British actor Michael Sheen is set to sign up to the next James Bond movie - to play legendary villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, according to U.K. reports.

The Queen star is said to be in negotiations with 007 bosses to join Daniel Craig in the 23rd instalment in the superspy franchise, which is slated for release in 2011.

And Sheen will be taking on the role of bad guy Blofeld - the recurring character seen in six Bond films including From Russia with Love, You Only Live Twice and For Your Eyes Only.

The super-villain has been played by actors including late Kojak star Telly Savalas, who appeared in 1969's On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

A source tells British newspaper the Daily Express, "Michael is hot property right now and it's felt he's the right man to bring Blofeld back to life. Michael was a Bond fan in his youth so this would be a dream role for him."

Megan Fox turned down the chance to play a Bond girl opposite Daniel Craig in the next instalment of the 007 franchise, according to reports.

The Transformers beauty was reportedly lined up to star as James Bond's conquest in the 23rd superspy film.

But the 23 year old refused the offer because she wanted to have a bigger part in the film than simply playing the secret agent's love interest, according to Britain's Daily Star newspaper.

A source tells the publication, "She'd rather be a more central part of the movie."

Megan Fox has slammed reports she turned down an offer to star in the upcoming James Bond film, insisting she's a huge fan of the action franchise.

The Transformers beauty was said to have refused the chance to star alongside Daniel Craig in the 23rd superspy film because she wanted to play more than just the superspy's love interest.

But the 23 year old has branded the report as false - telling fans she has never even discussed the role with film bosses.

A spokesperson for Fox says the reports are “completely not true. There has been no discussions nor any offer. Megan is a fan of the Bond movies."

James Bond producer Michael G. Wilson has revealed that production on the new 007 movie is "up in the air" while studio MGM is up for sale.

The 23rd film outing for the British spy is expected to begin shooting at the end of this year, but Wilson suggested that he and fellow producer Barbara Broccoli will have to wait until MGM's sale before they move forward with Daniel Craig's third Bond movie.

"Our timeline's a little up in the air what with the situation at MGM, so we have to be flexible," website MI6 quotes Wilson as saying. "We just don't know enough about the situation to comment, but we know it's uncertain."

He added of the movie's current status: "We've hired the writers and we've been working with them but it's just too early to say anything. You know, often at this stage, I find myself saying, 'Oh, we're gonna do this and that', then six months from now you'll say, 'That isn't in the film at all - you told me it was...'

"I think we're at the stage where a lot of ideas are floating around that sound very good, but whether they make the final cut, who knows?

It's Mendes. Sam Mendes.

The British helmer is in negotiations to direct the 23rd installment of the venerable James Bond franchise.

Production is being fast-tracked and could begin as early as June with an eye toward a 2011 release. Plans for the film are moving forward despite a possible sale of MGM. Sony co-produced and distributed the most recent installment of the 007 series with MGM.

Bond regulars Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are writing, along with "Frost/Nixon" scribe Peter Morgan. Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are producing. Daniel Craig will reprise his role as 007.

Freida Pinto is reportedly set to become the next Bond girl under the helm of Sam Mendes.

The Slumdog Millionaire star stands to make £3 million for the 007 role, which The Mirror reports will be set in Afghanistan.

House actress Olivia Wilde is also in negotiations for the film, which will see Daniel Craig back in character for his third outing as the iconic British agent.

A source said that Mendes, who recently announced his split from Kate Winslet, has been talking about the movie for some time.

"The project has been in the pipeline for months and Freida was always the dream Bond girl, but initially she was nervous about accepting it. This is going to be the most ambitious 007 yet. Sam plans to reinvent the genre," a souce told the paper.

Writer Peter Morgan, who was behind The Queen, has written the script. Production is due to get underway this simmer and filming will take place at Buckinghamshire's Pinewood studios and on location in the Afghan capital Kabul.

Lady Gaga is rumoured to be in the running to write the next James Bond theme song.

Sam Mendes is directing the currently untitled 23rd Bond movie, starring Daniel Craig as 007, and The Sun claims Gaga is top of studio bosses list to pen and perform the title track.

A source said: "Bond bosses are all huge Gaga fans, her sound and sense of drama make her the top choice - Gaga has the look as well as the voice to tackle a thundering ballad. She's a great songwriter too. This is perfect on every level."

