View Full Version : Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell)
It's been a long time coming, but Kevin Webster - played by 44-year-old Michael Le Vell - finally gives into temptation next week when he kisses his best friend and business partner Tyrone Dobbs's (Alan Halsall) wife, Molly (Vicky Binns) after a run through the park. Initially reluctant, Molly soon begins to revel in the attention that she starts receiving from the local mechanic who's nearly twice her age. So where exactly has Kevin's lust for Molly stemmed from? And what does the man behind the character think of the racy plot? We gave Michael a call to find out more...
What were your thoughts when you first heard about the storyline?
"I was a bit shocked at first. I had to come to terms with 'would Kevin have an affair with Tyrone's wife?' There's a lot of water gone under the bridge with Kevin and Sally. He loves her to pieces, though, and he's trying to make an effort. This has come totally out of the blue, caught him off guard and knocked him sideways. It's unavoidable, though."
In the storylines it says that Kevin's "obsessed" with Molly - is it actually obsession?
"I don't know to be honest. I think it's lust for her to begin with. He's got old man younger woman syndrome! I think he started off with the chase and fully expected to get knocked back and that would have been the end of it. But with Molly, she knocks him back at first and then starts saying that she's flattered. It's a bit of a mid-life crisis going on in Kev's head. He's totally flattered that she sees something back in him. Before they know it, they're in too deep."
It's come out of nowhere really, hasn't it? Has it all been in the back of Kevin's mind?
"No, not at all. It's only since Kevin and Molly started training together and he's seen her in Lycra and sweating all the time. That starts registering with him!"
What is it that attracts Kevin to Molly?
"She's got some get up and go about her. She wants to go do the marathon, so she's doing it. Sally wants to do things but it's always in a snobby way and that winds Kevin up a little. He just wants a normal girl, not someone who aspires to be middle class, who's not."
Kevin and Sally have had a rocky relationship over the years. Do you think Kevin still loves her?
"Oh yeah, course he does. It's Kevin who's trying to break the relationship with Molly before it starts because he loves Sally. Kev knows that a lot of people are going to get hurt but it's just one of those situations that he just can't help."
It's quite ironic that after all the strife that Sally's put Kevin through, he's about to do the same to her. Does he not remember what he went through?
"Of course he does. Kevin never really confronted Sally with the fact that he knew about her relationship with Ian Davenport. She always thought that she got away with that one. Maybe that's been playing in the back of his mind? And not only that, Sally was seeing Ian for the money, gifts and all the material things in life. Maybe that's one thing that's never left Kevin's mind."
What would you say to those viewers who think that Molly would never cheat on Tyrone with Kevin?
"That's a tough one. I think it's because Kevin's an older, married and more experienced man and she's hoping to have grown-up conversations with him, whereas Tyrone's still a little immature in his ways at the moment. Women worldwide go for older men and the same with men with younger women - it's not something we've made up for the sake of a story. These situations happen on a daily basis. We try to depict real life as best we can in Coronation Street and this is just another one of those moments. People do fall in love with their best mate's wives, too. I'm not saying it's a right thing, but it happens!"
It's apparently a long-burner… can you give us any teasers as to what we can expect?
"It does run on, but it's not necessarily all about the affair. There are lots of other twists and turns introduced to the story down the line that aren't affair-related. They're going to send it in all different directions. I only have a vague outline of what's happening, but from what I have heard and read, it's very exciting. It's great for all the characters concerned. We can't wait to get our teeth stuck into it all."
You've become part of the makeup of Corrie now – how long do you see yourself sticking around for?
"Who knows? If you asked Bill Roache that 26 years into his Corrie career, he'd have probably said the same! Working on the UK's number one television programme is a great job to have. The quality of the writing and acting is second to none, so for me, why go out there and take the chance on doing something different when you already have, in my opinion, the best job on television?"
We'll be seeing you for the 50th anniversary, then?
"As far as I know! I'm happy to stay, but you never know when they're going to say 'we've gone as far as we can with your character'! You can never take anything for granted. As soon as you start thinking like that, that's when the rug's pulled from under you."
What's it like working with Sally Whittaker? You both have such a great rapport…
"I love Sally to pieces. I've known her for years, even before Corrie. We were at Oldham Theatre Workshop together. She's first class to work with and because I'm doing all these scenes with Vicky [Binns] now, it means I'm going to have a lot more work to do with Sally in the future, which I'm really looking forward to. I'm lucky that I'm surrounded by great actors - Vicky, Sally, Helen, Brooke and Alan [Halsall]."

