David (Jack Shepherd) keeps vigil by Ted’s (Michael Byrne) bedside, but only just manages to keep the smirk from his face as Joe (Reece Dinsdale) discusses Gary’s (Mikey North) potential sentence. By the time Gary arrives home, he has already sorted out his alibi, telling Anna (Debbie Rush) that he was drinking with Len (Conor Ryan) all night. Anna starts to relax a bit until she bumps into Joe who tells Anna and Eddie (Steve Huison) in no uncertain terms that he blames Gary for putting a defenceless elderly man in hospital. Unbeknown to Gary, Ted recognised him and has already pointed the police in his direction, much to David’s delight. David can hardly contain his excitement when the police turn up at the Windass’ to arrest Gary, but Graeme (Craig Gazey) is worried that Gary might drag them both down with him.

Steve (Simon Gregson) manages to persuade Betty (Betty Driver) to come back to the Rovers, but the bickering behind the bar continues as Poppy (Sophiya Haque) tries to assert her authority as Manageress.

After attending his AA meeting, Ken (William Roache) and Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) are relieved when Peter (Chris Gascoyne) finally admits that he has a problem with alcohol, and is ready to make changes. Will he really go through with it?

Pam and Bill make an agreement to go out with the dates they both met at the singles night providing they go together. Will there be any sparks?

Monday 8 June 8.30pm

Anna (Debbie Rush) and Eddie (Steve Huison) are worried about Gary (Mikey North) and, despite the police letting him go for the time being, Anna knows she has to talk to Ted and apologise for what happened. She is relieved when Ted (Michael Byrne) tells her that Gary didn't attack him - he was merely trying to escape and bumped into him. This is some comfort to Anna but the fact remains that Gary was breaking into the house and is facing prison.

David (Jack Shepherd) meanwhile is enjoying the attention that Ted's heart attack is bringing to him especially when Tina (Michelle Keegan) seeks him out to chat about what happened. But Gary is not going to take this lying down and makes it clear to David that when he gets out of prison he will make him pay for setting him up.

Joe's (Reece Dinsdale) back is continuing to cause him problems and the situation isn't helped by the fact that David hid his pills. But seeing how much pain Joe is really in David puts the tablets back where he found them. Meanwhile Joe goes to the doctors for a repeat prescription but panics when the doc tells him this is the last prescription he'll give him.

At the Rovers, Poppy (Sophya Haque) continues to wind everyone up and with Betty still refusing to come into work Becky (Katherine Kelly) and Steve (Simon Gregson) know something has to be done about the situation. When Poppy oversteps the mark once more Sean tells her that Steve is going to sack her - but it is clear that Poppy doesn't take rejection well.

Elsewhere Pam (Kate Anthony) and Bill (Peter Armitge) have a disastrous double date with Vanessa (Gabrielle Drake) and Gilbert (John Owens) leaving Bill wondering if they would just have been better going on a date with each other - does Pam agree?

Wednesday 10 June 7.15pm

Anna (Debbie Rush) and Eddie (Steve Huison) sit down with Gary (Mikey North) and demand the truth. He finally admits that he did break into Audrey's but that he had no idea that it was her house and that David (Jack P Shepherd) set him up. Stunned Anna and Eddie insist that he go to the police and tell them what he has just told them. Meanwhile David is struggling getting hold of Audrey's keys so that he can put all the pictures back up on the wall and panics when he discovers from Joe (Reece Dinsdale) that Audrey (Sue Nicholls) and Gail (Helen Worth) are home early and on their way back from the airport. Desperate to cover his tracks he hot foots it to Grasmere Drive but Audrey and Gail arrive at the same time. Will David have time to get the house back to normal before Audrey gets suspicious?

Maria (Samia Smith) panics when she starts to get contractions and the only person she can find to run her to hospital is Kirk (Andrew Whyment). Seeing the state she is in Sally (Sally Whittaker) steps in and saves the day but once at the hospital it is clear it is a false alarm. The hospital agree to keep her in as a precaution but Maria is starting to realise how difficult this is all going to be on her own.

Meanwhile over at Underworld Tony (Gray O’Brien) and Luke (Craig Kelly) are feeling the pressure as both Kelly (Tupele Dorgu) and Rosie (Helen Flanagan) get electric shocks from one of the machines. With finances stretched Tony asks Luke if he has any bright ideas about where to find the money to get the machines serviced.

Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) is upset when John returns her letter with a note attached asking her not to contact him again and Chesney (Sam Aston) is hot helping the situation by continuing to give her the cold shoulder.

Friday 12 June 7.30pm

David (Jack P Shepherd) is rattled by Gary's (Mikey North) confession and he and Graeme (Craig Gazey) wonder what it will mean for them. David is cheered up when Tina (Michelle Keegan) pops in with a card for Ted and says she will meet him for a drink later. But Gary is not going to let this drop and makes sure that Audrey (Sue Nicholls) hears his side of the story. Knowing David of old, Audrey is immediately suspicious and heads for the Platts’ house where she demands that David tells them all the truth.

Luke (Craig Kelly) is all for giving the factory a refurb until Tony (Gray O’Brien) shows him their VAT projection and he realises just how bad things are. There is little time for Tony to dwell on their financial problems however when he hears about Maria's (Samia Smith) false alarm and trip to hospital. As she arrives home he pays her a visit and tells her that he is going to be on call round the clock until the baby is born.

Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) is upset when she gets a call from John’s probation officer telling her that John is suffering from clinical depression. Deeply concerned about John and with no one to turn to Fiz pours her heart out to a sympathetic Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh)

As Tina (Michelle Keegan) arrives the accusations really start top fly and eventually David’s tongue trips him up and it becomes clear to them all that he guilty. As Gail (Helen Worth) and Audrey take in the news and try to decide what to do David is more concerned with speaking to Tina who has stormed out of the house in disgust – has David finally overstepped the mark?

Worried about John’s state of mind, Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) sets about trying to cheer him up and packages up some books and a card to send him. When Sally (Sally Whittaker) realises what she is up to though she secretly gets hold of the parcel and tampers with the books – tearing out the last pages. It’s too late for Fiz to do anything about it though as she doesn’t find the torn out pages until after she has posted the parcel and, furious that this will tip John over edge she launches herself at a smug Sally and the pair have to be pulled apart by Sean (Antony Cotton).

Maria (Samia Smith) quizzes Tony (Gray O’Brien) about his suggestion that he stay at the house and when she realises that he was serious she gratefully takes him up on his offer.

Norris (Malcom Hebden) returns home from work and is furious to discover Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) and Rita (Barbara Knox) entertaining Ramsey (Andrew Sachs) over tea and cake. He makes it very clear that’s not happy and an uncomfortable Ramsey makes his excuses and leaves.

Meanwhile, over on Coronation Street, Poppy's (Sophiya Haque) still causing havoc at The Rovers in the wake of her decision to sack Betty (Betty Driver). The bickering behind the bar continues until Becky (Katherine Kelly) and Steve (Simon Gregson) decide to step in.

However, Poppy oversteps the line for the final time when she gives Steve a verbal dressing down, prompting Steve to sack her and Becky to drag her out by her hair through the back door.

I have to say, despite recent reports that Rovers manageress Poppy had "reached the end of her set storyline", there's something quite sudden about her exit. In my eyes, she was only just warming up as a strong presence behind the bar, and the potential for her to evolve into a regular character has really been wasted.