Also reportedly in the running are Amy Winehouse, who was lined up to write the theme for Quantum Of Solace, but after personal troubles got in the way, the gig went to Jack White and Alicia Keys.

Michael Buble is apparently submitting a demo too.

The next James Bond instalment has reportedly been put on hold for an indefinite period of time by MGM.

The studio was apparently forced to postpone the release, tentatively called Bond 23, due to its ongoing financial troubles.

EON Productions executives Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced the delay in a statement released to Variety.

"Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on Bond 23 indefinitely," the two explained.

"We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of Bond 23."

Earlier this month, MGM dismissed rumours that screenwriter Peter Morgan had quit the Sam Mendes-directed project. In October, star Daniel Craig claimed that the picture would start shooting at the end of this year.

The next James Bond sequel, tentatively titled Bond 23, has been put on hold due to MGM’s financial troubles, according to Variety. EON Productions heads Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced Monday that the next Daniel Craig 007 installment was facing a foe as nasty as Dr. No or Scaramanga: cash woes. “Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on Bond 23 indefinitely,” the pair said in a statement. “We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of Bond 23.” The project did not yet have a director attached, but a trio of writers had reportedly been working on a script and Craig had informed fans last fall that the film would start shooting late this year. MGM has been in the process of sorting out its future with its debt holders. MGM put itself up for sale in November. The studio’s only release this year, Hot Tub Time Machine, has grossed $42.4 million to date.

William Hill has started to take bets on Daniel Craig's James Bond replacement following news that the 23rd 007 movie has been postponed indefinitely.

Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced yesterday that they have ceased work on the untitled action film until financially stricken studio MGM resolves its future.

The move has prompted speculation that Craig, who portrayed the MI6 spy in Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace, could leave the role. A similar enforced delay in Bond films, between 1989's License To Kill and 1995's GoldenEye, prompted Timothy Dalton to quit the part and be replaced by Pierce Brosnan.

Bookmakers William Hill have installed Avatar's Sam Worthington as the 5/2 favourite to land the role, with Will Smith and Christian Bale both 7/1 to be the next actor to portray the secret agent. Ewan McGregor (25/1), Jude Law, Robert Pattinson (both 33/1) and Tom Cruise (50/1) also have odds listed.

Worthington previously auditioned for Casino Royale but lost out on the role to Craig.

Daniel Craig has admitted that he is eager to star in the next James Bond film.

The actor, who played Bond in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, said that he is trying to get the producers to hurry up so that he can play the lead as soon as possible.

Holly Scoop quotes Craig as saying: "The new Bond movie is on hold but I am chomping at the bit to get going on it as quickly as possible.

"I love playing Bond - I don’t want to be away from it for too long."

It was reported last month that the new Bond movie will go into production soon.

Daniel Craig could return as 007 as soon as next summer, following reports the latest James Bond film is back on track.

Sam Mendes has pulled out of negotiations to direct futuristic thriller The Hunger Games because MGM are ready to move forward with production on Bond 23, and shooting could begin by late summer or early autumn 2011, Deadline Hollywood reports.

The latest instalment from the top British spy was due to begin shooting this year, for release in 2011, directed by Sam and with Daniel returning as 007 for the third time. But the movie was put on indefinite hold, with EON Productions blaming the financial difficulties of MGM studios, which is reported to have a 3.7 billion-dollar (£2.4 billion) debt.

MGM announced this week that its lenders have agreed to extend the company's debt repayment period until October 29, 2010.

"The lenders took this action in support of the company's ongoing efforts to evaluate long-term strategic alternatives to maximize value for its stakeholders. MGM appreciates the continued support of its lender group throughout this process," it said.

The studio, which also has a stake in the forthcoming Hobbit movie, is going through a pre-packaged bankruptcy before Spyglass takes over.

WHEN it comes to major movie companies, You Only Live Twice.
The 23rd James Bond movie is back on track after struggling studio MGM filed for bankruptcy to clear its rumoured £2.5billion debts.
Plans to press ahead with the movie, with a November 2012 release, have been revived - and the company vowed to release a new 007 film every two years.
The report into MGM's finances also stated that it would own half the rights to the new film, bringing in a partner to boost the coffers, but hoped to regain full ownership of future Bond films.
Director SAM MENDES, who jumped ship when the production hit the buffers, is said to be back on board, but star DANIEL CRAIG is still in doubt.
While he is determined to return to the role, the new schedule could clash with filming of the The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo trilogy, which he is set to star in.