Great post thanks :)
Last week, I managed to catch up with the head of one of my favourite Coronation Street families, the Websters. Yep, Kevin Webster - played by Michael Le Vell - first appeared on the cobbles in October 1983 and with his faithful promiscuous now faithful wife Sally (Sally Whittaker) by his side, they've firmly established themselves as Corrie gold.
Kevin's about to upset the apple cart again, though, as he embarks on another affair. As if the Natalie Horrocks (Denise Welch) saga didn't cause enough problems. That one ended in divorce! You'd have thought he'd have learned by now, wouldn't you...
A number of Corrie fans don't seem happy with the upcoming Molly (Vicky Binns) and Kevin saga - or 'Molvin' from hereon in. I'm just happy that the Websters and Molly are being given some long-overdue screen time. And it's making for some quite interesting viewing, too.
Click here to read the first part of my interview with Michael Le Vell. If you've landed on this page after reading that one, then read on! Here, Michael explains what happens in a few weeks' time between Kevin and Molly. As he says, anything that can go wrong for the promiscuous pair, does go wrong...
There's a great scene with Molly and Kevin in a sports car… What was that like to film?
"It was very funny, actually. Because we don't film it all in chronological order, I think it was one of the first scenes where we had to film a kiss. They take one of Kevin's customer's sports cars for a drive and they take it to a secluded spot. But then they're interrupted by the police!"
There's another moment in the back room of Dev's shop, too, isn't there?
"Yeah, they're trying all sorts! They lock the door of the corner shop for some alone time but Dev forgets something and he ends up banging on the door. They just keep getting interrupted."
It's the week of Sally's birthday, but Kevin only has one thing on his mind…
"Kevin's been obsessed with trying to set up a rendezvous with Molly so they can have a bit of alone time. It's not happened by this point. When Molly leaves Sally's party early and Tyrone goes to the pub, she calls Kevin to let him know and asks him to make an excuse to go to the garage to sort the alarm out or something - and they end up consummating their relationship…"
What happens with the hotel mix-up?
"Kev's desperate by this point and books a hotel for Molly and Kevin to stay in, but then the hotel phone up and Sally answers the phone. Anything that could go wrong does go wrong for them. Maybe the clues are there for them… Maybe they should say 'this isn't meant to be'. But they don't - that'd make boring television!"
Then they have sexy time at the Duckworths'!
"Yeah, that's officially the start of their affair. We actually filmed two versions of that scene. We filmed one on the stairs and one on the settee. The one on the stairs could be a little too raunchy for 7.30pm at night! I don't know which one they're going to use yet, though."
Apparently you're a keen poker player - do you get much time to play, what with the gruelling Corrie schedules?
"Yeah, I love it! I don't get the chance to play as much as I'd like. I do play on Tuesday nights in my local pub, we have our local poker school. I've not been able to play any tournaments for Five or anything this year."
Are you surprised that the writers have never written poker into the show for Kevin?
"That could be an idea… They've had a few card scenes in the past… That'd be good to talk a few of the characters into going to a casino one Friday night and enter a tournament. That'd be great."
Could not get this link to work when I posted the first part.
Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell has revealed that he thinks his character will make a great single dad.
The actor, who plays Kevin Webster in the ITV1 soap, predicted that Sally will leave Kevin after discovering his affair with Molly Dobbs and joked that a baby will help to attract the attention of females.
He told the Daily Star Sunday: "I can't see Sally sticking with Kevin. But he'll be a great single dad. Baby Jack won't cramp his style at all. Women love a bloke with a baby. I used to do it. I'd volunteer to take them to toddler group, all the totty loved it.
"I'd often go off for a walk round the Trafford Centre. The amount of attention you'd get being a dad out with a baby was incredible. So I reckon Kevin will be okay."
Speaking of his recent filming schedule, he added: "It's been a long 12 months for me but it was great to have been so heavily involved in the 50th."

He might be a single dad for a while, but I think he and Sally will eventually get back together. After all, they've weathered affairs on both their parts before.

Yeh. Maybe he got it wrong, we can hope lol. It is unlikely though granted.
I guess he seems to think Kevin will take on the baby then. I think the more Tyrone and Jack stay round his house the more Kevin will have a chance to bond with the baby. Since it was born he hasnt been able to bring himself to look at Jack. But he will have to eventually, and I reckon when he does he will start to feel for him.

