The teenager who attacked Coronation Street actor Mikey North over the Easter holidays has avoided a custodial sentence.
Stuart Stocks, a 19-year-old coachbuilder, launched an unprovoked attack on the 22-year-old actor - who plays Weatherfield's Gary Windass - in his hometown of Scarborough over the Easter holidays in April.
The assault, which took place as North returned home from a night out with his girlfriend Lauren Flinton, left him unconscious on the pavement with a double-fractured jaw and two black eyes.
Magistrates today heard that as Stocks followed North and Flinton, a "red mist" descended, before he knocked North to the ground.
The actor was later taken to the local hospital for treatment, where he had three metal plates and four pins inserted to repair the facial damage.
Stocks, who of Elm Grove, Sherburn, has been handed a 12-month community order comprising 300 hours' unpaid work and a three-month curfew between the hours of 7pm and 6am. He was also ordered to pay £2,500 compensation plus costs to the victim.
