There's double joy for EastEnders star Jo Joyner who is pregnant with twins.
Jo, who plays Tanya Branning, the long-suffering wife of philandering Max, is due to give birth towards the end of the year. Last night Jo, 31, said that she and husband Neil Madden, also an actor, are “absolutely delighted” at the prospect of becoming parents for the first time.
The couple, who married in July 2007, live in London. Writers are said to be working on a plotline for the departure of Tanya, one of EastEnders’ most popular characters. One Albert Square source said: “Everyone is thrilled for Jo. Because it’s twins, she’s already got a bit of a bump so viewers can expect lots of big bags and cushions in her scenes over the coming months.”
In the soap feisty Tanya is a mum-of-three who buried husband Max alive after he cheated on her, but their love-hate relationship means she is now considering taking him back again.
The Christmas episode in which Tanya discovered Max was having an affair with Stacey Slater was a huge hit with viewers. Jo was also nominated for a Bafta for the episode. Now Tanya and Stacey are gearing up for another war over Max.
Jo, who was born in Essex but grew up in Oxfordshire, joined
EastEnders in 2006 from medical drama No Angels, in which she played nurse Beth Nicholls.
She has also appeared in Doctor Who, Silent Witness and Fat Friends before landing her current role as Tanya Branning on the flagship BBC1 soap.