Today’s announcement that the long-delayed 23rd installment of the 007 franchise was finally gearing up for production — with a release date of Nov. 9, 2012 — was the narrowest escape Bond has had since Goldfinger almost circumcised him with a laser beam. Last April, money troubles at debt-hobbled MGM forced Bond’s producers to suspend the film’s pre-production “indefinitely,” which triggered an avalanche of speculation. Would Bond ever return? Or would the most successful action series in motion picture history be tangled up for years in lawsuits and bankruptcy proceedings?

In the end, MGM made a deal with Spyglass Entertainment that saved Bond not a moment too soon. Since the suspension, Daniel Craig has been filling up his date book with lots of other projects, like Cowboys and Aliens and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Squeezing a six-month Bond shoot into his schedule was only going to get more and more difficult. Sam Mendes is still slated to direct, but Peter Morgan, who was writing the script for Bond 23 before the suspension, has apparently been replaced by John Logan, the ex-playwright who penned the screenplays for The Last Samurai and The Aviator.

Javier Bardem has reportedly been offered a role in the highly anticipated Bond 23 film.

According to Deadline, there are no details about the nature of Bardem's character, but it is believed that the actor is likely to play a villain.

Bardem, who recently received an Oscar nomination for his work in Biutiful, has yet to accept the offer for Bond 23. He has also received an offer to star in the adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower, another role that he has yet to accept.

Little is known about the upcoming James Bond movie, although it has been confirmed that Daniel Craig will reprise his role as the British 007 agent and that Sam Mendes (American Beauty) will direct.

Bond 23 is scheduled to open in cinemas on November 9, 2012.

Sir Anthony Hopkins is reportedly close to signing up to star in the latest James Bond movie.

According to The Sun, the Oscar-winning Silence Of The Lambs actor is in discussions about playing 007's nemesis in the spy series' 23rd instalment. Insiders have likened the part to recurring villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld from the early Bond pictures.

"The only stumbling block seems to be the number of films he is signing up for," a source said. "There is a chance the character they want him to play could become a regular feature, like Blofeld back in the day."

Hopkins recently appeared in horror movie The Rite and can next be seen as Odin in Marvel adaptation Thor.

Daniel Craig and Judi Dench will return for the untitled Bond adventure, while Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes are allegedly circling roles in director Sam Mendes's film.

The James Bond film series' 23rd instalment will be released on October 26, 2012.

Sony Pictures UK confirmed the UK cinema release date on its official Twitter account on Thursday.

Bond 23 - the working title for the project - had already been announced as debuting in the US on November 9, 2012.

Plans for Bond 23 were reportedly put on hold last year as MGM faced a financial crisis, but were revived once the company emerged from bankruptcy in November 2010.

Judi Dench disclosed earlier this year that she is to reprise her role as M for the upcoming movie, but stayed tight-lipped on the film's storyline, saying: "I can't tell you anything at all!"

Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes is to helm the film and Daniel Craig will return as 007, while Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will produce.

Sir Anthony Hopkins and Javier Bardem have both been linked to roles in Bond 23.

Rhys Ifans will be joining Daniel Craig in the next big screen outing for James Bond.

Though the specific details of Bond 23 are remaining characteristically hush-hush, The Telegraph confirms that Ifans has joined the film’s ever-expanding cast.

Ifans recently wrapped The Amazing Spider-Man (above), in which he played the villainous Lizard - but it’s not thought that he’ll be brooding away as another villain in Bond 23.

That’s mostly because Javier Bardem has already been recruited as the film’s central baddie.

Ralph Fiennes is also onboard for Craig’s third round in the tux, reportedly playing a “complex” character. Meanwhile, Judi Dench is returning as M, and Naomie Harris will play Miss Moneypenny.

Despite wallowing in pre-production misery thanks to MGM's financial problems, Bond 23 is definitely bouncing back with a vengeance - we can't wait to see that formidable cast in action.

