Mark (Maxwell Caulfield) and Natasha (Amanda Donohoe) arrive back from Scotland and Mark receives a multitude of missed calls from Faye (Kim Thomson). He confronts her over the phone and she demands a meeting which he bluntly refuses to attend. As she puts the phone down, Faye’s son Ryan (James Sutton) comes out of the shower, having arrived to stay with his mum after losing his job. He poses questions about the Mark she was speaking to but Faye brushes him off as an old friend. Will Ryan accept this explanation?

Also, Mark and Natasha decide to give Nathan (Lyndon Ogbourne) and Maisie (Alice Coulthard) space to live their own lives. Natasha begins to regret her decision when she finds Cain (Jeff Hordley) chatting up Maisie in the Woolpack but Mark stops her from interfering. However, when Cain makes not so subtle inferences about his own weekend spent with Maisie Mark has had enough. He follows Cain outside and warns him to stay away. Cain isn’t interested but when he tries to walk away Mark punches him. When Jimmy (Nick Miles) stops Mark from doing anything more Cain delivers a threat that he’ll get his revenge in a much more destructive manner. What does Cain have in mind?

Meanwhile, Debbie (Charley Webb) is narked when Carl (Tom Lister) withdraws his business from the garage. Cain tells her to forget about an unpaid bill as they’ve won the war with the Kings. She takes her dad’s advice and looks to building a successful future instead.

PI for the rest of the week follows:

Tuesday 16 June 7pm

Mark (Maxwell Caulfield) defends his attack on Cain (Jeff Hordley) to Maisie (Alice Coulthard) but is secretly worried about the threat Cain made to him. Meanwhile, Faye (Kim Thomson) prepares to meet Mark and Ryan (James Sutton) continues to pry into the identity of his mother’s suitor. Faye drives to the village and Mark is furious with her lack of discretion. She coerces him into following her back to the flat. Mark is in no mood for small talk and tells Faye that her pursuit of him makes him feel sick. As he’s about to leave Faye panics and explains she invited him so he could meet their son. Mark denounces her claims but when Faye shows him some baby photos Mark realises he can’t argue against the genetics. Mark decides he can’t go through with the meeting and prepares to leave. However, Ryan arrives back at the flat and Mark struggles to retain his composure as Faye introduces him as her ‘friend’. Ryan offers to buy Mark a drink so he can vet his mum’s new ‘boyfriend’ and Mark can’t refuse in spite of himself. Ryan is impressed with Mark and the feeling is reciprocated and when Faye comes to check on them she senses a blossoming connection. However, her dreams are shattered when Mark defiantly states they can never tell Ryan the truth. Returning to the village, Mark is confronted by Cain who asks for a bribe to keep quiet about his continued meetings with Faye. Will Mark cave in to Cain’s demands?

Meanwhile, Jimmy (Nick Miles) is heartbroken when Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) tells him she’s putting the baby up for adoption. Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) urges Nicola not to push Jimmy away and can’t believe what Nicola has decided to do. Jimmy is deeply depressed and though his family try to raise his spirits Jimmy argues that he just wants to be a father. Realising Jimmy is genuinely hurt Lexi (Sally Oliver) talks to Nicola and suggests she shouldn’t use her baby in a petty squabble. Lexi expresses her envy that Nicola has got everything she would wish for herself and her words begin to break through Nicola’s guard. She visits Laurel later and after much deliberation decides to keep the baby. Will she allow Jimmy a role in the child’s life?

Elsewhere, Katie (Sammy Winward) is pleased to receive some useful business contacts from Nathan (Lyndon Ogbourne) and agrees to take him out for a horse ride. Nathan takes her on a carefully planned and orchestrated route which culminates in him leading her to a special picnic. Katie is genuinely surprised and agrees to join him for lunch. Lee (Lewis Linford) watches in frustration from a distance, having been purposefully told by Nathan to work in that area of the grounds. Nathan seemingly opens up to Katie and announces his intention to stop playing up to his arrogant image. Katie is slowly won over when Nathan says he wants to try and be more than friends. She kisses him and invites him back to her place. Lee stumbles in and finds the two of them post-coital, much to Nathan’s delight. Has Nathan won the battle for Katie’s heart?

Wednesday 17 June 7pm

Jimmy (Nick Miles) is in a constant state of stress with no new ideas about how to approach his faltering relationship with Nicola (Nicola Wheeler). Lexi (Sally Oliver) discovers that Nicola has no intention of building bridges with him and teams up with Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) to think of a solution. When a plan to engineer a chance meeting in the pub fails, Lexi and Laurel tell the warring pair to sort their problems out at Mill cottage. Jimmy demands to have a part in the baby’s upbringing so Nicola hands him some receipts so he can reimburse her for baby clothes. Jimmy warns Nicola that he won’t be used as a cash machine but she stands her ground. After throwing him out Nicola resolves that she’s done with Jimmy for good.

