Why do people use Twitter?

Thanks for this great forum. This is my first post to the forum and I wonder what you people think.

Why people use Twitter? What motivates people to use Twitter? Any ideas? It’s about news or comments?

Why not head over to the introductions (http://www.soapboards.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=54) forum and post there to introduce yourself and tell us a bit about you and the programs you watch? Members are more likely to see welcomes and first posts there :)
