Help! I hope someone reads this cos I know its been quiet

I want to install the sims 2 on my computer but directX version 9 needs to be installed. I tried to install it from the CD and it wouldnt do it, saying it cant be trusted so i went on the website and downloaded it and whenever I get to the bit where I accept the conditions and then it starts to install a box comes up saying:
The cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted. Please verify the cryptographic services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid

What the hell does that mean and how do I do it?

It doesn't say but when I googled your error message, this was a solution on a tech site

This is your exact issue (installing sim 2) solution:

On Windows XPhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.techsupportforum.com/#), there are two KB articles provide detailed instructions on

how to resolve issues with the cryptographic services: KB 813442, 822798

- http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;813442 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813442)

- http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;822798 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;822798)

- Other options for Windows XP would be to try to install XP SP2, which may

be able to correct the cryptographic services problem and installs the

DirectX 9.0c runtimes.

both sites suggest to install the runtimes

No its not working tbh I have no idea what Im doing.
I extracted the files and then nothing, but one of the extracted files was like a setup icon so I clicked that and it went on as if I was install the directX and it came up with the same message

Its really annoying though cos the directX that I need is on the CD but when I go to install I click yes I want to install it and I agree to everything but then the next message coming up is sounding like I clicked no when I didnt! Cos It says sorry unable to innstall, DirectX 9.0 is needed!

Im going insane

Try this:

1. open a command prompt
2. type c:\
3. type chkdsk /r

It will probably say it needs to scan the hard disk at the next boot. Say yes

Reboot

The hard disk will now be checked for errors

Then

Under Windows XP, ensure that the Cryptographic Services are enabled and running:

Right-click on My Computer
Click on Manage
Expand Services and Applications
Click on Services
Right-click on Cryptographic Services
Click on Properties
Set the Startup type to Automatic
OK and close your way back out. This service is required for the validation to work.

Try to install directx again (the one from the microsoft site)

Bring your computer over?

Oh no, stay well away from PC World. They're as much use as my mother when it comes to computers.
