15 is really young.. my sister had my nephew at 16.. i was only 9 at the time and I thought she was really old.. then 10 years later, my brothers girlfriend had a baby at 16 and I thought she was so young.. it is amazing how you think when you are younger too

Depends what you mean by harder, what kind of situation you are in,i was pregant at 16 but had him at 17.it bugs me when people assume you arent with the same bloke anymore.i was with my bf 4 months before i got pregnant and 7 years later and one more son later, another on the way we are still together.we bought our own house at 18,bought our own car out right, have hols abroad and all the other perks in life and the great thing is he is the same age as me!
we have been very lucky and i realise some people arent as lucky, but im glad i proved everyone wrong.Harder as in harder to be a parent at such a young age depends on the person, how mature they are and if they arent how quick they grow up.Im not blowing my own trumpet here but considering the age i had my first i think i have done a marvellous job,no different to a women of 40 doing it.

Good for you Chance! I am glad that everything has worked out so well for you. Unfortunately, though some kids are not so stable or level headed.... I guess it depends v. much on the person and their relationship.

People can meet at 35, have kids and split up just the same.

Well done Chance.. it is a shame that people look upon younger people having children like that... My brother had a baby at 17 and his girlfriend at the time was only 16.. they split up 4 years later but they are great parents.. she is now married to my brother friend and they have 3 other children.. my brother babysits for them when they want to go out.. they say themselves that they were a lousy couple but great parents.. All the children are happy..

I know, my brother is just a really good kind person.. His ex lost her baby last week and he took care of all the kids when she was in hospital so it would give herself and her husband time together. They all get on really well and her other kids adore my brother...

I don't think age makes a difference, though it does help to have a good support network around you. Whether you are 16 or 40, anyone can be a loving mum.

not really, i had my first at 18 and second at 26 and i found the labour easier second time, but i got postnatal depression with the second and i have found it harder juggling work and home and kids and thats with the help of a partner something i did not have with no1. but we are all different and our coping mechanisims are all different what works for one might not work for another

I wanted to prove to everyone that I wasn't going to screw the state for money, so went back to work full time when eldest was 3 months old. Cost me missing out on a lot of the early years, but at least I proved I wasn't doing it just for a house. Wouldn't recommend it as a sensible option in life though!!!

Treacle
22-06-2005, 12:56
I pay enough taxes if I ever went to sponge off the state I feel perfectly entitled to. I've worked for years and paid tax, atleast I'm not somebody who's never worked and is claiming it. If I'm ever out of work, I am going to sponge off the state because I feel entitled to but hopefully I won't find myself in that situation :)

Yes I see the point. No way would I want to claim had I not put enough into it.I felt really guilty about it all, went back to work too quickly, and then suffered guilt trips that I hadn't been there for my son, missing out on his first steps etc. Thats probably why I am glad that I can now work from home. Best of both worlds then.

I didn't miss out because we have a maternity work package and they kind of gave me less hours. Plus you can have 18 weeks off on full pay from 2 weeks before your baby is born.

Certainly not missing out on Ciaran and this one when it arrives though. Staying at home, yet still paying my taxes, best of both worlds :cheer:

I may never work again. I'm signed off on health reasons. Am on full pay. Only working the odd day or so here and there. Got that until atleast after the baby is born. They won't let me go from the job though until I've been off for 12 months but I don't quite know what's going to happen yet or whether I'll go back. I've had enough of bathing pensioners and having the randy ones grope me.

Plus, I find that just because I am pregnant, everyone thinks they are allowed to touch me!! Straight away, hand on bump and "oh aren't you blossoming". What makes it different just cause I have a bump??? :searchme:

That's why I like to wear big dresses to hide the bump. I've found a lovely collection of summer dresses that I can't wait to wear. Bit too big yet but it's getting bigger by the day. The bump is well and truly coming out of the woodwork now and about time too! I'm 5 months gone.

I'm really lucky this time. It's only just starting to show now. Before it was only small but it's getting bigger by the day now. Making up for lost time. I wake up in the morning and it's grown! It's so astonishing.

Thats what scares me, I'm still growing!!!! 2 days before I had Ciaran I was 51 inchs around the waist!! This time I am already 38 inchs and wearing hubbys jim jams for lounging in!! And they're getting too small  I wanted to hold off of maternity wear until the colder weather started, but haven't managed to, though have only bought 2 pairs of cropped trousers and 2 tops from H&M, so will try to make do with them. When are you due WQ, if you don't mind me asking??