Meanwhile, Mark (Maxwell Caulfield) and Natasha (Amanda Donohoe) are disturbed to witness Maisie (Alice Coulthard) kiss Cain (Jeff Hordley) in the Woolpack. Mark simmers aware it is out of his hands and excuses himself. He meets Cain in the toilets and agrees to give him a one off payment to keep quiet about Faye. Cain refuses the cash and states that he wants much more. Mark doubles his offer and Cain accepts, though Mark warns him it’s the only time he’ll bribe him successfully. Natasha interrupts their conversation and Mark lies that it is compensation over the assault to stop him going to the police. Natasha is furious as it looks like they’re paying him to see Maisie. Will Mark’s pay-off be enough to stop Cain?

Elsewhere, Nathan (Lyndon Ogbourne) revels in making Lee (Lewis Linford) feel uncomfortable after spending the night at Katie’s (Sammy Winward). When Katie apologises to Lee he’s surprised to realise she’s still unsure whether to trust Nathan. After Nathan tries to interfere with his work Lee decides to let on that Katie is suspicious of him. Nathan sacks Lee for winding him up, but instead of capitulating Lee is defiant and tells Nathan that this time he won’t be crawling for his job back. Katie is shocked to find out what Nathan has done but when she tries to call him for an explanation he cuts her off. Will Nathan be able to convince Katie that he’s a good guy?

Thursday 18 June 7pm

Jimmy (Nick Miles) finds out that Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) has gone for a scan alone and decides to follow her. Nicola is distinctly unimpressed by his unwanted appearance but Jimmy defiantly refuses to leave. Jimmy tries to make small talk while they wait but he comes perilously close losing a limb when he questions whether Nicola’s bad mood is down to her hormones. Their disagreements continue in the examination room and the sonographer throws them out until they stop arguing. They eventually calm down and the scan goes ahead. Nicola notices Jimmy’s emotion when shown a picture of their baby and her feelings are confused. After a scan, Nicola and Jimmy realise they still have feelings for each other and reunite with a kiss. Can Nicola and Jimmy play happy families after all?

Also, Katie (Sammy Winward) is annoyed with Lee’s (Lewis Linford) stubbornness when he refuses to let her talk to Nathan (Lyndon Ogbourne) about the job. Katie complains to Nathan about being caught in the middle of his squabble with Lee but they are soon arguing. When Katie finds out that Lee used their private conversation to wind up Nathan she confronts him with it and Lee can’t deny what he’s done. Sick of their games, Katie tells Nathan their fling is over and furiously tells Lee to move out. Will either try and win Katie back?

At Home Farm, Natasha (Amanda Donohoe) still has a bee in her bonnet about Mark’s (Maxwell Caulfield) payment to Cain (Jeff Hordley). Mark hands Cain the money and tells him that he isn’t to come near any of the other Wyldes. Cain refuses and Mark is unable to force the issue any further. Later, Mark and Natasha are furious when a cocky Cain arrives to take Maisie (Alice Coulthard) out. It’s clear that he’s using the money to pay for a lavish night out, but Mark urges Natasha not to air their dirty laundry in front of Maisie. Natasha is confused when Mark seems content to let Cain walk all over them. Will she sense that there’s more to it?

Maisie (Alice Coulthard) accidentally opens Mark’s (Maxwell Caulfield) post and Natasha (Amanda Donohoe) is shocked to find out about the flat Mark has bought. Mark asserts that it is just an investment and Natasha is puzzled. Cain (Jeff Hordley) is intrigued when Maisie tells him about the flat Mark has bought and been keeping secret. Cain makes a passing comment to Mark and rattles him with his knowledge of the flat. Later, Natasha calls Mark’s bluff by asking to see the flat. He masks his deep unease but agrees to take her. How will Mark keep his dark secret from his wife?

Meanwhile, Ryan (James Sutton) pays Mark a visit and demands that he stop messing his mother around. Mark is shocked to discover that Ryan knows he’s married and his wife’s name. Ryan doesn’t listen when Mark protests that Faye (Kim Thomson) is the one who won’t leave him alone. Ryan tells him to end it with her face-to-face and warns him to make sure she gets the message. Mark promises him he’ll do it before they are interrupted by Natasha. Ryan goes home and tells his mum what he’s done. Faye is relieved that Mark didn’t tell Ryan the truth and asks her son not to visit him again. Can Ryan stay away from Mark?

James Sutton fans have been waiting for this moment for months, so I'll keep you in suspense no longer. Here are the first pictures of James in his new Emmerdale role Ryan Lamb - in a towel.

Ryan turns up at his mother Faye's (Kim Thomson) flat to stay after losing his previous job. It's not long before Mark (Maxwell Caulfield) comes face to face with the son he never knew he had. Ryan, however, knows nothing of his connection to Mark. Give it time, though. Secrets like this don't stay hidden away for long.

The fact Mark is his father isn't his main storyline. There's something "a lot darker" in the pipeline.

These scenes air on Monday, June 15 at 7pm on ITV1.