This 'spoiler ' printed in the SPORT (enough said) is just pure speculation by Michael Le Vell and will probably never happen

A younger version of Ken and Deirdre?
I think so, could see that. I'm glad Kevin is getting nagged at now the truth has come out, but think Sal will take him back at some point.
CORONATION Street's Sally Webster turns into the soap's legendary Hilda Ogden in a light-hearted storyline.
Viewers will see her resemble roller-wearing Hilda to put off potential buyers for her home.
Well-spoken Sally (Sally Dynevor) turns herself into a shrill fishwife as she dons a hair scarf and rollers, just like gossip Hilda - who she used to lodge with.
In amusing scenes. she will also pass off scruffy neighbour Eddie Windass (Steve Huison) as her new boyfriend and turn the house into a pigsty that stinks of decaying food and rubbish.
Sally pulls out all the stops to prevent estranged husband Kevin (Michael Le Vell) selling their marital home and dividing the profits.
She kicks him out over his affair and baby with tragic tram crash victim Molly Dobbs.
An insider told TV Biz: "These scenes will provide the comedy Corrie is famous for and make a great change from the tragic scenes concerning the tram crash.
"To see Sally in her normally pristine home surrounded by household rubbish, dressed like Hilda Ogden, draped round the unkempt Eddie and talking like a dirty-mouthed trollop will be absolutely fantastic."
But there is trouble ahead for Sally when Kevin rumbles her game.
Hilda, played by Jean Alexander from 1964 until 1987, was one of Corrie's most iconic characters.
Her partnership with long-suffering hubby Stan (Bernard Youens) produced some of the soap's greatest moments.
Her departure was watched by 27 million fans - its biggest audience.
brilliant! and that would definitly work considering Sally was her Lodger, i love watching lighthearted sally!
Coronation Street's Michael Le Vell has admitted that he thinks Kevin and Sally Webster will be reunited.
The actor told the TV Times that he believes the estranged couple could get back together at some stage. However, his co-star Sally Dynevor insisted that it will be hard for Sally to accept Kevin's son Jack from his affair with Molly.
"I think they could definitely get back together, but I don't know when or how," Le Vell said. "They could make it work as long as Sally accepts baby Jack."
Dynevor added: "So many people have said it just wouldn't be right if Sally and Kevin weren't together. But I'm sure it would be really difficult for her to accept Jack as her own. Could you do that?"
Discussing the plot and how it has progressed, Le Vell told the magazine: "I think it's great. It's realistic too. Sally and Kevin wouldn't get back together overnight because a lot of damage has been done. Having said that, there is still Ian Davenport! She had an affair with him [back in 1995] and Kevin turned a blind eye to it."
However, Dynevor hit back: "Michael keeps going on about that. I wish he'd get over it and move on! She didn't have a child with Ian. And he was her boss. It was different.
"I think Sally and Kevin had to split up. It's been such a great story with her getting breast cancer, him having the affair and the tram crash - it had to lead to this."
Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has confirmed that his downtrodden character Tyrone Dobbs will soon call a truce with business partner Kevin Webster.
The pair have been at odds for months following the revelation that Kevin had enjoyed an affair with Tyrone's wife Molly before her death.
Tension between the former friends comes to a head again next week when an angry Tyrone uses a spanner to attack an expensive car lifting machine that Kevin has bought for the garage. Tyrone is unaware that he has caused severe damage to the device until the lift suddenly buckles while Kevin is working on a car, leaving him in jeopardy as he starts to be crushed.
Revealing what happens after Kevin is rushed to hospital, Halsall told All About Soap: "Fortunately, Kevin is just suffering from concussion and he's got a broken collarbone. He'll be okay.
"Tyrone lets Kevin believe that Tommy was responsible, but after a while, Ty can't take the guilt and confesses what he did. Kevin suggests they both call a truce. At first, Tyrone's unsure - he has every right to be bitter, but he can't carry on the way he has been and eventually agrees."
Discussing Tyrone's decision, the actor continued: "Tyrone has gone along with the truce for the sake of the business and his own sanity - he needs to stop wallowing in self-pity. He's ready to move on, but this is purely about work - he tells Kevin they'll never be friends."
Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell has revealed that he would like Kevin and Sally Webster to reunite as soon as possible.
The actor's character was dumped by wife Sally (Sally Dynevor) late last year after she discovered that he had cheated on her and fathered a child with shop worker Molly Dobbs.
Although a long period of bickering followed between the pair, viewers have seen them get back on better terms in recent weeks - though a reunion still looks a long way off.
However, asked whether they could get back together, Le Vell told Take It Easy: "We're hoping so, but it's not going to be in the near future. I love working on the Webster set, so the sooner we get back together, the better.
"But we don't write the stuff - we just learn the lines and say it."
He continued: "Kevin is concentrating on his kids. Rosie and Sophie have accepted him back into their lives and are coming to terms with what's happened. And they've all softened towards baby Jack - his cuteness definitely won them round."
Coronation Street's producer Phil Collinson has previously praised Sally and Kevin's split for providing "a lot of brilliant storyline material".
The actor made his vow after being cleared of child sex charges, he told pals he was happy being single and would be concentrating on his career next year
Coronations Street star Michael Le Vell has made his New Year’s resolution – to stay single in 2014.
The actor , 48, made his vow as he prepares to return to Corrie in April for the first time since being cleared of child sex charges.
He told pals he was happy being single and would be concentrating on his career next year.
A friend said: “Michael is really keen to have a steady life after the traumatic year he’s had.
“He was telling anyone who’d listen he’s now celibate. It’s one of his New Year’s resolutions. He also said he wants to be happier and see more of his friends.”
On top of his court ordeal, Michael of Hale, Greater Manchester has had a difficult year relationship-wise.
He is believed to have started dating barmaid Emma Dodd, 28, early in the year but they split in the months before his trial.
He moved on to mum-of-four Blanca Fouche, 31, who stood by him during the hearing – but their relationship ended in October, a month after he was cleared.
Soon after, she said: “I feel totally used. I thought he cared about me.”
Michael and Emma remain pals and spent Christmas together with Michael’s sister and others.

