THE lives of Morecambe and Wise are being turned into a major BBC1 film.
It follows the comedy giants' early years, from the day they met nearly 70 years ago.
Peter Bowker, the writer behind the Beeb's war series Occupation, is scripting the film.
He said: "The comedy style at the time was very much about making gags to the audience, but Morecambe and Wise realised quite early on they could be funny by talking to each other as well.
"I've written quite a lot of dark scripts so it was refreshing to be writing some comedy for a change."
Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise met in 1941, and became one of Britain's best-loved double acts until Morecambe's death in 1984. Wise died 15 years later.
