2621: Elliot's dad arrives in the village
Airs on Monday, August 10 2009 at 18:30 BST on Channel 4
Leila's shocked when she receives a message from Gareth, Elliot's dad, telling her that he's in town. Excited about her surprise reunion, Leila's sent into a panic when Kris explains just how much of a bad idea her plan is.
In addition, Leila's offered a place at the art show where she's able to display and sell her work. Using that as an excuse to get rid of Elliot, Leila desperately tries to contact Gareth and cancel their meeting. Setting up at the art show, though, is also proving difficult. Zoe and Kris are barely speaking and Ste ends up throwing a tray of canapés over Leila's dress.
Completely stressed out, Leila's unaware that Elliot's gone to her house and unknowingly met his dad. In all the confusion, Elliot believes Gareth to be a delivery man arriving late with Leila's missing painting. While Elliot berates Gareth for being so late, Gareth realises that he's staring at his son.
When they eventually reach the show Leila's gobsmacked but before she has chance to explain, Elliot realises Gareth is actually holding a picture of Elliot as a boy with his mum. Elliot still has no idea what's going on until Leila finally tells Elliot the truth.
Meanwhile, Tony's not in the best of moods after breaking up with Cindy and to make things worse, Ste's struggling to manage work and Lucas. Arriving late, Tony reprimands Ste and when Ste tries to give him relationship advice about Cindy, he snaps. Ste takes over preparing the canapés for the art show but Tony returns to find it's a mess. At that precise moment, Cindy arrives to help out and although her canapés aren't exactly amazing, Tony's still impressed with her efforts.
Thinking she's in his good books, Cindy becomes full on with Tony but he immediately tells her to back off and get out his life. Feeling that she's got nothing to lose, she makes a last-ditch attempt to rekindle their romance by pretending that Holly's left her favourite DVD at his flat.
While there, they have a brief heart to heart, with Cindy telling Tony that he should never change who he is. As Cindy walks out, Tony reacts in exactly the way she was hoping for and follows her. He tells her that he's made a big mistake and he can see how good they are together. Cindy's relieved that her plan is back on track as she and Tony share a passionate kiss.
Elsewhere, Steph's given food for thought when Cindy tells her that she needs some passion in her life. She's in a fluster over Fernando and Cindy takes pleasure in mocking her about it. Steph's keen to maintain a professional relationship with Fernando, so when he arrives for their dance school meeting, she becomes overly formal and on-edge.
Fernando's bemused by Steph's behaviour and suggests that they meet later that evening to discuss ideas. Steph offers to cook paella but when Fernando arrives an hour early, she's completely unprepared. They eventually decide to scrap the paella and make do with wine and some cheesy dance movies. As Steph begins to relax with Fernando, we can see that maybe Cindy was right about her after all.
2622: Daniel interviews a couple who want to adopt

Leila's thrilled that she made £200 at the art sale, but Elliot's in no mood for celebrating - he's still fuming that she contacted his dad behind his back. After Elliot storms out, Leila goes to meet Gareth again. She's forced to come clean and tell him that Elliot was unaware that they'd been in contact. Gareth doesn't want to cause any more upset, but Leila persuades him that he should give it one more go with his son.
Leila tries but fails to get in touch with her boyfriend - until she eventually asks Gilly to phone Elliot and get him out for a drink. Elliot's suspicious but agrees to go and meet him at The Dog.
When Elliot arrives to meet Gilly, he's instead greeted by Leila and Gareth. Initially, the meeting doesn't go well as Gareth stars boring Elliot with stories about darts. However, when Elliot shows off his mathematical and scientific knowledge, Gareth's impressed and the pair begin to bond. After their meeting, Elliot still doesn't know what to think but Leila convinces him to give Gareth a chance….
Meanwhile, when Ste turns up late for work again, it's the last straw and Tony dismisses him. Daniel speaks on the phone to a couple that wants to adopt Lucas. He lets Abi take Lucas out for the day, but is perturbed by how attached she's becoming. Daniel's further alarmed when Ste returns home as he's arranged an interview with Sandy and John who want to adopt Lucas.
As the couple arrive, Daniel tries to shift Ste out of the way but he insists on staying, unaware that the couple want to take Lucas. Throughout the interview, Ste gives John and Sandy a hard time. Daniel avoids mentioning Lucas by name in front of Ste, but he tells John and Sandy that the parents are teenagers who can't cope.
Daniel asks Ste not to tell Abi about the interview, before slipping more caffeine tablets into Ste's drink. When Abi returns home, she barely lets Ste see Lucas. Daniel's alarmed by her behaviour and there's a chilling moment when he tells Ste that John and Sandy should get their child soon…
Elsewhere, Steph's agreed to cook paella for Fernando but can't find any ingredients in Drive 'N' Buy. Gilly comes to the rescue when he suggests that she cook a Spanish omelette instead. As he's giving her a recipe, Gilly playfully bemoans the fact that he's not the lucky man who gets to have Steph cook for him.
The meal goes well until Steph spills wine on Fernando's shirt. As she gives him one of Max's old tops to wear, Steph can't help but feel weird. When Fernando suggests that Steph changes and expands MOBS, she becomes very touchy and reminds him that MOBS was Max's and asks him to leave. Steph feels down, but her spirits are lifted as she remembers how funny Gilly was earlier in the day…
2623: Gilly sees Steph and Fernando kiss