Yawn...couldn't they have thought of something more original? I like Sally and Tim together and would be sad to see them split, as seems inevitable.
If Tim and Sally split what truly would be the point of Tim.
What is the point of him now?
What is the point of him now?
I find Tim quite amusing in an undemanding kind of way. I think his and Sally's relationship works on screen because they're so different, and he brings out Sally's funny side - which is a bonus :D
They are good together and he seems to be getting on well now with Sophie. Funny how he jumped up twice in the Rovers as he kept forgetting the turkey and other duties

I think Tim is a waste of time. I don't know how he has lasted as long as he has on the street with stupid storylines. I thought when he first arrived on the street he would turn out to be a pedophille inn disguse tryinng to groom young Faye but Corrie have just let him become another useless spare part like Sean.

He's a much better actor than Sean. I've seen them both in other things and can confirm that. Tim just needs some decent storylines and more time winding Sally up :D

Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell has returned to the set for the first time.
The actor, who plays Kevin Webster, was suspended from the show while he fought 12 sex offence charges.
Le Vell was found not guilty of all charges in September 2013, and will resume filming after nearly a year away from the programme.
Le Vell said in a statement: "I'm coming back to a job and a family I've loved for the last 30 years.
"I've really missed everyone and it's such a buzz to be working together in the new Coronation Street Production Centre. It's a wonderful place and it feels like new beginnings for all of us.
"I've had the most amazing support from cast, crew and members of the public over the last 12 months and I couldn't have asked for more.
"ITV and Coronation Street have been first class, and I'm really delighted to be back at work doing the job I love."
Producer Stuart Blackburn recently spoke about the actor's return saying: "At the point when Kevin was forced to leave for Germany, he was actually looking to get back together with Sally.
"So when he returns, it's to a very different world in Coronation Street. He comes back to find Sally's relationship with Tim, while his daughter Sophie's world will have changed as well, and in Sally's eyes, not necessarily for the better."
I don't think we will see Ken return.
CLEARED Michael Le Vell has been portrayed as a victim of crime in his Coronation Street comeback.
Michael, found not guilty of sex offences last year, will come face to face with the police again in his first explosive storyline.
But he will be in the role of a victim of a street theft.
The star returned this week after almost a year away fighting to clear his name of the child sex charges.
And scriptwriters have plunged his character, garage mechanic Kevin Webster, into an intriguing plot.
While Michael, 49, was given a warm welcome back, the same cannot be said for his character.
Kevin has to call the police after he is robbed of some important valuables.
In some of his first scenes back on the Manchester-based soap, Kevin is seen telling Rita Tanner how his bags were stolen. Kevin’s long absence is explained by being away looking after his sick dad.
On the show, Kevin tells Rita: “I’ve called the police, they’re going to be here in a bit.”
Rita, played by Barbara Knox, 80, is shocked that he has been the victim of a crime but admits the street been has hit by a “mini-crimewave” while he has been away.
And, in another plotline, she ruffles his feathers when she talks about his love rival Tim Metcalfe, who is living with his ex Sally. She tells him: “I don’t know what’s wrong with people these days, though saying that we have had a mini-crimewave round her recently.
“A builder’s van got broken into, then there were two burglaries on the next street and one at your Sally’s, which I’m sure she’s told you about.
“From what I hear Tim’s hurt but he scared them off.”
Kevin is annoyed by the reference to Tim and coldly replies: “I suppose I’ve got something to thank him for, then.”
Kevin will soon be involved in a love war over Sally, played by Sally Dynevor, 50.
Must be Les Dennis carrying out crimes

