A cousin of the late Heath Ledger has reportedly landed a small role in Neighbours.

Luke Ledger, 16, is understood to have secured the part after winning a recent competition in Australia's Dolly magazine.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, he said: "Heath was a great role model. But no more so than many other actors.

"I'm inspired by a lot of other Australian actors. I think this country has unique talent."

When asked about his famous surname, he replied: "It's just a name. We all are who we are, if that makes any sense. I think you've just got to run with it and be proud of it."

He added that he is planning to finish school before hopefully entering the film industry as a full-time actor or director.

Heath, who passed away in January 2008, made one of his earliest screen outings on another Australian soap, appearing as Scott Irwin in Home and Away in 1997.