Although still wary, Elliot's coming round to the idea of having Gareth in his life so decides to make an effort to get to know him. Despite the reunion being Leila's idea, she starts to worry that Gareth will let Elliot down but tries to stay positive.
While in Drive 'N' Buy, Leila walks in on what she believes to be Gareth scamming Gilly and with her doubts about Gareth growing, she's furious when she later catches him looking down her top. She tries to bite her tongue for the sake of Elliot but eventually snaps, telling Elliot exactly what she thinks of Gareth. Elliot's surprisingly quick to dismiss Leila's doubts and defends his dad.
Meanwhile, Abi's becoming closer to Lucas and Daniel's beginning to worry. He tells Ste not to mention the interview with John and Sandy to her as he's deliberately gone behind her back. Daniel's plan is starting to come together – Ste's still sleep-deprived and jobless but Abi's starting to feel guilty. After visiting the job centre, Ste and Abi take Lucas to the park but Ste soon puts his foot in it by telling Abi that she makes a great mum.
With the memory of her own baby's death so raw, Abi becomes emotional with a mixture of grief and her growing guilt. Ste manages to slip up again and is forced to come clean to Abi about the interview the previous day. She's livid with Daniel, knowing that he's planning on giving Lucas up.
Returning home, Ste senses the tension and makes himself scarce, leaving Abi able to confront Daniel about his deceit. Abi's adamant that Lucas will be their baby and issues Daniel with an ultimatum…

Tom, however, is a relationship expert and tells Gilly he's fully aware that Steph and Fernando are going to become boyfriend and girlfriend. Foolishly thinking his day couldn't get any worse, Gilly witnesses Steph and Fernando sharing their first kiss.
2624: Leila confronts Gareth

As Elliot prepares for the science awards, Leila's doubts about Gareth intensify. Elliot enjoys having his father around and asks Leila to give him a chance but she can't help but be suspicious of what Gareth tells them about Elliot's half-brother, Maynard. Leila confides in Kris who downplays her concerns but agrees to meet Gareth and judge for himself.
Later, Leila searches for Maynard's name on a social networking site and discovers that Gareth has been lying about his other son's age. Seeing how happy Elliot is to have his father around, Leila agonizes over whether or not to tell him what she's found.
Elliot introduces Kris to Gareth and when the pair hit it off, Leila begins to feel more awkward. Leila tells Kris about Maynard's real age, but Kris isn't keen to rock the boat.
Having won the science award, Elliot suggests spending the prize money on a family holiday with Gareth and Maynard, leaving Gareth nervous at the prospect of the truth being exposed. While Elliot celebrates, Leila takes it upon herself to confront Gareth about her findings.
Meanwhile, Ste struggles to cope with Lucas while Abi becomes closer to them both. Having spent the night in Lucas's room, Abi's goes out with Daniel for the day in the hope that her thoughts will be diverted from being a mother. Ste's left alone to take care of Lucas, but the he's left exhausted.
Abi and Daniel's lunch is spoiled, though, by an atmosphere as the couple struggle to come to terms with the death of their son, Michael. Daniel insists that they can get through their problems together. When Ste calls them in when he can't stop Lucas from crying, Abi rushes back to help.
Seeing Ste's gratitude and parental pride, Abi finds herself wishing Daniel was more like Ste and begins to see him in a new light. Abi's left on cloud nine after her day with Lucas, while Daniel remains earnest about their plans for the baby.
Elsewhere, Gilly competes for Steph's attention by volunteering for a variety of D.I.Y. tasks. After cleaning up graffiti daubed on MOBS, he offers to do the same at the Council Hall, eliciting Steph's gratitude but not her affection. Rhys notices Gilly's attempts to win her over and teases him, before offering to help out by sabotaging Steph's dance class so that Gilly can jump to her rescue.
Things don't quite go to plan, though as Fernando fixes the electrical problem instead, stealing Gilly's thunder. Gilly's crestfallen to learn that Steph and Fernando have arranged a date for that evening.