I don't think we will see Ken return.
I suppose it will depend on the outcome of the trial. If he's found gulity then it will be the end of Ken Barlow but will the writers just write him out in some lame story like they did when Chris Fountain was sacked from Corrie. Not the way we thought Ken Barlows exit from Corrie would be.

Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell will return to work next week, Digital Spy can confirm.
The actor, who plays Kevin Webster, has been away from the show since March after taking a break for personal reasons.
Digital Spy understands that Le Vell will be back on set next week to film his return scenes as Kevin.
Corrie viewers know that Kevin has once again been away in Germany looking after his father Bill, who had injured himself following a nasty fall. The mechanic was last seen on screen in April.
Le Vell took his break from Coronation Street to seek professional help for personal issues. He and ITV reached the decision mutually after the 49-year-old confessed that he used cocaine twice in 2013 while at "his lowest ebb" over his much-publicised court case.
The long-serving Corrie cast member said that he first took cocaine in the lead-up to his trial, but also used the class A substance again after being found not guilty of all sex abuse charges against him.
Since seeking help, Le Vell has remained a regular fixture on set as he has been learning how to direct by shadowing some of the soap's existing crew.
Writing on his his public Facebook page last month, he said: "I'm so looking forward to getting back to the job I love and all the people there who are like my second family, I love them all. And thank you all for the great support you have given me over some very hard times for me and my family."
I hope he manages to stay on a regular basis as they cannot keep writing him out and then back in.

Coronation Street fans were left shocked after Kevin and Sally shared a kiss recently, and more details have been revealed about how the secret comes out during the upcoming live episode.
Michael Le Vell, who plays Kevin on the show, confirmed that Tim Metcalfe finds out about fiancée Sally's moment of passion when it is spilled by a character "in a drunken stupor".
Speaking on Loose Women from the Coronation Street set today, Le Vell said: "I think that someone spills the beans in a very drunken stupor in the live [episode].
"I don't know what the consequences are going to be but there's something very exciting."
He went on to speak about the upcoming live show, adding: "I think it's more excitement than fear. I've done one before, the last one did go very smoothly.
"I think the last one went so well everybody thought it was pre-recorded!"

Coronation Street's Michael Le Vell has said that he "flagged up" the script mistake revolving around the death of Kevin Webster's baby 15 years ago.
The mistake saw writers forget about the important storyline during an emotional scene between the Webster family.
However, actor Michael Le Vell who plays Kevin Webster, says that he noticed the mistake when he first saw the script.
"I did mention it when I saw the script but it fell on deaf ears at the time. Kevin and Jenny have this bond that could be hopefully used as a story," he revealed to the Daily Mirror.
The erroneous scenes involved Kevin telling his daughter Sophie that it "must be hard burying one of your kids", following the death of her girlfriend Maddie Heath.
Yet in 2000, Kevin and his then-wife Alison's days-old baby died from an infection, the emotional storyline seeing Kevin's wife taking her own life in the aftermath.
The show's producer Stuart Blackburn previously apologised for the error, saying: "I'd like to thank viewers who spotted our mistake.
"Our episodes go through many drafts and are scrutinised by many people, but on this occasion we did make a mistake."
Coronation Street's Michael Le Vell has said that he "flagged up" the script mistake revolving around the death of Kevin Webster's baby 15 years ago.
I'm glad Michael noticed the error because his apparent unawareness didn't put him in a good light. Now it's the production team that look foolish...
He's one of Coronation Street's legendary lotharios, having seduced many a soap siren in his 32-year stint on the cobbles.
And it appears that Kevin Webster is getting over his romantic woes by setting his sights on Nick Tilsley's ex, Erica Holroyd, as the cast filmed scenes on Canal Street, Manchester on Thursday.
Following his latest romantic disaster with former flame Sally, it looks as though Kevin (Michael Le Vell) has used his charms to convince Erica (Claire King) to head out on a date with him.
Changing out of his overalls, Corrie's resident mechanic obviously is out to make an impression on Nick's former girlfriend as he takes her for a romantic evening outside the confines of the street.
Sprucing him up for his date, the wardrobe department kitted Michael's character - who has been a show stalwart for 32 years - out in a grey blazer, navy shirt, denim jeans and a pair of brown shoes.
But while Kevin has spruced his clothes up, the cobbles' Casanova retained his machismo with a short grey beard.
Claire's character, Erica - who was first introduced to the show as a friend of Liz McDonald's - was glammed-up for her romantic liaison, wearing a Cruella de Vil style fur jacket.

