginning to feel inadequate, Cindy snaps at Darren and spurns his advances, insisting that she's not that shallow.
When Tony becomes amorous with her in the kitchen, Cindy looks for signs of reassurance that he's with her for more than just her body. Finding none, Cindy storms off, upset by how she believes everybody perceives her.
After a minor tantrum from Holly, Cindy's deeply hurt and decides that it's time for a change. She returns to Il Gnosh with a new conservative outlook that elicits both surprise and dissatisfaction from Tony. Cindy doesn't get the reaction she was hoping for, though, and is further offended by Tony's description of the casual nature of their relationship.
Tony is left confused by Cindy's actions and tries to talk to her about her feelings, but his words don't provide any comfort. Fearing that she'll never succeed with her plans for marriage, Cindy tells Tony that it's over between them.
Meanwhile, Newt prepares to reveal the news of his exam results to his family. After breakfast at the McQueens', Newt tells Theresa that he should go home and tell Jack and Frankie his results so that he can make out he left to pick them up early.
On hearing Newt's grades, Jack and Frankie are delighted. Newt, however, is less jubilant, checking for a return text from his mother but there isn't one. When Darren offers his congratulations, Newt confides in him that he was hoping his mum might have at least shown an interest.
Later, Frankie and Jack prepare a special dinner to celebrate Newt's achievement and he admits to being upset having heard from his mother. Jack and Frankie tell him that even as foster parents, they couldn't be more proud of Newt. Knowing that they're genuine, Newt feels better and shows his gratitude as the family start planning a holiday.
Elsewhere, Theresa decides to try and launch a career as a racy model. Although Myra's elated with Theresa's exam results, Theresa tells her that she's not planning on returning to education.
Overhearing that Zoe's looking for models to star in her Buff TV project, Theresa's quick to volunteer but is shot down by Zoe for being too young. Theresa turns to Loretta for advice on how to begin modeling. From that, Theresa gets the idea to take some sample photos and start looking for an agent.
She shows her risqué shots to Zoe and desperate for suitable models, Zoe agrees to film her for Buff TV. Theresa's delighted with the results, while Zoe worries that she may have crossed a line.
