EastEnders' Ronnie Mitchell is to get a blast from the past when her first love Joel Reynolds turns up in Albert Square.
Star of BBC Three's Pulling, Cavan Clerkin will take on the role of Ronnie's (Samantha Womack) old flame and father to her now-dead daughter Danielle Jones (Lauren Crace).
As the only remaining link to Danielle, Ronnie's previously toyed with the idea of meeting up with him and even attended a school reunion with Christian (John Partridge) in the hope that he would be there.
When he failed to show, she subsequently turned up on his doorstep wishing to talk through their past. However, as one of his daughters answered the door, Ronnie bolted from the scene.
With Janine (Charlie Brooks) and Archie (Larry Lamb) scheming behind Ronnie's back in a bid to manipulate her back into the family fold, she's dumbfounded when she finds Joel sat before her in The Vic.
Archie's livid by Janine's interference, while Ronnie's somewhat taken by his reappearance in her life. Will they manage to pick up where they left off all those years ago?
Speaking of his new role, Clerkin said: "It's fantastic being on set in Albert Square, it's such an iconic place and I'm really enjoying working with the wonderful cast, especially Samantha Womack. Joel is a nice guy who fantasises about a future with an amazingly beautiful woman, so that's something a lot of men may relate too!"
Executive producer Diederick Santer commented: "We first heard about Joel - Ronnie's childhood sweetheart and the father of Danielle - nearly two years ago. And finally we get to see him."
He added: "Cavan Clerkin is a delightful and subtle actor with a big funny bone. He's grabbed this enigmatic and rather odd character and made it his own."
Clerkin makes his screen debut as Joel on Thursday, August 6.

Dawn Swann spends days wondering if she should end her affair with Phil Mitchell – only to discover he thinks it was just a fling.
And in her fury she takes a swipe at Phil after finding out he’s been *boasting to Minty that “it didn’t mean a thing”.
Minty had spotted her leaving the Vic late one night a few weeks ago and finally tells her Phil’s true thoughts.
He does his best to assure his best mate Garry Hobbs that Dawn still loves him while advising him to give her a bit of space.
At the same time he begs Dawn to give Garry another chance.
Our Walford source said: “Dawn is torn *between Garry and Phil and is having a really hard time deciding what she should do while Minty plays mediator.
“Dawn explains to Minty that sometimes she just isn’t in the mood and Garry takes this personally.
B*ut she also tells him Phil was very *upset when she called it off.
“In reality Phil’s told Minty he couldn’t care less about Dawn and doesn’t feel bad about the affair because “guilt is for wimps”.
“Dawn finally decides it is Garry she *really wants but when Minty sets her straight and tells her Phil hasn’t even considered the two of them might be *serious she hits the roof. She goes absolutely mental and totally loses the plot.
“Adamant that Phil led her on, Dawn makes her way to the Queen Vic where she bangs frantically on the doors.
“When Phil opens up she storms in and *accuses him of being a liar, screaming that he is a ‘cheating scumbag’ before threatening to tell Garry all about their affair and even taking a swing at him.”

Dawn makes her choice
Airs on Monday, August 3 2009 at 20:00 BST on BBC One
Dawn receives a suspicious text message at the station and surveys her surroundings with concern. Garry, meanwhile, is upbeat about Dawn's return but she's not in the cuddling mood. With Garry gone, Dawn turns to Minty and asks if he sent her a text message. Denying all knowledge, he goes on to ask if she's made a decision yet. Later, Dawn shows Phil the message she received - 'I know your secret' - and she's shocked to learn that he received the same one. As they share a cuddle, Tracey nearly walks in on them. Later, Max shows Phil the exact same message on his phone.
In The Vic, Minty gives Dawn 30 minutes to choose between Garry and Phil. Pushed for an answer, Dawn explains that it's more complicated than she thought because she loves them both. Dawn finally confides in Phil that Minty knows about their affair, before revealing that she loves him and is choosing him over Garry. Phil knocks her back, though, reminding her that he's only her 'bit on the side' and nothing more. As Garry makes his way to The Vic, he nearly catches Dawn and Phil together again…
Meanwhile, Lucas suggests to Denise that it might not be a bad idea to let Libby reconnect with her father, but Denise is adamant - Owen will never change. Chelsea, meanwhile, is put out that nobody seems to care where she's been for the last few weeks. Libby's in the café talking to Liz about Denise's 'unreasonableness' and Liz suggests that visiting Owen inside could change her mind. Turning to Patrick for help, Liz tells Patrick that Owen's a changed man and hopes that he'll talk to Denise into visiting him in prison. Denise can't believe what Patrick's asking her to do but when he mentions Libby's feelings, the doting mother begins to think about her actions. Later, Liz hands Denise a visiting order for the following day. Denis is livid.

Minty calls Garry who's in the café and as he's about to reveal Dawn's infidelity, Garry hangs up. Concerned for Garry, Minty insists that she tell the truth.