Debbie's character, Anna Windass, has also been another character hit with relationship woes; with first husband Eddie running off to Germany before finding love and then bankruptcy with Owen Armstrong.
Laughing and joking in-between takes Debbie and Claire looked in high-spirits, while Michael went to grab a hot drink from a nearby cafe with a member of the production team.
The romantic outing comes only weeks after Kevin nearly scuppered Sally's chance for happiness with window cleaner Ted - having shared a kiss with her.
Meanwhile Erica has been left out in the cold after she lost the baby she was expecting with Nick, and the bistro manager came-clean about his love for Carla Connor.
But with Kevin's checkered history - having cheated on Sally multiple occasions and even fathered a child with his best-friend Tyrone's wife Molly - Erica might be the one to finally tame Kevin's wandering eyes.

After all them years serving in a corner shop Sophie is an up and coming business women. Now looks like Erica will take up the job at the shop. I am sure they do not get a decent wage that would fund Ericas lifestyle. An unlikely figure behind the shop. The producer really desperate to keep her in a job and is pairing her with Kevin...crazy

I dont think she was meant to be "likeable"
in ED. But she played the part well! Imo.
In Corrie just a nonenity -so far!
That probably wont change with recent news.!
Im not sure if we have been threatened with
another return of Jenny Bradley ??

Coronation Street will revisit the possible romantic spark between Kevin Webster and Anna Windass this Christmas.
Fans noticed a chemistry between the pair when they both attended Sally and Tim's wedding at the Bistro a few weeks ago.
The two singletons will be thrown back into each other's orbits over the festive period when they both end up at the same Christmas dinner.
Sally and Tim will decide to invite Kevin, Sophie, Anna and Faye over to their first Christmas as a married couple, but viewers will have to tune in to find out whether Kevin and Anna start to be brought together during the feel-good festivities.
Kevin (Michael Le Vell) has been single since his girlfriend Jenny Bradley suffered a breakdown in the summer, while Anna has also been on her own since Owen Armstrong left the Street.
The plot will be one of many airing on Coronation Street at Christmas. Show bosses have already teased that Tyrone Dobbs and Fiz Stape will be ones to watch as they aim to give unwell Hope her best ever Christmas.
The Platt family will also be heavily involved as they try to put their traumatic year behind them, while Tracy Barlow is expected to be at the centre of the action too with a big storyline linked in with the return of Rob Donovan.

Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell lands new £150,000 deal after beating booze demons
Michael Le Vell will have a very Happy New Year – after landing a new £150,000 Corrie contract and a host of new storylines on the soap.
Michael, who hit the headlines last weekend for being spotted drinking, has better news from Weatherfield where he is now tied up until the end of 2016.
Since returning to the show in September 2014, after a stint in rehab, he has become one of its most hard-working and popular performers.
Last year he appeared in 100 episodes and scriptwriters have been working on a number of exciting new storylines for the soap stalwart.
Bosses are delighted at how he has turned his life around since his well-publicised battle with booze. At one point he admitted downing 12 pints a night.
But he has now been sober for almost two years and despite slipping off the wagon at a New Year party, when he was spotted with a lager, there are no fears he is about to return to his old habits.
A source revealed: “Michael was over-the-moon to be told he would be getting a new deal. No one is ever safe in soaps but the bosses have been impressed with his professionalism in tackling his problems head-on and dealing with them.
“He really does now feel that the worst of his problems are behind him. Sure, he had a drink to toast New Year but there is no way he will return to the bad old days. He knows he has too much to lose.”
Michael, 51, has signed a new 12 month deal that will see him remain on the Weatherfield cobbles until at least the end of the year.
Like most of the big name stars on the show, he is on a rolling contract, which means his future is only secure for a year at a time.
But sources say 2016 will be a busy year on-screen for his character Kevin Webster, who will open a new garage, his ex-Jenny Bradley will return and his relationship with Anna Windass will return.
Michael took time out from Corrie to fight sex abuse allegations in 2013 and after being cleared of all charges he briefly returned to the soap in March 2014.
But he took a second break after admitting cocaine use and sought help for his addictions, before returning in September 2014 and once again made car mechanic Kevin Webster a major character on the Street.
He first appeared in the soap in 1983 and is now ninth in the list of all time appearances in the show.
Top of the pile is Bill Roache, who has been playing Ken Barlow since 1960.
150k a year is not a lot for a key character
Get ready to see another 365 days' worth of Kevin Webster because Michael Le Vell has signed a fresh contract with Coronation Street.
Corrie's resident mechanic has landed a new one-year contract with the soap, according to The Sun.
Kevin Webster first arrived on Coronation Street in 1983 and has largely been in the soap ever since.
Le Vell took a break from the cobbles in 2014 after admitting to taking cocaine and seeking professional help for personal issues, but returned the same year.
The actor also left Coronation Street for almost a year while he fought 12 sex offence charges, but returned to the soap after being found not guilty of all charges in September 2013.
Earlier this summer, Le Vell rubbished claims that the cobbles were in uproar about the move to six episodes a week.
"I was here when we worked every Sunday, so it doesn't faze me at all," he said at the time.
"Joe [Duttine aka Tim Metcalfe] and I are both supportive of the idea. It means storylines will be played out longer, involve more characters and evolve naturally.
"It means more jobs for crew and more actors *coming into the show. Production are also going to be building new sets."

There’s panic in store for Kevin Webster as he gets bad news about his daughter Sophie in Coronation Street. Sophie recently headed to Miami to stay with her sister Rosie, with Brooke Vincent taking a three month break to star in Be My Baby.
But even when she is off screen, she is causing drama on the cobbles as Kevin discovers that she has had to have her appendix removed while in the US and has run up a massive medical bill in the process.
And of course, with Sophie not having the funds to pay this off, it look like it may be down to Kevin to raise the cash.
But will he be able to?

Could Kevin start the fire himself at the garage?
Surely it's normal practice to take out health insurance when travelling? I'm not a traveller myself but many members of my family take regular holidays and health cover is at the top of their to-do list when going away.

That is the first thing that I thought of when I read about that storyline. I have had annual travel insurance for many years and it covers any travel world wide and is around £150 so not that expensive and I know that even booking holidays online there are adverts for health cover
But a young person probably would not think like us. I know a lot of people who do not take insurance and travel. One died out there and the family went broke paying his medical bills before that.

Kevin or Sally should have told her to take it out.
Coronation Street's Anna Windass vows to sue David Platt for her crash injuries next week
Coronation Street's David Platt could be facing a lawsuit next week as Anna Windass and Kevin Webster become desperate for cash.
David (Jack P Shepherd) has never really faced the consequences of causing last year's dramatic road crash on the cobbles, even though it caused carnage on the Street and left Anna badly burned.
Okay, so Kevin did threaten David at the time - but it was hard to take him too seriously when he brandished the world's smallest tool as a warning.
Next week's episodes see everything change for David when Kevin becomes concerned over the financial mess that he's in after the recent fire at the garage.
Seemingly out of options, Kevin tells Anna (Debbie Rush) that they should sue David and go after compensation for her injuries.
Although Anna is uneasy about going down the legal route, she eventually asks Adam Barlow (Samuel Robertson) for his advice on how she'd make a personal injury claim.
Anna worries when she hears that she'd have to photograph her injuries, especially in light of her recent insecurities over how she looks - but she also knows that it may be her only option.
Michael Le Vell, who plays Kevin, revealed: "It's not a cunning plan - Kevin just overhears a conversation in The Rovers and thinks it's what Anna is due. David should have been insured, so his insurance should have paid out for Anna's injury anyway.
"It's not so much Kevin going after David, it's going after what they should have been paid out for a very serious accident, which anyone would expect. It's just going after what's rightfully theirs. It's why people have insurance - for accidents.
"But Anna doesn't want to relive the horrors of it all and she shouldn't have to really, if it's just an insurance claim. She just doesn't want to relive it all in her own head. It was very traumatic what she went through."
While Anna is busy fretting and setting up a meeting with David to discuss the mater, Kevin is surprised to receive an unexpected offer of help.
Does this mean that David is off the hook? Or will Anna and Kevin go ahead and take David for every penny he has?
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, January 30 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
Could Phelan be offering help?
Coronation Street has sparked rumours of another affair storyline by filming some intriguing new scenes out on location.
Michael Le Vell has been pictured by paparazzi photographers while shooting a storyline which sees his character Kevin Webster sneaking off to a hotel.
Kevin seems keen to keep a low profile as he heads inside, hinting that this isn't a trip that he's booked for his current girlfriend Anna Windass.
Erica Holroyd (Claire King) was also spotted going inside, so could she be meeting up with Kevin and will it be the start of a secret romance?