Bond 23 is being directed by Sam Mendes, and opens 9 November 2012.

THE name of the new James Bond film can finally be revealed… and it’s SkyFall.

Sony Pictures and MGM have registered a series of website names including “JamesBond-Skyfall.com” and *“SkyfallTheFilm.com”.

Up until now the movie has been known as “Bond 23”. But recently 007 actor Daniel Craig hinted that bosses had made a decision.

Producers have yet to *officially announce the title for the movie, which has hit the skids in India due to a legal wrangle over its use of the railway network there.

Bosses are now considering a move to South Africa.

The row has been the latest delay for the project, which was hit with problems when studio MGM filed for *bankruptcy last year before a last-minute rescue deal.

British actor Ben Whishaw has been cast as Q in the new Bond film Skyfall, his agent has confirmed.

The role of 007's gadget designer was played by Desmond Llewelyn in From Russia With Love and most recently by John Cleese, opposite Pierce Brosnan, in 2002's Die Another Day.

At the age of 31, Whishaw is 12 years younger than Bond actor Daniel Craig, a first for the Q character.

Whishaw recently starred in the BBC's 1950s news drama The Hour.

He is due to play Richard II in a new BBC Shakespeare adaptation which is part of next year's cultural programming to coincide with the Olympics.

The actor played Ariel in Julie Taymor's recent film adaptation of The Tempest opposite Dame Helen Mirren.

His other credits include Criminal Justice, Brideshead Revisited and the literary big screen adaptation of Perfume.

Q is the head of Branch Q, the fictional armoury division of the secret service. He appeared briefly in the first Bond film Dr No in 1962 under his real name Major Boothroyd, played by actor Peter Burton.

Desmond Llewelyn's final Bond film was The World Is Not Enough

His next appearance was in 1963 in From Russia With Love, played by Welsh actor Llewelyn, who played the role in every subsequent Bond film, except Live And Let Die, until his death in 1999.

The character returned just once in 2002, played by former Python Cleese.

As well as Craig returning as 007 in his third outing, British actors Naomie Harris and Albert Finney will join him in the 23rd Bond film, due out next year.

Oscar-winning Spanish actor Javier Bardem has been cast as Skyfall's main villain.

DAME Judi Dench has reportedly filmed her final scene in the Bond franchise – with her iconic character M being killed off.

An insider on the set of the 23rd 007 movie Skyfall has told movie website Best For Film: “We’ve just filmed M’s death scene.

"Judi Dench is leaving the franchise.”

The veteran actress has played spy boss M in eight films in the series, her first in Goldeneye in 1995 opposite Pierce Brosnan.

She has also voiced the character in a string of video games.

It's possible multiple endings for M are being filmed, but given recent news that Judi is leavind the franchise it makes sense.

It's been previously revealed M's character was be succeeded by Ralph Fiennes after she steps down.
Earlier this week fans were left shaken, not stirred when it was announced that another iconic Bond was being waved off.

In Skyfall, Daniel Craig will be seen swigging a Dutch lager instead of his tradition martini.

The move is part of an advertising deal with brewers Heineken.

Skyfall, which is directed by Sam Mendes, will hit cinemas in October.

The film's distributors Sony Pictures declined to comment.

A clip of Adele's James Bond theme 'Skyfall' has surfaced online.

The singer confirmed earlier today (October 1) that the song - the soundtrack to the 23rd Bond film of the same name - will premiere in full at 00.07am (UK time) on Friday, October 5.

The track was written by Adele with producer Paul Epworth and is available to pre-order now on iTunes.

Lyrics of the song include: "Let the sky fall/ Let it crumble/ We will stand tall/And face it all/ together."

Adele said: "I was a little hesitant at first to be involved with the theme song for Skyfall."

"There's a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song. But I fell in love with the script and Paul had some great ideas for the track and it ended up being a bit of a no brainer to do it in the end."

She added: "It was also a lot of fun writing to a brief, something I've never done which made it exciting. When we recorded the strings, it was one of the proudest moments of my life.

"I'll be back combing my hair when I'm 60 telling people I was a Bond girl back in the day I'm sure."

One Republic frontman Ryan Tedder previously called the theme the "best Bond song in my lifetime" and said that it should win an Oscar.