As ever with paparazzi shots, we may only be getting part of the story here – but fans have already speculated about a potential romantic spark between Kevin and Erica.
A few weeks ago, Erica showed her support to Kevin when his card was declined at Dev Alahan's shop and he later returned the favour by offering her a free car valet.
More recently, we've also seen that Kevin is struggling with the lack of intimacy in his relationship with Anna, who's felt insecure about her appearance ever since being badly burned last year.

With Erica also feeling neglected by Dev as he continues to take her for granted, could some fun with Kevin be just what she needs too?

No doubt funded from Anna's £19,000 business donation to him. No sympathy for her I'm afraid, should have had more sense in the first place.

Glad they kept it in and did not edit it out, makes a nice change to see a man falling over instead of the ladies who, when running away from a scary man or situation, inevitably always fall over.. :p
Coronation Street's Kevin Webster is going to risk losing the garage he has owned for over 20 years in an upcoming storyline.
Ray Crosby has already proven to be quite the slimy piece of work but, as reported in The Sun, he is going to get even worse.
Ray's ex (and Kevin's current love interest) Abi is going to get caught on CCTV setting fire to his car, and Ray will decide to use that as leverage: if Kevin doesn't sign over the garage to him, he'll go to the police and get Abi sent back to prison.
Will Kevin decide to save his business or his new love? We'll have to wait to find out.
But Kevin isn't the only Corrie character to be blackmailed lately, as last night's (January 24) episode saw Jade blackmail Fiz over being attacked. Fiz said she would rather go to prison than let Jade see Hope anymore, but time will tell whether Jade actually goes through with her threat.
Meanwhile, Corrie has scheduled an hour-long special to celebrate its 10,000th episode, and it's sure to be a memorable one.

Coronation Street has announced some big new plans for the Webster family in 2025.
The ITV soap will launch a new issue-based storyline in the New Year as long-standing character Kevin is diagnosed with testicular cancer.
Show bosses will also introduce Kevin and Debbie's younger half-brother Carl Webster for the first time.
New producer Kate Brooks shared these plans with Digital Spy and other media at a recent Corrie press event.
Brooks explained: "The Websters are brilliant. Kevin and Sally are at the heart of it ? then you've got Tim and you've got Abi. They're a great character group.
"As we go into the New Year, Kevin will discover that he's got testicular cancer, which causes a massive strain on his relationship. Abi is a really strong character, but she's going through her own turmoil at the same time.
"We want to tell this really truthfully. We've been working closely with Macmillan to make sure that we tell the story right. Ultimately, it's about Kevin and Abi's relationship and testing that relationship."
She continued: "It was really important that we don't show Kevin being embarrassed or being reticent to talk to his friends about it. He's quite open about it, which I thought was quite refreshing.
"Kevin talks to Tim and Steve about it and they all have their own way of handling it. But ultimately it's about his relationship with Abi, and that is going to be truly tested.
"Abi is going through her own situation as she struggles with the aftermath of a big event that happens in January. She loves Kevin and he loves her, but temptation comes Abi's way."
With Corrie planning to focus more on the Websters next year, Kevin and Debbie's sibling Carl will be brought into the show to expand the family.
Carl, who'd now be in his late 30s, is the son of Bill Webster and his second wife Elaine. The character grew up in Germany and has never featured on screen until now.
Brooks added: "We've got Carl Webster coming into the show, who is Debbie and Kevin's brother, to build up that Webster clan.
"We've got big stories coming up for Debbie and Kevin. It's about building that clan up. For me, the Websters, Barlows and Platts are the big clans."
